  • Century Club Survey Time - Weighty Issues

Hi CC members! I thought it would be fun to start a survey to tell a little more about ourselves and our history with weight issues. Just copy and paste the survey below and put your answers in. I look forward to getting to know all of you a little better. Okay, I will go first:

1: What is your name? Elizabeth
2: How old are you? 27
3: What is your marital status? Single
4: Do you have children? Nope
5: What is your occupation? Special Education Teacher
6: What is the highest weight you ever remember being? 365 pounds!
7: What is the lowest weight you remember being as an adult & how old were you at that time? I got to 270 pounds my first time on Atkins about 4 years ago, so around age 23
8: How much do you weigh now? 325
9: What is your ideal goal weight? I'm aiming for 150, but really not sure at this point
10: How long have you been overweight? My entire life! I have always been the fat kid unfortunatley
11: What do you feel has contributed to you being overweight? Any emotional/psychological reasons behind it? My whole family is overweight so I definitely think genetics plays a role. Then I think once I became overweight and was constantly made fun of in school that just added to the emotional eating.
12: What has been your biggest obstacle to losing weight? What has held you back from losing for so long? I think just not thinking that I could do it... never really believing in myself. I just kept putting it off until "tomorrow."
13: What made you finally say "that's enough!" and take back control over your eating? Just realizing that life was passing me by. I was turning down alot of fun offers with friends (concerts, theatre tickets, amusement parks) because I was scared of not fitting. Also as I get older health has become a factor. I have diabetes on both sides of the family.
14: What brought you to the Atkins WOE? My dad was successful on this WOE (over 100 pounds) and so I decided to give it a try.
15: How long have you been on Atkins? I was on for about 8 months about 4 years ago and lost 70 pounds. Unfortunately I strayed away and gained it all back. I have been back on Atkins now for 3 months.
16: What is your favorite thing about being on Atkins? The cravings disappear and I feel in control of what I'm eating
17: What is your favorite form of exercise? Group classes at Gold's (Kick, Power, and Groove are my favorites)
18: How often do you exercise? 6 days/week usually
19: What does a typical breakfast look like for you on Atkins? Lately it has been cheese and pepperoni slices
20: What does a typical dinner look like for you on Atkins? Grilled Chicken Salad
21: Who is your biggest supporter(s) on your weight-loss journey? My parents, Jessica and Connie (my exercise buddies) and Tami (my kick instructor)
22: What are your overall health goals besides the number on the scale? To feel better and be more active.
23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Not ever having to worry about fitting in a seat at a resturant, theatre, office, or airplane! I'll be FREE to do as I please!
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? SKY-DIVING with all of my closest supporters!
25: What is your best piece of advice to give others starting out on their weight loss journey? Take it one day at a time. If you happen to have a bad day don't throw in the towel just get right back on track. Quit waiting for "tomorrow" or "next week" to start again, because it will never come! Start TODAY!
    LIZ
    27/5'3''
    Highest: 365
    Restart: 352 on 10/1/07
    *Mini goal 3: 299*
    Goal: 150 (going skydiving!)

The difference between try and triumph is just a little umph!

23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Rollercoasters and joining a sports team!
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? Probably shopping for new clothes...I think that just being healthy will be a great reward!
25: What is your best piece of advice to give others starting out on their weight loss journey? Don't doubt yourself and don't make excuses because you'll always find a reason to quit or cheat...think of it as entire lifestlye change, and not just a diet until you reach your goal weight...it's a lifetime committment, with the ultimate reward being your health

1: What is your name? Catrenia Nichole
2: How old are you? 36

3: What is your marital status? Divorced
4: Do you have children? Yes, a beautiful 6-year-old daughter
5: What is your occupation? Quality Assurance Analyst
6: What is the highest weight you ever remember being? 242 (the day I gave birth)
7: What is the lowest weight you remember being as an adult & how old were you at that time? 137, I was 23
8: How much do you weigh now? 198
9: What is your ideal goal weight? 140
10: How long have you been overweight? I had always thought I was heavy (actually wasn't). I started gaining weight after my first marriage (yep, I've been married twice),
11: What do you feel has contributed to you being overweight? Any emotional/psychological reasons behind it? I was sexually abused as a child by a family member and I truly believe that my weight (combined with emotional eating) was a way of making sure no one could get close to me.
12: What has been your biggest obstacle to losing weight? What has held you back from losing for so long? My thyroid and searching for over 3 years before I could get someone to treat it (doctors, including a stupid endocrinoligist said my thyroid was normal despite a massive goiter sticking out of the side of my neck). Meds are still not optimal.
13: What made you finally say "that's enough!" and take back control over your eating? Tired of being sick and tired. Tired of not being able to play with daughter. Tired of feeling like the pillsbury dough-boy. I was also pre-diabetic and would have been angry if I got a disease I could have prevented.
14: What brought you to the Atkins WOE? Truly realizing that I'm a carb-addict.
15: How long have you been on Atkins? Since 10/01/07.
16: What is your favorite thing about being on Atkins? Being able to taylor it around my food allergies and still have success. This WOE is definitely doable for the majority of people who try it.

20: What does a typical dinner look like for you on Atkins? Salad (cucumbers, lettuce with ranch dressing and bacon bits), fried chicken, and green beans.
21: Who is your biggest supporter(s) on your weight-loss journey? The Derby girls and Century Club members (BB)
22: What are your overall health goals besides the number on the scale? Ridding myself of Chronic Fatigue
23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Jumping on the trampoline with my daughter at Kidz Place.
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? Definitely a new wardrobe!
25: What is your best piece of advice to give others starting out on their weight loss journey? Arm yourselves. Prepare. Always have legal food on hand. You're usually tempted to cheat when you're hungry and don't have legal foods nearby. Carry snacks (pork skins, sliced meat). Also, L-Glutamine will help with any sugar cravings. Just DON'T GIVE UP!! How will you know what you can achieve if you don't try? It takes 21 days to form a habit (you owe it yourselves to at least give yourself that opportunity to see a positive change). YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!

5: What is your occupation? Office Administrator
6: What is the highest weight you ever remember being? 264lbs
7: What is the lowest weight you remember being as an adult & how old were you at that time? I weighed about 120 when I was 30 years old...I was also bulimic, which has been a battle for me most of my adult life.
8: How much do you weigh now? 225
9: What is your ideal goal weight? I would like to be around 135 but we'll see...right now I would like to be 195!
10: How long have you been overweight? After I had my twins...27 years ago!
11: What do you feel has contributed to you being overweight? Any emotional/psychological reasons behind it? Oh you bet...there is not enough room here for me! Bottom line is probably I am a perfectionist...if I can not be perfect then forget it! I was raised in a very strict military home and was always trying to be perfect...I am 51 now and realize I will never be perfect and neither will anyone else...we're human...only one perfect died for me.
12: What has been your biggest obstacle to losing weight? What has held you back from losing for so long? Really just my fear of failure and the possibility of regression into old bulimic patterns.
13: What made you finally say "that's enough!" and take back control over your eating? Like I have said, I am 51. I am a pretty healthy and active person...I was 30 yesterday...time goes so fast...I just want to remain healthy.
14: What brought you to the Atkins WOE? Bought the book about 5 years ago and though what the heck!
15: How long have you been on Atkins? I was on for about 4 months about 4 years ago and lost 50 pounds. Unfortunately I strayed away and gained it all back. I have been back on Atkins now for 1 month. I lost about 20 lbs. before I came back.
16: What is your favorite thing about being on Atkins? The cravings disappear and I feel in control of what I'm eating
17: What is your favorite form of exercise? I love to swim
18: How often do you exercise? 3-5 days per week
19: What does a typical breakfast look like for you on Atkins? Poached eggs in the microwave (yum!)
20: What does a typical dinner look like for you on Atkins? Chicken salad
21: Who is your biggest supporter(s) on your weight-loss journey? My dh and girls
22: What are your overall health goals besides the number on the scale? I have some joint pain...I would like to see it go!
23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Running after my grandchildren...really running...not shuffle running
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? I really just want to be able to go to the beach (I live by the ocean) and walk the shore looking for shells in a swimming suit and not feel like I need to wrap a towel around me or wear a big t-shirt or a pair of shorts.
25: What is your best piece of advice to give others starting out on their weight loss journey? Life is like a vapor, the older I get the revelation of that becomes more clear. So many of you on here are in your 20's and 30's, your whole life is before you...don't let your weight be a factor in the things you do or don't do in your life. I have pretty much done what I wanted to do weight or no weight BUT there have been times I did not do things to the degree I would have liked to. Don't let anyone or thing hinder you. Change is good!

23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Being able to resume water activities...I love the water, and living here in florida most of our activities are centered around water...so I will be so happy to wear a bathing suit (w/out worrying how terrible I look) and have fun again.
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? 1: What is your name? I'd rather not say
2: How old are you? 46
3: What is your marital status? married
4: Do you have children? yes
5: What is your occupation? Stay at home, homeschooling Mom
6: What is the highest weight you ever remember being? 360
7: What is the lowest weight you remember being as an adult & how old were you at that time? I was around 170-180 in college.
8: How much do you weigh now? 288
9: What is your ideal goal weight? Something under 200. DH knew me in college. He says I looked really good at 180. I might aim for that, but it seems like such a long way off.
10: How long have you been overweight? Always
11: What do you feel has contributed to you being overweight? Any emotional/psychological reasons behind it? Other than eating too much sugary junk, no I don't think so.
12: What has been your biggest obstacle to losing weight? What has held you back from losing for so long? Honestly, I think it's shallow to care about appearances so much. If I didn't lose this weight, I would still be happy being who I am. I don't want to be one of those people who is always on a diet and always complaining about their weight. I don't care if other people find my size unappealing. I am doing this to keep my blood sugar and blood pressure under control.
13: What made you finally say "that's enough!" and take back control over your eating? Being diagnosed with breast cancer. During all the various and frequently testing I saw that my blood sugar numbers were not good and I had episodes of high blood pressure. I am already on daily meds for the cancer, I do not need any other health problems right now.
14: What brought you to the Atkins WOE? Research
15: How long have you been on Atkins? I had tried it before and it worked. I didn't stick with it. I don't know why.
16: What is your favorite thing about being on Atkins? No cravings and I can still eat my all time favorite food (tuna with lots of mayo!)
17: What is your favorite form of exercise? Does sex count?
18: How often do you exercise? depends on what we are calling exercise.
19: What does a typical breakfast look like for you on Atkins? tuna salad with avocado
20: What does a typical dinner look like for you on Atkins? no such thing as typical when it comes to dinner. I have several low carb cook books and I like to try out new things.
21: Who is your biggest supporter(s) on your weight-loss journey? My DH and kids
22: What are your overall health goals besides the number on the scale? normal blood glucose - I recently had an HbA1C of 5.2 - YAY! and normal blood pressure. As I was typing this I pulled out my wrist cuff and took a reading 124/74 That's WAY better than it used to be.
23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Shopping for new clothes.
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? Shopping for new clothes.
25: What is your best piece of advice to give others starting out on their weight loss journey? You CAN do this. There will be times when you think you can't, but you CAN. Take it one day at a time. If that is too much for you, take it one meal at a time. You DO have control over what you put in your mouth. Just decide that, just for today, you are not going to eat anything you shouldn't. Anyone can do this for just a day.

13: What made you finally say "that's enough!" and take back control over your eating? The Older I get, the stronger my sense of mortality. That, and doing everyday stuff is ridiculously difficult.
14: What brought you to the Atkins WOE? Don't remember. guess it was part of the million and one diets I tried.
15: How long have you been on Atkins? First time, close to 3 years, second time about 8 months, this time for life!!
16: What is your favorite thing about being on Atkins? I'm never hungry!!
17: What is your favorite form of exercise? Gardening, shoveling, raking...practical stuff that actually accomplishes something
18: How often do you exercise? 2-3 x wk
19: What does a typical breakfast look like for you on Atkins? I'm lousy about breakfast. Maybe coffee, and a bite of something.
20: What does a typical dinner look like for you on Atkins? There is no typical....intentionally,,,,I try to keep a wide variety going to avoid boredom. Unlike my husband, who could eat burgers every day, I hate having the same thing even once a week.
21: Who is your biggest supporter(s) on your weight-loss journey? THIS PLACE!!
22: What are your overall health goals besides the number on the scale? Live a little longer, treat my body well, and buy a smaller coffin!!
23: What do you most look forward to doing when you get closer to goal? Be able to do every day stuff like bend over to tie my shoe without grunting!! Fit in the bathtub without a shoe horn. Oh the list is endless----stuff skinny people take for granted.
24: Do you have an ultimate reward for when you reach your goal weight? See #23.
25: What is your best piece of advice to give others starting out on their weight loss journey? JUST DO IT! Don't over analyze, don't listen to the negative talk. Just pull up your bootstraps and do it!!
