      Re: Starting 02/10-02/11??

Good morning all you induction-peeps! Well it's the start of day 4 for me and I'm still going strong. Yesterday I was spot on perfect, except that I'm not drinking enough water, but I'm getting better about it. I know I shouldn't weigh, but I'm down 5 pounds since Sunday.

I've got a beef roast in the crockpot already for tonight's supper, and leftover steak that I'll be eating for lunch. I think I'm going to hit the grocery store salad bar as well. I LOVE SALAD BARS!!!!! Especially on Atkins because it's like a free for all with all the chicken, bacon, cheese, full fat dressing, etc. I'm obviously not bored with my foods yet.

One final pat-on-the-back for me, if I can be so modest.... I posted in another thread somewhere that one of my biggest challenges is resisting the cookies that we are required to bake at work. They sit within eye shot all day. Anyway, I have not succumbed to the cookie monster. Woot!

Thats great Effie! Resisting temptation when I it is within arms reach is worth applauding...i have a very very hard time doing so..last night my bf had french fries with his sandwich and I had to literally slap my hand from going to his plate..lol...kudos everyone for a great induction so far! I am on day 4 too and doing alright...haven't weighed my self but i am trying to get rid of the coffee by substituting with tea...not sure if its a better choice but i am trying...also does anyone know how we can tell if wat we r losing is fat or just water weight? do ketostix tell that? also how much of a role does exercise play during induction...will it help the metabolism? i have been constipated for the last 2-3 days...is anyone else experiencing it too? if so any suggestions on how to get rid of the constipation? Thanx for all the support and answers u guys...if it wasant for this board i wld have given up long ago!

WOW! Congrats on the 5 lbs!!! I'm trying really hard to avoid my scale until Sunday lol. Luckily its tucked away so I can't see it til then or I'd be standing on it as I type this? ;-)

Wow, where do you work that you are required to bake cookies? And.. can I work there, too? JK. But thats definately tough!!! Speaking of, our work does candy grams and I just got three and they are sitting here STARING at me - and my usual avoidance is to bring them home to the hubby, but since he's on Induction too -- looks like I'll be pawning them off onto other coworkers!!

Todays meals are much more boring as I didn't plan much of anything last night...

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 bacon
Lunch: Tuna Mix (tuna, mayo, cucumber, salt, pepper)
          Snacks: 2 cheese snacks
Dinner: Steak grilled in garlic butter, Garlic & Herb string beans
Sweet: 2 cup coffee with 2 tbsp CoffeeMate SF per cup
Total Carbs: 19.4 carbs / 15.1 net carbs

            Re: Starting 02/10-02/11??

I think many folks reccomend taking some flax seed or upping your fiber-rich veggies to help speed along the potty process! But check around the other forums, there is a ton of good advice!

I'm trying to wean myself off coffee as well. I'm using decaf which is OK, but I really don't need to be utilizing those extra carbs on Splenda - especially because I still drink about 36-48 ounces of tea a day on top of that and my water!

I'm trying to up my water intake as well. And my exercise. On the "what are we burning" level - in almost any diet, the first weight you lose is water weight but that isn't a BAD thing like so many folks lead you to believe. When your body begins to burn fat instead of carbs for energy, the result is our cells utilizing more water to process (having a brain fart, I want to say it has to do with glycogen but someone will correct me lol) and flush out. The ketosis sticks only tell you if you have ketones in your urine stream - the byproduct of your body burning fat. But whether your weight you are losing initially is water weight or fat weight, your body is still utilizing FAT as a source of energy - so you are always losing fat!

Today is my first day without coffee...so we shall see what I turn into in a bit I am on day 4 today and actually doing well. I'm a scale junkie so I weigh myself the same time every morning...and I'm down 4lbs now!! I am proud that I haven't cheated...although I have to make sure to keep away from the valentines day cupcakes!!

Effie, congrats on the weight loss!! Awesome

P.S. - Does anyone know what the carbs/sugar content are for Chorizo? I have a chorizo link in my fridge but I can't find the packaging to it, so I don't know what the carb/sugar content is. Any help??

Morning everyone! I'm a little slow at getting started today. I need caffeine to wake up! But I am resisting. 7 days without it so far!! Half way there! I'm so proud of me! Tonight, I start exercising. I'm going to start out with 15 minutes on the elliptical until I can get my fat body used to working out again! Exercising, for me, is going to be much harder than induction itself. I get burned out so easily, so I'll need lots of support to keep it going once I get started!

Good morning all and Happy Valentines day!!!

So far pretty good. Checked the ketostix this morning and im definately in Ketosis as it showed moderate. Im also a scale junkie so I stepped on it this morning and Ive lost only 1.2lbs Ugh how can that be? Aside from that stupid canola mayo incident yesterday I have been doing a pretty clean induction drinking lots of water. Eating my 20gms of Carb. I dont think my calorie intake is that bad. I have not been checking so maybe I do need to check fitday and see.

Aside from my so far disappointing loss Im well and will continue to stick with it!!! Have a good one!!!

Hey whats going on with the energy drink????? Not good. YOu have to get off the sweetner. Try your best not to have one tomorrow. You have to get out of the mindset of feeling defeated by the mistake you made. Otherwise you will use it as an excuse to do it again.

So no more Monster drinks!!! Have a little more during lunch if your not full.

Were all still here to keep you motivated!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Franklin, make sure you watch the sausage because most of the premade sausages have sugar in them! I was disappointed in the beginning when I found this out because I thougt it would be super easy to just heat up a couple ready to eat sausage links. I still need to try to find that sugar free sausage. There's some out there somewhere!

                            Re: Starting 02/10-02/11??

Hi folks! Not to be negative, but during Induction, I would stay away from most any "Low Carb" products as they usually are "low carb" but not legal during this phase and you could end up working so hard on everything else (food wise, exercise wise) and still find that your body is under the impression you're taking in more carbs than you are (triggering more insulin) and you'll find your weight loss doesn't turn into what you had hoped.

Remember Atkins rule. If it isn't on his list, it doesn't go in your face (essentially).

Plus read ingredients. Remember most sugars end in "ose" on labels (minus sucralose, which is Splenda).. So Dextrose, Glucose, etc are all names for plain 'ol sugar. The Monster Energy Drink is "low carb" in the sense that its lower carbs than the original, but the second ingredient is REAL sugar: http://www.monsterenergy.com/product/lowcarb.php Its always worth checking labels because to be classified as "low carb" versions, they only have to be a certain % lower in carbs than their original. Meaning they still can contain real sugar or other non-Atkins-friendly ingredients.

Also remember to count carbs for items that often are labeled at 0 carbs. Because in the US, its often acceptable to label an item at 0 carbs if its less than one. So often you see bacons, sausages, heavy cream or snack-sized cheeses labeled as "0" carbs - when they really should nearly be counted as one! Sausages typically have 1 (most processed meats), Cheese is 1 carb per ounce, even eggs are 0.6 carbs an egg -- Just be aware because these can add up quickly! =)

Plus try to make your carbs MOSTLY come from veggies. I know how hard it is to kick a coffee/sugar habit.. everyone has bread/pasta weaknesses but not me! Mine is coffee or cookies! =)

And Franklin, don't feel picked on. I re-read this thread and in our attempts to keep everyone on track, we may sound a little bossy (we're girls, we're supposed to! lol) so congrats for the things you ARE doing fabulously!

With it being Valentine's Day and not being able to partake in the usual heart box of chocolates, I decided to try the cocoa, splenda and heavy cream, and I was actually quite surprised. I mixed 1 tbsp of cocoa, 2 packs of splenda and 1 tbsp of heavy cream. I counted it as 6 carbs though, but I'm still good for the day. Tonight is gonna be a light dinner I can already tell, but needless to say, it was pretty darn yummy! I promise not to make it a habit though.
