  • Having a hard time.

Back in 2002 I decided to do atkins because I saw it on 20/20 or 60 minutes (one of them). From August to December, I went from 315 to 230 and a 48 inch waist to a 36. Once the spring semester started, I fell off the wagon and substituded healthy eating and exercise with long nights of studying and fast food. I can't believe that I went from running 4 miles a day to barely being able to walk around the block....

It's pretty depressing, but now that I'm in graduate school, I have managed to baloon back up to 330 and have refused to buy any new clothes at all. For quite a while now, I've been wearing the same three sweat suites and I'm pretty damn tired of it because I have a closet filled to the brim with great clothes.... Problem is, they don't fit.

I've tried to start back up, only to fail towards the end of the day when my addictions take over. I swear, the only way I can describe it is some kind of chemical addiction because I go through the classic signs of a herroin (SP?) addict... It actually makes me fill physically sick.

Do you guys have a list or something that can get me started in the right direction for the first two weeks? I absolutely hate the taste of eggs, thanks to my first run with Atkins, but I'll do what I have to do. I need to get rid of this weight because it is literally killing me. I don't like to go anywhere, do anything, and I can't even do much without being tired out. I just want out of this prision that I made.

Hi, since you're asking for a list I'm wondering if you haven't read the book, or it's been a while and you don't have one anymore. You can go to the Atkins website and get your induction food lists under 'How to do Atkins'. I avoid cheating by just eating alot! For me a full tummy leads to absolutely zero cravings. But being in induction you're going to have to just resist the craving until they pass, and they will shortly. I hope you're going to stick with us and succeed! :icondance

You did it once, so you know you can do it again! Just put your mind to it! Fast food and lots of carbs are no longer options. Once you get that in your head, you'll have no problems.

Here's a list that will help you on induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=66739

And who says you have to eat eggs for breakfast??? How about a salad with leftover chicken on it? How about at Atkins friendly BLT (bacon, tomatoes and mayo wrapped in a lettuce leaf). You can eat anything for breakfast!

Pick a start date and put your mind to it!

Like Nicki_e wrote you can make a lettuce wrap with anything legal in it. I've been doing alot of this lately. What's your favorite sandwich? If you take away the bread and ad the lettuce wrap will it be safe? If so then go for it. Just pick a meat, veg, cheese, condiment to put in the middle and off you go. Easy to take with you.

Sometimes it just helps for people to be vocal about their feelings and problems. I'm just tired of this crap and want to get on with it already. I'm starting today and I'll probably start to take pictures to cement the deal. It's just so difficult to start because I think I'm actually pretty depressed (probably why I don't feel like going out and doing anything at all). I'll feel better when I can wear real clothes again and feel comfortable in my own skin. Thanks for the link.

Welcome back! Keep checking in with us Ernesto. Everyone in this forum (and the other forums) provide great support, humor and advice. I agree with the previous posters - try different things for breakfast. I'm the same way about eggs. Cannot stand them since my first go with Atkins. My favorite breakfast is a side salad and a hamburger with salsa.

You may also consider checking out the emotional eating/depression forums in addition to this one. Like I mentioned, everyone in all of the different forums is very supportive.

            Wishing you success!

My favorite weird breakfast, taco salad without the chips ofcouse. Miso soup in the winter. All very non-traditional breakfasts. When you cook dinner, make some extra for breakfast.
We can do this ernest, your a member of STACed now and we take baby steps if we need to. What part of this plan is the most difficult for you to get on with? If its exercise, then put exercise at the top of your list and for the next 2 weeks, don't worry about the diet, don't worry about the water, don't worry about the supplements, just get into the exercise habit. If its the diet, for the next two weeks just do induction, but need to take supplements also. If two weeks sounds impossible. When the two weeks is over add another baby step.
              Welcome aboard.

I"m sure you can do this! When I look back at my university days, I just cannot believe how horribly I ate....carbs galore, mostly my midnight studying snack was nacho chips and salsa....damn...but I believe there is a way to control the snacking, especially with all those carbs... try veggies or other legal foods instead...

Ernesto, welcome to the club! We really wish you all the best. I KNOW you can do it, your weight loss last time was amazing and if you could do it then, you can do it now. Just get past the first few days. That's always the hardest. After 3 or 4 cheat-free days it starts to sink in that you ARE capable of treating yourself better.

My big downfall is leaving the house during my first few days. I never keep things at home that will tempt me, but if I leave the house it's so easy to go through a drive-thru somewhere and screw up. I am honestly a suger addict. I can get something sweet, be halfway through it and already start thinking about my next "hit". Total suger freak! I try to stay home for the first few days as much as i can until the sugar beast in me goes into hibernation. Keep your spirits up by talking to friends on the phone, reading this BB, whatever it takes.

                  We're here for you!

                      Feeling like crap..

I have to tell you guys, I feel like garbage this morning. It is my fourth day, and I have been fighting back nausea(SP?) and extreme cravings. I'm hoping that if I just keep going, I'll feel better in the next day or so. I woke up this morning and had to vomit and it wasn't pleasant.

Ernesto...just keep going! You're in induction flu, and its a GOOD sign! I know its rough, but if you just push on, you'll feel better! Sugar is a DRUG! We are all recooperating addicts here, or we wouldn't be here! I have withdrawals, and every night about the time when I used to smoke and carb up, I still go through a low! Its sugar that screws me up everytime, and makes me even more SICK then I feel in induction. When the urge for sweets hits, get out of your house! Go for a walk or a jog. Drink lots of water...just keep going, man!

Yeah, I'm hanging in there. I don't feel like eating anything because I just feel awful. I can't even get any of my work done right now (I work out of home doing software development for my university). I'm resorting to sleep. I already feel tired because of it anyway, so I just try to stay in bed until it passes. I've also been taking pepto-bismal tablets too.

Ernesto, glad to see you are still with us. Just hang in there. Try to eat and push through this. You can do it! I agree with everything Maribelle said. We are sugar addicts. Just come visit ADBB when you are feeling down. If I'm close to a melt down, I like to look for recipe ideas so that I'm coming up with something new and different to try.

I just thought of something else...When I'm in induction in the first few days, I found out my hunger pangs switches to nausea. I get really sick to my stomach instead of hungry, and now I know to eat something when that happens. It honestly helps. Also, are you drinking your water? Drinking huge amounts of water at once will make you sick, too. Its better to keep some ICE cold water by you and sip it. One little thing I'm hating to say, since I know you're really suffering...Pepto Bismal tablets are sweet and sugary. Its possible they may start a craving? But I know that "I'm past caring" stage, when anything is worth getting rid of the pain.
