  • Looking for some buddies.

    Hello!

I just started back after a 2 1/2-3 year absense. I had great success the first time around...losing 60 pounds in 7 months. I did this with no cheats, drinking my water and climbing the rungs. Then I started playing mind games with myself and I think I got scared that I might actually succeed. I also fell into the "this one time won't hurt" cycle. Then before you knew it I was fell into the carb abyss. Now I am back...gained it all back plus 4 more. Feeling very sore and dragged down. My migraines are back...my fibramyalsia...my planter fascitis...my hip pain.

I started today. I weighed in at 241. Hoping to do a clean induction.

    Breakfast:
    Egg fried in Olive oil

    Lunch:
    Chicken Taco Caesar Salad

    Dinner:
    Chicken Taco Caesar Salad
    Green beans

Anyhow...I am looking for some buddies who have started recently to check in here on the list daily. We can support each other. Discuss any questions anyone has. Post our menus if we want. Whoever is on first can start the new post of the day. Maybe something like 'Buddy check in - Tues' Looking forward to making some new buddies.

    Any takers??

        Re: Looking for some buddies.

my first day went pretty good. i walked for about 20 mins today, did 10 squats, 45 ab crunches, and drank about 100 ozs of water. i took in about 18 carbs. i am a total caffiene junky, and drank about 10 ozs of a diet soft drink, but that's the only thing i felt like i couldn't give up cold turkey. but normally i drink anywhere from 4 to 5 20oz bottles of soda, so i'm not beating myself up for drinking the 10 ozs. hopefully by the end of this week i can completely wean myself off the caffiene. i bought some diet rite soda in 8 oz cans that once i'm totally off caffiene and want a pop to drink for dinner, i can have that and not feel any guilt.

i am on vacation this week so that makes it a little easier to start back since i don't have to be at work and fight off the pains of induction flu. i have a little bit of a headache tonight, but i expected that.

hope your day went well, and we can chat soon.

          Re: Looking for some buddies.

          Good morning monie!

Sounds like your first day went really well! Mine did as well. Maybe you will be one of the lucky people whose body can tolerate the artifical sweetners in the diet pop. It has been known to stall quite a few people. Last time I was one of the lucky ones.

Was very tired yesterday and had a 2 hour nap...which is something I never do and also went to bed at 8pm. Woke at 10:30 and had a migraine darn it! Was hoping I would get away with no induction flu. Hopefully it doesn't last more than 2-3 days. Once I make it through that it starts being much easier and I start feeling more in charge.

I am amazed at the reaction our bodies have as we come off of the sugars and refined carbs. If anything the reaction to the withdrawals should strengthen our resolve to stick to this way of life.

I lost count on my water yesterday...but drank either 9 or 12 cups of water.

          Be a good day!

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

              I am not an expert!
When I started the Atkin's diet years ago( lost 43 pounds after 3 months then dropped it. only now years later, to regain it all and then some) I too had bad Migraines! They seemed to be worse when I started induction. A friend sent me to MedicineNet.com. there I learned that most cheeses (expecially those with high Tyramine..found in all sharp cheeses) and high Nitrates found in all processed meats and High Sulphites in Cola are huge trigger's as well as Smoking and other's.
Once I reduced and/ or eliminated my intake of the trigger's I am down to 1 or 2 every 6 months...
I am starting Induction on 6/7/2008, I am starting with a light, smooth &
steady workout routine for a week first (4th day so far so good) as I reduce the Non-Induction foods in my house and stock and plan my meals for day 1 to 14.
I look forward to your progress and the other's that reply to you!

                Re: Looking for some buddies.

Wow Bill, I know what you mean. I stopped drinking sodas and was eating meat I prepared for myself and then one day, my husband brought home from the butcher some hamburger patties. I said "Something is in these" and he said he couldn't taste anything. It made me feel horrible and I actually had to go to bed early. He went and asked the butcher and they said they put "flavoring" in it. Whatever the **** that is.

                Good luck on your journey!

I think I know what the **** is? most butcher's I found out use a product called ACCENT. it is MSG in it's purest form..The number 1 enemy of sufferer's like us. It's overly used at some chinese restaurant's. most feel sick right after eating this product.

                    Re: Looking for some buddies.

                    Welcome aboard!
I am pretty sure it is just the induction flu. I ate whole foods yesterday...except for caesar dressing and cayenne powder.
Very interesting note about the Accent though. I did not know that. I will concur that MSG is a trigger for the migraines though.
Last time I was on Atkins I had NO migraines for the whole 7 months I was on it. Minus the first week. Also all my other aches and pains went away. I know my body is sensitive to refined foods.

                      Thanx for the Welcome!
I am sure your right.(induction minor sickness) I too hope to releave the aches and pains and general bad health I am in now! I started the diet the first time when the nation was at it's peek in the frenzy. Eating out was easy, most carried Atkin's menu's/ Shopping was easy! my supermarket had an Atkin's isle.
everyone I knew was on it..so support was easy.
Things are diffrent now..going to be more of a "challenge" with those convienences dried up. and with middle age upon me now,
And I know I will have to practice portion control..too many calories from some meats and other's will slow/stall my Ketosis.
But it's a challenge I look forward to!

                        Re: Looking for some buddies.

Well if it works for you like it worked for me in the past you will feel different. My staple when eating out was caesar salad hold the croutons with a chicken breast on it. And I am one of the lucky ones that can have diet soda. So add a diet coke to that and I never felt deprived. Even at MacDonald's. Mind you I never abused the diet pop thing. Never bought any to have in the house because I knew that then I would not drink my water as well. Last time I had trouble eating enough and keep ing my calories up...was satisfied with a lot less. So hoping a little of that comes your way...LOL!

You may find you may lose better this time around by not having the Atkin's isle and eating more whole foods. That would be exciting!

Mind you, that was last time and things may have changed. We will see. Looking forward to the journey with you all!

Yeah Bill, it must have been accent. That stuff is horrible. I won't eat those any more. I try to stay away from most processed meats and the only weiners I will eat are Hebrew National. I will eat bacon but usually in quiche or in this certain spinach dish.

You guys sound like you have the right attitude. You are going to do great.

Great that you have a staple..I don't have a staple..frankly I would get bored with anything I ate almost everyday! or worse..*EGGS*
LOL when I stopped Atkin's the first time it was the egg's that I didn't mind missing. Till this day havn't had an egg for breakfast!

oh which remind's me..guess what's turning up in used book stores, Flea's and yard sales? Atkin's cookbooks! they are old but very valuable and I think the most I paid for one was the book written by his wife..$1.00!
have about 12 now and it's really helping with the meal planning. everyone of them has an induction section!

so many little goals to set now. but with you and the other's I've read here. I am very motivated!

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home Here is a website for you billbazz. Yes she has eggs for breakfast but she makes a lot of quiches. These can be made ahead of time. Cut into serving portions and put in the freezer. Make a few different kinds and it will help cut the boredom. There is any supper leftovers...flax cereal...the list really is endless. Especially as you climb the rungs. I can't do too many plain eggs myself. Though tonight for dinner my DD wanted a toasted ham/egg/cheese sandwich. Boy did it ever look good in the pan....the cheese melting over the egg and the ham pieces on top. I think I will be having an omelet tomorrow...LOL! Though I did buy the stuff for flax cereal today. We will see.
