    Sunny!
I'm not 100% sure the turnips weren't peel when I bought them? That was literally the first time I have ever had a turnip up close. It was kinda purple in places, but it did look like it had been scrubbed by the market? So it is entirely possible that they were peeled and I had no idea

Just a suggestion on the turnips...they work amazing in beef stew made in the crockpot, even help to thicken the juice, I use them and my husband doesn't have a clue that they're not potatoes.

I love this thread, I have never in my life cooked with a radish or a turnip.
        This is awsome!

            I love fried radishes!

I cut them up and sautee them in a little butter with chopped onion until brown, eat with some sour cream and they taste like homefries - yummy

It wasn't peeled. What you had was a purple top turnip--the best kind. You usually peel them, but if you liked it with the peeling on, I'm sure it is better for you. I'm out of turnips, but when I get some more, I'm going to try them not peeled. This is what they look like fresh out of the garden.

Funny you should mention that Spazzyhilo, I did it last night. I made one of not2late's skillet suppers using onion, chicken breast, mushrooms and frozen spinach. I added a bit of broth for moisture, not enough to make it like soup. I boiled radished for about 15 minutes and quartered them, then tossed them into the skillet just before serving. They were just like potatoes - I am totally amazed. I will never be without them again!! I can hardly wait for Saturday breakfast to attempt hash browns!!

I have to give this a try.. although I always loved raw radishes. My family used to eat them in salads and they're so delicious.

                        Re: Radish: Taming a Fireball

I took the suggestions and finally tried radish tonight. I sliced then boiled them, put them in my silicone bake dish, I stirred together a bit of soy flour, calorie countdown milk, cheese, onion and xanthan gum and poured it on top.
Put it in the oven on broil for a bit and even though the radish looked a little "odd" because of their reddish color the taste was as close to potato as possible. I was truly amazed. We are definitely putting them in our garden this year. I also bought turnip but haven't tried it yet. I did taste the radish uncooked and it was pretty good. I like the crunch!

I finally made fried turnips and onions tonight, and it felt like cheating. I tried baking some like fries and they still had that turnip tang, so I didn't like them. This time, I peeled them and sliced them thin and soaked them in cold salt water for an hour before drying them and frying them in butter. This seemed to soak out some of the tang. They browned up so nicely and looked just like fried potatoes. YUM!

                          Sunny!

I just have to share.....I made the hash browns - very good.
Last night, I boiled radishes for 15 minutes, drained them and then halved them. I heated butter and a bit of grapeseed oil in a skillet and browned the halves. Served with a steak with a small puddle of ketchup for dipping. Hard to tell they were not potatoes. Awesome!

So of course y'all know I love putting the radishes in my pot roast as potato substitutes. But Pink, I gotta try your "fried potato" radishes!

-Oh and Sunny, I tried turnips tonight! I had a nice ham bone leftover from ham. Normally I would make a nice pot of beans and ham or cream of potato soup. Instead I made cream of cauliflower with cheese. I added peeled and chopped turnips to the soup and they tasted just like potatoes! Mmm-mmm!

Sheepie told me about using radishes. Had them last night & WOW! I had a roast with cabbage & the radishes in the crockpot. Felt like I was having potato. Will definately be trying some of these other ideas. Thanks!
