    Re: Wednesday 24/10

    Hi everyone!

I woke up today ready to unpack the car, thinking we are past the evacuation danger, only to learn that 2 fires have merged and may be heading toward us eventually - not today, though. So, the car stays full of stuff.

Yesterday we kind of lay around all day except for a brief period in the afternoon when I cleaned out a remote closet. That was good, except now I have about 3 bags of things to give away and a big huge thing of trash - and we haven't had garbage service since Saturday, lol. But the clothing and stuff will be welcome at the Salvation Army, which is setting up "shop" to let evacuees take whatever they need.

Hopejoy and I have been pmming and it turns out we live not far from each other and belong to the same gym, so we are going to hook up. That's one fun thing that has happened, though frankly I wish that the city of San Diego wasn't required to be on fire for us to figure that out!

I've been eating so-so. Nothing illegal, I promise. Just not enough, and not very much in the way of veggies. I have to eat more - but frankly, when I don't exercise, my appetite is nil. I try to have something every couple of hours. We may head over to Ihop for lunch or something, and then I will have a salad in addition to eggs, because for some reason, I can't bring myself to make salad at home anymore - isn't that WEIRD?

I just love reading everyone's posts. We are a really tight group, and I feel like I know each of you. I LOVE reading about everyone's successes and trials/tribs!!!!!!!!! Thanks for continuing to be normal while those of us in S. Calif are kind of turned upside down.

      Morning everyone!

Had a good day yesterday! No cheats and I weighed myself this morning and got back to 147 from gaining a couple pounds last week, so now I'm excited to reach my goal by next Wednesday! 3 more lbs and that's definitely do able (hopefully). Drank tons of water yesterday and I'm glad I'm finally getting back on track and starting to feel better again, I never realized how crappy carbs made me feel before I started this WOE, it definitely gives me a reason to stick to it when I think of how I'll feel after thinking "one bite wont hurt", I'm so happy today and in a really good mood!

      Have a good day!

        Re: Wednesday 24/10

        Good Morning STAC'ers,

Happy Hump Day! Yesterday I thought it was Wednesday and I thought it was the last week of October..... Maybe it was a blond thing, but I think it is a busy thing. I am truely busy and I think my minds way of dealing with the pressure is to zone out everything else less important (like dates).

I screwed up yesterday and did not go to the gym again. Today I am going around 9 am. I will work out and give my self some me time. Hubby worked late and then we had un expected company so we missed our work out.

I did weigh myself this am still at 205/206. I am okay with that. I haven't been getting all my water in for the better part of last week and not enough veggis. Yesterday I was at least better about that.

To make matters worse I feel like I am coming down with another cold. I have a snotty nose and I am coughing a little bit..... I will be getting the ZYCAM (if that is what it is called). I was told it worked well.

Evermind and Hopejoy be safe! It is very cool that you found out that you are near neighbors.

Sandy- See all of you hard work and dilligence paid off like we all knew it would. Good Job!

Meena- I hope your tummy gets better soon. I usually get a weak stomach with stress. When we were moving out of state I swear I puked about every hour for 2 weeks. My entire family was sure I was prego..... You will be okay. My husband used to work out of state- for 5 years he worked 3 months on with a month paid vacation= so we had 3 months a year together.... and huge phone bills. Now we have the wonderful internet

        Have a great day people!

Hello everyone. I am here I guess. Its another dark rainy day in NY. The dark skies slow me way down. I think my Seasonal Affective Disorder is in full swing now. I feel kind of gloomy. I am sticking to my diet plan though. Had a delicious stuffed chicken breast for supper last night, stuffed with mozzarella cheese and a slice of cooked ham. There may have been a bit too much salt in it because the scale showed a 1 1/2 weight gain this morning. Extra water this afternoon should take care of that. I will try to work in a 15 minute yoga work out before I go to work. Have a great day everyone.

                Re: Wednesday 24/10

HI everyone, just checking in, i know its late today for me to check in but my day has been a crazy one. I have been under a lot of stress lately, dealing with my oldest daughter and her behaviour at school and at home, so i had to go to the school this morning and calm her down and then i just kind of sat up there in the front for about an hour before i headed home to make sure she was going to behave. I also had to go talk to the school counselor and she gave me a lot of resources to go and get her some help. I have put it off and put it off because i feel im her mom and i should be able to figure it out but i have realized that this is not the case. I guess i feel they so overdiagnose add and adhd because of a childs behaviour which me and the counselor think that its something else all together, not that she doesnt have any one of those but her defiancy is so high, even the counselor said she has been in the school system for 21 yrs and she has never seen a child so defiant. And my daughter is 7 so i need to get it figured out before she is a teenager. She has always had a temperment and she did ot therapy and speech therapy when she was 3 and 4 and when she was 5 she had her adnoids and tonsils taken out and i mean she was a different kid, her behaviour turned around dramatically, but 2nd grade came and its been a downhill battle with her. But anyway as far as my eating goes im doing good, i just need to up my water and i will be doing even better. Well i just wanted to check in and vent a little i guess about my daughter and let you know im still hanging in there.

                  Hi everyone,

Day 3, going ok, except for a blip of a sugar thought. I pushed through it and I intend to do it again the urge comes up again.

Best to all, including the folks affected by the fire.

Hang in there Lisa. Kids can be tough. There are so many things that can affect them. Have you had her allergy tested? I remember when my daughter was about 1st and 2nd grade we were having all kinds of problems we went to a therapist who said she needed meds for ADD- well about 1 week on the meds and she was a complete basket case. My daughter is Dyslexic so if she doesn't understand she would wrap her self into soemthing she could understand (lucky for us it was art). We were lucky to be working with a private school at the time that helped us figure out what worked for her. She ended up having coffee (small can of Starbucks) with her lunch and things smoothed out.

Now she is older and we have learned that certain things like red and blue dye (which is in alot of kids foods) can cause allergic reactions that cause a number of behaviors- including defiance. If you have't checked it out it may be worth it for you.

Do you have her in martial arts? That is a great stress reliever for kids and they also learn self control.

Good Luck and keep up posted.

                      Re: Wednesday 24/10

As a special educator, I want to say that caffeine is often used by parents who are reluctant to or who have experienced bad side-effects from traditional adhd meds.

Basically, the treatment for hyper kids is to give them speed, which has the opposite effect on them than it would us. Caffeine is an upper, so it makes sense.

I respect parents' decisions about meds. However, everyone with a child who has adhd should read "Joey Pigza swallowed the key" in order to understand what is happening in the mind and body of their kid. It's a novel, and very good.
