  • Wed Check in, knowledge is power

Good morning STACers...It's wed. If knowledge is power, what is your favorite part of the DANDR book? What really clicks for you? I think the thing that made the most impact was the bloodsugar symptom test you take early in the book. I know in my "yellow" 2002 edition, it's on pg 131 I believe. There is a long list of symptoms from bloodsugar woes....Man, I re-took the test after a few weeks and I was so surprised at how much impact carbs and sugars had on my emotions. 6 months into the whole process my teenager casually said to me one day, "Mom you are a different person, you use to freak out all the time and were such a grump! Now you are happy"...
Emotional stability was something I craved the most...Getting my bloodsugars normalized and smoothed out, allowed me to begin to function in a calm manner. Then add to that fact that the diet gives you a boost of energy, I was able to exercise which allowed for the endorphines to kick in and that too added to my mood...add self control to the mix and I began to trust myself and thrive again... I can relate to many of the negative feelings in that blood sugar symptom test.

So what's your favorite piece of knowledge that you leverage every day for empowerment on this way of life?

That I can lose weight & not be HUNGRY. I spent sooo long starving myself and not accomplishing anything but making myself and everyone around me miserable.

I started Induction at 178.5, during the first week I went up to 181.5 . I just kept chanting to myself...

The scales are not your friend, the scales are not your friend. Kept eating my veggies and fat and protien and viola...this morning I was back down to 178.5. But most importantly to me...I was NEVER hungry!

      Good Morning STACer's,

Knowledge is power. I love that saying. My favorite part of the book would have to be the same as Di, I just loved not being hungry, eating great foods. I especially loved the success stories that Dr A shared with us. Great Stats!!

I hope everbody is having a great day, hope your all still focused on the task at hand. Remember, life is what happens when your busy making other plans...John Lennon.

I would have to agree with Di and Scooter.. I like the not being hungry. All though I am hungry for breakfast right now..which is such a change.. I never use to eat breakfast until 9 or 10... Its 7:30 and I am going to go fix me something.

You know I was thinking this morning.. I freaked out because I came home 6lbs heavier this weekend when I was on program and haven't cheated at all. Then the scales went back down 3 and now again 1. I am NOT going to let that bother me. My weekly weigh in is on Monday's...And I am 4 pounds down on that one...2lbs the first week 2 the second.. Well If I eat like I am...being full and I lose 2lbs each week I am going to be a LOT LOT skinnier by the end of the year. I didn't put it all on in one day and its not going to come off in one day. I feel better.. I feel lighter.. My stomach isn't bloated..well except the Tom part...lol Man I hate that guy...lol

I find the most interesting part of the book the part where he talks about the fact that people didn't used to eat any refined sugars or flours - that was when the human race began to show obesity. I keep telling myself that my body was not created to run on sugar and flour, but protein, natural fats and veggies and fruits. And that THAT is what I should feed it. That is what really made this WOE make complete and total sense and you realize that it's the TRUTH!

I'm not feeling very coherent this morning lol so hopefully that made sense! Off to have my breakfast, I woke up hungry this morning!

Jess, I would have to agree with you. I do like not being hungry, but the big thing for me is stabilizing my sugar. I have had trouble with hypoglycemia since college. There's nothing worse for me than a sugar drop and the subsequent mood swings and cravings, then being tired from the whole deal. This is Day 3 for me and I am so hoping that I can finally get rid of those!!!!!

Re: Wed Check in, knowledge is power

I'm still getting used to the not being hungry. Monday (my actual second day of STAC Induction) I had part of a leftover hambuger and some broccoli at 11 AM and then I literally didn't eat anything else until 6. In my former WOE that never would have happened. But I weighed in on Day 3 and I am down 2 pounds. I cannot believe how easy it is.

The water for me is a HUGE component. I tried to drink when I wasn't on Atkins, but I remember from my first time around how much my four 32 oz. bottles of H2O a day really contributed to my hunger pangs. So for me, water water water. I find room temp a lot easier to drink than cold, but that's just personal, I guess.

Keep it up, everyone! We're doing great!

Makes total sense to me and is one of the parts that made a huge impact on me.

The one that made the MOST impact was on pg 24 (paperback) about what sugar does. It releases a load of insulin to stabelize the blood sugar. The insulin, in turn, helps retain or create fat. So I had little notes around the kitchen: Sugar = Insulin = Weight Gain!! (There's stlll one on the inside of a cupboard door...) From other information I've read about the pancreas and insulin, I pretty firmly believe that the pancreas wears out and develops the pancreatic cancers due to the high intake of sugars. (Just a note about that, I may be wrong but it's how I'm seeing it.)

                      Two things:
                      1) Blood sugar stability for control of mood swings
                      2) Blood sugar stability for control of cravings

                      Those two things are PRICELESS.

Good Morning Everyone!!! Ok i have to agree with Jess, i have been more calmer since getting my blood sugar stable. I notice the times i have went off that i become more witchy especially the first two days that i try get back to induction, its like my body is trying to hold on to the sugar, but its almost like im pmsing when im trying to get back on track. I also enjoy that my life dont revolve around food, and i can actually eat like a normal person.

I agree with Skinnymom. I like that he tells us when and how much sugar consumption changed and how it affected the public's weight. Eating all that sugar and flour is just not natural.

More broadly, I'm a huge believer that knowlege is power. I didn't learn that from Dr. Atkins and it applies to so many other areas of life. I always try to make the best decisions possible with the knowlege that I have at the time, but you just can't have too much knowlege.

I'm still home with pneumonia-boy, but he's getting better. I let him eat a cookie that dh brought home from his trip. He ate all the way around it to make a tiny round cookie and then offered it me. I told him that I couldn't have it and he said, "I know, but can you at least kiss it?" So I kissed a cookie this morning!
