Re: Desserthorns' 2 Week Clean Induction chal.

WOOHOO! 3lb Whooshie for 1st day. Just water, I know...
    I really shouldn't have peeked!

Atkid, that is a very tasty-looking recipe I would love to try! I'm a little confused though how on induction you get away with horseradish, mustard, and the dehydrated onion "to taste" (for me that could be a cup of 'em!). Is it "legal"?
    (I hope so!)

How does one account for the carbs in all those herbs, spices, & other condiments - I should think they add up rather quickly with liberal use, including lemon juice.
In fact, before Atkins WOE, when $$ was tight, sometimes I could cook up a delicious soup using nothing more than fast food condiment packets, free, and herbs & spices; with or without whatever was left in the meat/veggie bins.

Another suggestion for the lettuce-hater: with a little math, I would think a little substitution of like-for-like SHOULD be OK for the induction; ie, instead of 2 C salad choice(s) & 1 C regular veggie with a total say, of 15 carbs, shouldn't hurt to exchange the 2C salad's worth of carb for that or less in additional carb from the regular list?
Anyone care to back me up or chop it down?

im kinda frustrated with the whole 2 cups of veggies thing. because I love all kinds of different veggies, cauliflower is one of my favorites. the problem is the 2 cup list, i dont like many in there. I thought I was safe with cabbage and spinach, and it turns out those aren't on the salad list!

I love peppers, and I was eating the 2 cups, but it used up all my carbs. I like cucumbers, but I can't imagine a nice way to get in 2 cups a day of em. i loooove mushrooms, but they're too expensive to make them a staple. so i'm back on lettuce.

today I tried to make a soup, and mix it in with roasted pepper and parmesan, and I was able to gulp it less painfully.

I honestly can't picture dealing with 2 cups of lettuce every day. maybe I'll get used to it.

thanks so much for the ideas, though!
J, Cabbage and Spinach are both okay. The only problem is that you have to measure them carefully as particularly Spinach boils down to nothing, so measure it fresh and then cook it. If your using frozen, check the serving amount, the one I have in the freezer states that a serving is a half cup and thats 3 carbs, which is fine to eat.
Try mixing your spinach with about a quarter block of cream cheese and a hand ful of parmesan cheese. OMG its delicious and hard to eat only a 1/2 cup.

I feel like an old grandma here. Canibe are you eating enough!!!! Remember we have to eat at least every 6 hours and one way to keep the weight on is to go into starvation mode....Your body reacts by holding onto the fat.
Also, make sure those vitamins don't have iron, A-Z worries me, Iron is one mineral that we don't need much of in our system.

I'm doing a repeat of yesterday's menu - it was sooooo good -
2TB extra virgin olive oil, 1C diced scallion, 1C whole cherry tomatoes, 1T each black pepper, cayenne, salt. Sautee 10 min, lay 2# swordfish on top. Simmer 5 min, turn, simmer till desired doneness. Lemon juice squirt is good. Cut celery dipped in cream cheese on side. divide among 4 small meals. 5th can be whooshie, egg, or bacon...

Yesterday, Day 2 went very good for me - followed the same menu as Day 1 with the exception of eggs, cream cheese, and SF vanilla instead of the pumpkin as a snack. Got in over 100 oz. water.

            30 minutes on indoor bike

Deserthorn - thanks for the advice - checked the vits and minerals and guess what Iron is there - I really struggled to find one and chose these because they have the Potassium, Selenium and the odd bod ones in - think I may have to try a pharmacy or health food shop.
With regard to the food I am really struggling to eat - todays menu is probably a bit short too will have a look at Bonniestompers list again and try to add some more items - do you think its meat I'm short on or the salad and veg? One thing I do know is my cravings have gone too but I don't want to ruin everything by not eating enough - I think this is the only time in the past ten years I've been told I'm not eating enough!!!! This is ---

              Day 2 5 Bratworst Sausage
              Two portions hamburger whooshie
              Chicken breast
              Mixed Salad
              3 egg ommlette
Flax cereal with single cream and water - urgh! Have bought a huge
pack from Holland and Barett for ten quid!!! Will have to try the other recipes and make crackers and buns and things. Will let you know how I go on.

Water went well realised I'm not drinking enough have now upped my daily consumption to 130oz and I feel better for it. All advice, comments and tips apppreciated.

Don't worry about the iron, just next time get something without. I think Centrum has one without iron.

Thanks for that - will do. What do you use the www.sbdbb.com site for - I looked on it - is it the same as the Atkins Plan?

Yesterday was great, had a couple hard boiled eggs for breakfast, and a mixed veggie salad with 1/2 oz of blue cheese for lunch, and dinner was some read snapper, OMG it was so delicious, I poached it in chicken broth and some onions and celery. It was good.

I am so happy you guys are doing this with me, it makes induction easier.

I'm all proud of myself. the swimming is going amazing, today I swam in 63 minutes what usually takes me 1:40!

also, I went to my gym, and they took all kinds of measurements. in about 40 days, I've gone down in body fat from 40% to 35%!
                            yeay!

oh, desert, thanks for the ideas, but, cabbage and spinach are on the 1 cup list. I could just break the rules and go on my own way, but I'm trying to see if I can stick to them...

just made a cheesecake for my bday tomorrow. yumm!!
