I would...

call the local manager, and follow up your phone call with a letter.

write a letter to his manager.

write a letter to the corporate office.

write to the newspaper.

write to, and call the local news station.

It wouldn't hurt to cc an attorney on the letters you send to the managers/corporate office.

I'm so sorry this happened to a innocent child who has no idea what heartless, cowards exist in this world. I and (everyone here) can feel your hurt coming off the page. Please don't let this hurt you. You ask why she's this way? More than likely she was criticized and treated with disrepect by the adults whe were her role models. Also, more than likely she hasn't suffered any consequences for her disregard and disrepect for others. It's now your job to teach her. Do it for your son and ALL the children who suffer because of immature people like her. If you hit a roadblock, which you more than likely will, try another way. Let us know how you're progressing. Nail this witch!

UPDATE!!

Thought you guys would like to know what has happened so far. My mil beat me to the punch! I was going to go down to the store this afternoon after school and talk to the manager (we'll call her Patty - don't want to get into real names). My mil called her today and spoke to her before I had the chance to. Apparently, Patty was in the store Sunday, the day after we were there, and the lady that waited on me (we'll call her Kelly) told her about the whole incident as soon as she walked in the door. So, Patty called in the witch for her side of the story (we'll call her Meg). Meg apparently told Patty that she apologized before we left. She said that Kelly exaggerated the whole thing. So, when my mil called Patty this morning, she told her the same story that Kelly told her. So it was obvious that Meg was lying. (Does this sound like a soap opera yet?)

So, Patty told my mil that she wanted to speak with me to get my statement, too. I couldn't talk to her until I got out of school. After Patty spoke with my mil, another customer who had been in the store at the time of the incident called her and gave Patty her side of the story, which was essentially the same as my mil's and Kelly's. The customer is willing to have her statement taken and advised she would be willing to go to court.

Patty, now with three statements against Meg, decided not to wait until she spoke with me to call her district manager and gave him the whole story as she knew is so far. (Turns out, Patty has a special needs child, too, and she is more than disgusted by the whole incident.) Unfortunately, she has a certain procedure she has to follow to protect the store from unlawful termination lawsuits. Patty told me that Meg has been suspended without pay for further investigation. Now she also has my statement, so there are four altogether. I told her that a colleague of mine was there, as well, and she said the more statements we have, the better. The feeling I got was that Meg is going to be terminated, but we will just have to see. Patty apologized over and over and assured me that she does not condone any kind of behavior like this in her store. She asked that we come see her soon so she could apologize in person to my ds.

I feel much better about all of this. Patty told me that her district manager will still call me, which is what I want. I still plan on writing a letter to corporate, but am thinking I will wait a couple of days to see what the final outcome will be. If Meg is terminated, then I will give kudos in the letter to Patty and her boss for handling it the right way. If she isn't, then I will push for something more to be done. I am also still planning to write a letter to the editor about the whole incident. I think everyone should understand that this kind of behavior just isn't acceptable.

I will continue to keep all of you up to date as I receive more information. I wanted to thank you so much for getting me through this. It has definitely helped venting with you guys!!!!!

cheri, i am so glad that you are pursuing this. the manager must surely be embarrassed of her employees behavior whether her own child has special needs or not.....NO ONE, special needs, or overweight, or a different ethnicity etc should EVER have to endure such humiliation....i COMMEND YOU for taking a stand for what is RIGHT. it is unfortunate that "meg" has had to learn this lesson the hard way. maybe in the long run it is a good thing for her and will teach her empathy.

i TRULY BELIEVE IN THE GOODNESS OF PEOPLE. yeppers let me tell you that in my own life i have had more than my share of not nice people....but i have also discovered that this world is FULL of good, loving and caring human beings. sometimes it is just harder to notice them for all the nastiness that surrounds us. and in the end, goodness rules. it truly does. hang in there and see this thru. your son is blessed with a wonderful mommy. he may never fully understand what it is that you have done for him but others will......you are my HERO!

Cheri, I've only just seen this post. How awful that this happened. I'm so glad that you are taking action over this and not letting it go. It breaks my heart how truly awful some people in this world are. I hope that when you get this resolved it will help you put the awful incident behind you and your family.

If I may suggest, I would write a letter to the company now. Being the parent of the targetted child, your letter explaining what happened that day will give the managers a rock-solid ability to fire the woman. In this day of litigation, they really need it to get rid of this woman and hold her completely accountable (i.e.; no chance for unemployment compensation, being sued, etc.)

You can always send a thank-you letter later for the way they handled this. But at this point, holding back is creating a bit of a Catch-22. Your letter explaining what happened will allow them to fire the woman and be done with her much sooner than they could be without it.

I'm glad they are responding to this; it's totally unacceptable.

YAY Victory that someone is listening.. I am so glad that the manager is looking into this.. I hope that the worker learns a lesson from this...

Good for you!!!! I am glad this woman will have to experience the consequences of her unacceptable behavior (paris hilton, anyone?). Pat yourself on the back for not only standing up for your son, but for helping to teach this woman a hard lesson she should have learned back in the third grade but didn't. I am proud of you.

wow! keep us posted! We want to know the final result! Yeah for you for standing up for what is right! Since her parents failed to teach her right from wrong, society is forced to teach her even if it means losing her job. Sad. Sorry you've had to go through so much.

Well, I haven't spoken with the manager since last week. Not sure exactly what is going on, but I've been in there twice in the last five days and I haven't seen Meg. My friends and family haven't seen her either. If I don't hear anything by the end of the week, I'm going to speak with the manager.

It's been awhile, but I thought you guys would want an UPDATE! It was confirmed that the checker was definitely fired. It took so long to confirm it because we went on vacation, then the manager went on vacation, then I got too busy to go to that store. Just found out not too long ago.

Thank goodness there is some Justice in this world!!!!
