    Good Morning!

My goal is to lose 100 lbs this year. My mini goal for the challenge is to lose 60 by July 1st. So you can use whatever # you need to for the challenge.

Other goals include drinking 96 oz of water daily
    Exercising 30 a minutes a day
At least 10K daily on pedometer
Take a vitamin (I've never taken vitamins....hate pills
    Posting on the board daily
Posting my menu periodically to make sure I'm eating okay
Weighing only once a week and same with measurements
    SUPPORTING MY TEAM

As soon as we are told what body parts we are to measure then I will do my measurements and set a goal for measurements.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I found this list on the Exercise Challenge post. I assume all teams will need to use the same list but here is one to start with. I also measure my neck which isn't on the list.

The areas of measurements will be the same:

      Measurements needed are:
      o Weight
o Under your arms (around your chest above the breasts)
o Fullest part of your bust
o Ribcage (around your chest below the breasts)
      o Waist
      o Hips
      o Left Upper Arm
      o Right Upper Arm
      o Left Thigh
      o Right Thigh

I keep trying to tell you this challenge isn't about measurements here is the challenge form Pammie's post
so this is what we are going to do. As each newbie joins the board, he or she is going to be assigned a team. This team will consist of 3-4 regular members of the Century Club. Your job is to encourage the newbie, support him or her, and help in anyway you can.

and than at the end of 6 months...say July 1st. we have a count. The team with the most "newbies" still on atkins and still active at the board will be a winner! Also, one more competition, we cannot forget that weightloss is our main goal here, so the team who has lost the most, and this will include ALL team members, not just the newbies. will also be winners!
As you can see this isn't about measurements it is about staying on Atkins and being Atkins successes :joy :icondance :joy :icondance

Measurements of motivation are what we need and ways to improve folks motivation to continue doing Atkins. Can you think of any?

Right now you are a very excited newbie but in a few weeks when you pounds slow down and stop you are going to be a very frustrated Atkins newbie and wondering if your Atkins will keep working for you. Or why you should stay on it when the scale isn't moving. that is why we say make friends with your tape measure you you can validate your success when the metal monster isn't moving. So please do measure for your personel use but please don't require any one to have to share their measurements with anyone as part of our challenge because there are many board members here who don't join the exercise challenge and one of the reasons is the posting of measurements. There are some very sucessful Atkineers here who don't use a scale or a tapemeasure they use the way their clothes fit to tell they are losing cause they don't want to know how big they really are.

In Pammie's Sticky post for the Newbie Challenge (bottom of page 1), she does ask that we take measurements. She's just keeping them very simple:
          • fullest part of bust
            waist
            hips

          Just an FYI.

I'm not planning to post actual numbers, but I'll be happy to post the total number of inches lost.

BTW, I like the Notsofatso (did I get that right??) name!

oh man I hate when they change the rules after we sign up for something :no

okay sorry sneal717 there you go you need those 3 measurements. fullest part of bust
              waist
              hips

Okay then unless Fr1endly2 and Ragtime Gal (Pammie miss tyed their names, LOL I know y'all thought it was me) have a better on the Notsofatsos it is. okay how has created the icon for our sig boxes so we can be proud NOTSOFATSOs for all of ADBB to see? I think we should include the team3 part in the icon what about y'all?

So how about some goals for next week for your exercise part of your Atkins just what you plan to do not actual times for your running or anything complicated like that.

Like I'm doing HIIT 3 days and BFL lifting and cardio 3 days a week.

Now we need to work on motivation to get everybody to stay on Atkins for 6 full months when the new infatuation wears off and it becames hard work and a daily grind. Do we need a weekly motivational question type thing? Like are your goals externally motivated as in to please somebody else or internally motivated like pleasing yourself?

Guess I misunderstood the challenge. Thought #'s were part of determining the winners... but I guess if we're all still here July 1..then we are all winners regardless. I didn't necessarily mean for everyone to share the #'s with each other.. I just thought we suppose to keep track of total losses for the team.

I can't help being overly enthusiastic. It's how I stay motivated to stay on track. I'll try to tone it down...lol

As far as the question you posed about why I'm doing Atkins.. (I think that's the question).. it's for both reasons.. external and internal. My feelings have been hurt by men who have in so many words said.. "you're cute enough to hang out with, but not cute enough to date." And in the end (regardless of how childish it may sound) I want to be able to flaunt what they could have had if they hadn't been so shallow.

I'm type II diabetic and PCOS challenged and sick and tired of being out of breath just from tying my shoes or shaving my legs. I'm uncomfortable and I hate it! I'm physically tired all the time and with my hectic schedule something's going to have to give in order for me to keep going.. so why not my weight.

My daughter's eating habits are starting to go downhill and I definately do not want to see her have to deal with a weight problem because of my inability to plan our meals accordingly. So I am also doing it to show her the proper WOE before it gets out of control. She's already an extremely shy child and I would hate for her self-esteem to be bruised by excess lbs.

I like the idea of a weekly question for the team to keep us motivated and to help us understand how best to support each other.

Best of luck to all of us!

woo hoo did you pick the right program for your health and to lose weight! Atkins will assist you with your blood sugars and if you have insulin resistant PCOS low carb is the treatment for that too. you do know we have a PCOS board and a diabetic board you can ask question on about your condition and talk with others about how Atkins has helped them. Our own Canuck (I'm so proud of her cause if you read her story you will see how this board helped saved her life in the summer of 2003) is written up in Dr Atkins Diabetic book.

Don't worry about being over zealous every newbie that comes here is either not sure atkins will work and full of convince me this is a good program questions or full of enthusiasm and sure they are going to be at goal in less then a yr no matter how much they have to lose. The hard part is keeping the enthusiastic ones motivated when reality sets in. The nonbelievers are so awed by the great success they have on Atkins they get hooked until the first stall. Those will be the two man points we need to be alert for. Another reason folk quit is they cheat and suddenly for some reason foreign to them they just can't get their Atkins restarted again. That is why you see me post in all the I'm going off plan for my trip topics NO! In my time here and on other boards i've seen so many successful losers suddenly stop posting and it always comes down to they cheated and couldn't get back on plan and have ballooned back up.

I completely understand... I was that very person you are talking about. I didn't have this board when I did Atkins 2 years ago and when I got comfortable and felt cute in my 16's, I thought I could slow down and even stop doing Atkins.. BOY WAS I WRONG! It took me this long to get back in to the mindset that I am READY to do it again. And with the knowledge I had before and all the new knowledge along with the great supportive group of people I am confident that I can really make this a WOL for myself. It helps so much for me to come in here and see all the other newbies as excited as myself and to know that there are people in here who will keep it real for us and be there for us when we do get to that point where our progress slows down.

I have checked out the PCOS and Diabetic boards and have even had an aunt check it out cause she is exactly like me.. has both and needs to lose weight. (I think she looks great...) but a little weight loss will really benefit her health. I hope she finds time to posts on the board sometime.

I'm spending a lot of time now finding recipies on here and getting my induction menu prepared so I can go to the store!
