Re: 11 days in and excited

i think what everyone is trying to say is that during "induction" you should follow the exact woe in order to get your body into ketosis! all the natural foods listed in the induction list will allow you to successfully achieve this goal! the cream cheese, heavy cream should not be eaten everyday as they can cause stalls not for all, but most people. i personally have done atkins over a million times and have only noticed when i followed induction EXACTLY as dr. a describes in 2002 dandr (this forum basically follows it so read stickys) i lost the most weight i know it's hard in the beginning but trust me, you will be shocked and happy with the results!!!!!!!

i know you can do this.... finish up those shakes and start a clean induction and watch the magic begin ... this board has also gotten me through the tough times, everyone here is SO amazing and SO helpful!!!

good luck to you and don't hesitate to ask ANY questions!

    *hugs*

Re: 11 days in and excited

Thanks Sirene, I should have known posting in the induction part wouldn't be the best place since I don't have the book yet (still packed in a box somewhere) and I already started the diet from memory. I know I'm not doing it perfect but I am losing weight. I have also been in ketosis and gotten to the stage of not being hugry, but I need to test myself to see if after the shakes I am still there. I will do that later. I have mostly beein eating right until I bought them. I have done mostly meat and eggs to the point I was getting diarhea and that is why I brought something else in. Of course I have been having salad too.
Anyway 11 lbs in 2 weeks I must have been doing something right even though I didn't have the book to be exact. Thanks though.

Evie ~ 11 pounds in two weeks is great! If you're within your carb limit and the shakes aren't causing you to crave or eat anything else off Induction plan then you're doing well. If you notice things are going south though, you might want to cut back on them or eliminate them altogether for a while. Just my suggestion.

I respect that, I also respect the others trying to help me follow induction rules.

I think what got me doing the shakes also was that I kept reading about people having them, (must have been off induction) and it got me looking into it since I was having trouble with fats at the time and since I was moving. I moved this past weekened and was too busy most of the time to eat. Anyhow, I onlyhad 4 shakes and it gave me some nutrients while I had my vitamins packed etc. Thanks for the reply.

I didn't read the rest of the posts or the argument about the shakes, but to answer your above question of "1g of sugar and 4g's of carbs is too much?"

carbs should be made up of veggies and other stuff listed in the book.

But if you're losing, and you like the shakes, more power to you. ever tried the atkins shakes?

Oh, I totally understand about moving and eating issues. I've moved soooo many times and it's a total plan killer. I'm doing it again in about a week (hopefully for the LAST time) and I'm gearing myself up for it. Stay on plan...stay on plan...well as much as possible anyway.

Even worse is that I'm going to visit my sister for a week at the end of July. That is going to be the true test!

Re: 11 days in and excited

Well first off, welcome to ADBB!

So, IMO, I think the ingredients in that shake look fine. Sucrolose is Splenda and is allowed on Induction. I have been looking for a shake myself and that one actually looks good. There are also protein shakes that you could look into...but they are rather expensive and most of them contain whey or soy which you would have to wait to have until OWL.

During Induction I like to be squeeky clean and stick to things I know work for me. I like to get a good solid weight loss during those 2 weeks. Then, I chose to stay on Extended Induction (I have a decent amount to lose) which is when I will experiment with somethings that I wouldnt want to have the first 2 weeks.

BUT if you are happy with the weight you have lost thus far and the shakes do not trigger cravings, I say have 'em!

Just keep in mind that if your weight suddenly stalls, or you even gain...I would try eliminating the shakes first.

Also, don't forget to count the shakes towards your your sweetner allotment for the day

And very lastly....Good luck!!! I am so glad you are having success and I look forward to reading more of your posts!

Hey there. Welcome and congratulations on our success so far. I have never heard of the shakes or know anything about them. With that said I have had people say stay away from cool whip. I eat about 2 tablespoons a day which is 2 carbs, and have lost 19lbs so far. I think that different things work for different people MY motto is if your successful then keep doing what your doing. IF you notice that your weight loss stalls or slows down maybe you should not have the shakes for 2 weeks and see if it makes a difference. Then you will know for sure if it is truly the shakes. Good luck too you... (just my opinion, no expert)

I know for me, from personal experience, the shakes and the bars and stuff like that does not help me. I may lose initially but I stop again . you might be able to eat them, but the real food is the way to go. You need to learn how to eat for the rest of your life and getting your nutrition out of shakes is not a healthy way to eat for the rest of your life.

If you are mixing it with milk it can not possibly be only four carbs either as a cup of 2 percent has 13 grams carbs , and even non fat I believe has about 11 at least, so it may be the mix has 4 but if you are adding milk , it is getting up to your induction level of carbs just from the shake. If your drinking ready made, that is differant, but the carb count for the mix has to be added from the milk if it is powder.

You need to learn what your body does well on and feed it good healthy pure food. Not shakes and bars and even a lot of processed meats. The healthier you eat, the better you will do on and it will be a healthy way to live.

You have to look at Atkins as a way of life, I know I can never go back to the way I used to eat. I have "tried" Atkins over thrity times and one thing I know for sure is how NOT to do it. I had to get very real this time and make some hard decisions, and not everyone has to do it as strict as me, but I have had to learn through all my attempts and finally found what I had to do.

Slim fast is supposed to be its own plan and it is not really part of Atkins. There are no shake police that are going to make you get off the diet if you drink shakes, lol, but , to make this a way of life, a way you can eat forever you need to follow the book and eat real foods.

I just urge you to reconsider the shakes, I have never once stayed on plan when I have used those kinds of food replacements.

If it is something you do not want to give up and that is your right, then I honestly do wish you the best and hope that for you they are not a problem. They may not be.

I understand processed food isn't the best for anyone dieting or not. I am working into eating better one step at a time I guess. Before the diet I was eating allmost all processed foods, no fresh veggies tons of fried, donuts, deep fried stuff etc. I think the shakes are certainly a step in the right direction from that because they at least provide some nutrients and it isn't fried. I do appreciate your opinion but, you have to look at the whole picture and for me... I started tracking food when I was eating wrong just to see how wrong it was. I was getting hardly any nutrition at all.

It's already mixed so it is what the label says it is.

I really do want this as my ultimate goal. Right now the goal is to loose a bunch of weight however can. Once I see that happening, I will start to tweak things. I am seeing there are lots of great cooks out there who have paved the way for us to be creative with low carbing and I have booked a few sites to use. One is especially healthy. I will add the links to this post so you can see I am looking at this as a way of life.

You have to look at Atkins as a way of life, I know I can never go back to the way I used to eat. Well this is my 3rd time. And the first two times I did induction by the book and pretty much stayed on an extended induction. I lost 35 lbs and stopped because I got bored with eating this way. The difference this time is that I am not being quite as strict. Yes I am in ketosis and losing good. But as I said I found some recipes and am trying to make this plan my own so I will stick with it.

Slim fast is supposed to be its own plan and it is not really part of Atkins. There are no shake police that are going to make you get off the diet if you drink shakes, lol, but , to make this a way of life, a way you can eat forever you need to follow the book and eat real foods.
Well how bout we call this "my plan"? I joined here because I am doing Atkins 98% But I have made a few tweaks partly because I have no book (packed for now) and partly because I color outside the lines and if it works then it is good. If I stall or start craving sweets or carbs then I will know to change it. Slimfast does offer a plan, but just because they offer a plan doesn't mean the shakes can only be used for it. It is a tool and can help anyone trying to get quick meal with nutrition at low cal low carb low sugar.

I just urge you to reconsider the shakes, I have never once stayed on plan when I have used those kinds of food replacements. Stephie
Again, if they stall me, I will. And as for the bars you mentioned... they are way high in carbs and so I didn't buy them. I too hope the shakes continue to be ok for me but I will be the first to say so and stop them if not.

These are sites I am checking out.

apparently the sweetener in the shakes you are having is sucralose...which I believe is splenda...

Re: 11 days in and excited

I didn't know there were 3 pages, so I posted that last post about sucralose before reading the above few posts...but...at this point I have read the entire thread and this is my opinion:

A lot of people have had problems with processed meal replacements such as the shakes. I drink the atkins shakes, haven't had any in a few days (they're hella expensive) and they stall me, but they're a good thing to pound down after a workout to get post-workout protein. I understand they're not ideal. But what is more convenient? Throwing a shake in my gym bag...or bringing a chicken breast to eat in the gym lobby?

They make me stall, so when I'm on a stall for a long time I go completely without them so I can start losing again...but sometimes I don't mind stalling for a little while if it means lightening up a little so I don't get frusterated.

I think you should keep the shakes, because you said that the last couple of times you tried you quit because you didn't like the food variation. That being said, I think the people on this site really just want to help you succeed as much as possible..but some people on this site need to realize that doing a modified atkins diet, is better than not doing a diet at all. If something makes someone stick with it, then keep doing what you're doing...cause anything is better than quitting!

*disclaimer* yes im aware that drinking sweet things can make you crave more sweet things and in turn end up making you quit. but sometimes they can KEEP you from eating more sweet things and ultimately making you stick with it.

Re: 11 days in and excited

the only reason I posted was let you know my experiences with them . After between thirty five and forty times on Atkins, some for as short as a few days, some a few weeks, I have learned alot and I had problems with them for what was said in carbless post, it keeps my sweet tooth allive. I had to give up all sweetners this time around and my caffiene, and it was a hard and tough decision. It has worked for me and I am thrilled with the results.
I just worry when someone wants to lose weight however they can, and does not worry what they are doing to lose it. You have to make sure you are eating right when you are losing so you do not lose muscle.
I absolutely mean no disrespect, but I have done " my " plan at least ten of the times I failed, so I am just speaking from my own experience and trying to help you to not make the same mistakes I made.
In no way do I mean to put you down or argue, I just hate to see someone do what I did if I can help them to not make my mistakes.
I really truely do hope they work for you and that you have a better experience then I did !! I honestly just wanted to help, and did not mean to upset you.
