Wow...I just found my name on this thread...I can't even find the original thread that assigns us to teams! (I guess I'm probably tres dense and it's staring me in the face...lol!)

Welcome all newbies (and not so newbies)!!! It's FANTASTIC to be on the same team with you all!
I think we're SO lucky to have 2big on our team!! She's such an inspiration and will be an awesome motivator!! (I'm glad you're our goalie, 2big!)
I've been following Atkins since the end of September 2004 (I've lost 26, and I'm planning to remain in Induction until I'm much, much closer to my goal.
With Atkins, you still have to work, and watch what you eat, it's just that the food tastes much better than on any other diet I've followed!
Can't wait to get going!!!

Lynn you have got it! that is the key and so many folk seeing Atkins on TV or reading the word unlimited (bad choice of description) on the fats and proteins miss that Atkins is about limiting your eating. It is calorie control through carb control. I know all the lurkers and newbies eyeballs just did this :yikes and their heads did this :nono but that is the bases for Atkions.
First we eat only enough of the foods we are allowed to eat to satisfy our hunger. Dr Atkins says so in the later chapters of DANDR and even clarifies that unlimited in chapter 18 instructions.
Dr Atkins knows carbohydrates spike blood sugar and inulin giving us blood sugar swings causing us to feel hunger even when our bellies are full to the brim. SO what did he do He said I will help you control that blood sugar swinging by restricting your carbohydrates and without that yo-yoing hunger you will be able to conrol your own eating of the fats and proteins to limit yourself in totla calories by obeying your bodies hunger signals.
Simple, right? we get to pick what proteins and what fats we want with waht foods from the acceptable carb lists in the prescribed amounts and combien them any way we want at any time of the day that we are hungry. That is Atkins. No preset menus, no timing of when to eat what other then not going more then 6 waking hrs without eating, no limit on the amount your body can have to satisfy that hunger. Just **** the carbs feed only the hunger and you will be a goalie following the complet Atkins program moving through the phases doing the required resistance and aerobic exercis part drinking all the water and taking your needed supplemets. it is that easy.
Then your brain gets involved and it becomes complicated. Our thirst and hunger control areas are side by side and many many peoplec having spillover of the chemicals think they are hungry when actually they are thirsty. If you aren't sure when you start out doing Atkins drink a glass of water when you feel hungry and wait about 30 mins if the hunger is gone you were thirsty. within a few weeks you will be fully hydrated and this shouldn't be happening.
If you watch a toddler eat you have seen a human respond only to hunger signals. they some meals eat only a bite or two and other days eat everything in site and you think they are going to bust. as we grow up our parents and their parents have conditioned us to eat inresponse to outside signals not just hunger going to the movies? got to have popcorn drink and snack. Having a party got to have food to socialize. Company comes got to have food as a form of hospitality. fall down get hurt a cookie will fix that boo boo. you behaved at the docs good you get a lollipop. and so on and now in our new WOE we got to unprogram all that and only respond to our hunger signals :yikes
Then there are those of us who are emotional eaters. We get mad and just got to have that cake, we get worried and just got to have the hotfudge sundae. Well that is your brain again. Our brains have a vast storehouse of info on foods we have eatten, how we were feeling before and after eating those foods too. it has cataloged them too by emotion, by event, by physical conditions, and many many more cross reference points. it knows what foods made you feel better and what foods made you worse. And it says "You are upset I'll help you. Eat this chocloate cause I know that chocolate has chenicals in it that will cause your body to react in a way that will calm you after you eat it." (bet you didn't know many foods have chemicals that minic neurotransmitters) And so you eat the food and you do feel calmer for a bit and then it wears off and agsin your brain the doctor springs into action tellin you to have some more. We need to break that cycle and reprogram our Dr Brain to respond with low carb foods or beter yet with nonfood actions to help sooth us. This is where that saying about exercing your will power comes from. the more you resiust those Dr Brain bad things ands substitiute a low carb fod or activitiy like exercise or meditation those nerual pathways to that high carb food as the cure become weaker and those new low carb or alternative activities pathways become stronger. Doubt it how many of you can remember still remember the poem you had to learn for frist grade? It is in there but the pathway hasn't been used much and has gotten weaker and weaker until we know we did it but don't know the actual words.
As you can see we all have a lot of work to do to be successful Atkineers and get to goal. We are going to stumble some of us sooner then later but it will happen. I was almost 700dasys cheatfree when my fall happened and it took weeks for me to get back to a cheatfree Atkins again cause i reinforced those bad hoigh carb pathways and weakend my good low carb pathways in the binge.
Just know that everybody on this board has been there and done that when you do fall and there is no shame in falling only in not getting up and trying again.
Now that I've scared off all the lurkers who thought they were going to stuff their face with cheese burgers and cheese cake and lose weight happy low carbing to eveybody who is serious about losint weight anf getting healthy for the rest of their lives.by the book atkinseer

Thank you Lynn! I couldn't have done it without you guys.
As of this morning, I am now at my "heavy weight" from college.
And I have to admit that I haven't been exercising for three whole weeks. With the holidays, planning my son's bar-mitzvah, and fighting with the school about my daughter's needs, I haven't had a moment in my day to go to Curves when it's open. Usually when that happens, I take a walk/run combo around my circle, but with the snow and ice that hasn't been feasible either. And yes, of course I could be walking on my treadmill, but I guess I've just felt too stressed to spend the time on it.
But now that I've confessed, I'm going to call Curves and find out if they are closing early today, and if not go over there. My husband has the day off today, so I don't have to worry about someone to watch the kids!

Happy 2005
Time to get cracken sure i fell off the wagon thru the holidays (only christmas eve thru New Years EVE).....
but today i am back on track.
MONDAY i will be back at the gym....
I need the atkins energy back.
I need the aches and pains that i have in my joints to go away.
I know atkins does help, ALOT..
I am on this program with no if and buts now.
And i know i got the best group motivator to keep
me focused.
In 2005 i am going to loose the baby weight finally!!!!
FOREVER.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TEAM 3!
Today is the first day of the rest of my life! I woke up ready to take on Induction. Thank God for this board cuz I'm going to need it everyday! I did this once before and I know how hard these first 2 weeks are so I appreciate each and every one of you for your support.
I'm getting dressed now to go to the gym and hit the treadmill for awhile. I'm sure the gym will be packed..but I'll have to suck it up and stay there anyway.
I committed to actually taking my glucophage EVERYDAY to keep my type II diabetes under control. Man I hate pills! They are the worst. I took that and my vitamin this morning...YUK.
Hoping the rest of the team finds time to pop in and say hello.
2Big...anything we need to be doing for the challenge?

just keep checking in and checking the stickie Pammie wrote to get the new folk on our list and nudge them in here and to do everything they can to be atkins sucesses. Glad you are heading to the Gym I have doner my hour on the treadmill and will be watching bowl games today

hey Gang not all of us are reinducting but if you are remember to rid the house of anything not on the acceptable foods lists that calls your name tell DH to keep his snacks at work.

So Far So good :joy I have been drinking my water and using my pedometer. Yesterday I did 12905 steps and today so far I did 8612. The hardest part so far was that yesterday a patient's son brought in Dunkin Donuts and put them right in front of me. I opened the box looked at them smelled the aroma of fresh donuts, covered them up and called all the staff to come and enjoy a donut. :raving
