  • For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Welcome and Happy 4th of July!

By Monday, the holidays will be over for the ending duration of the summer. So any temptation that you do have should be long gone by now because there will be no holidays to look forward to, unless you're the unlucky person that has to go to a party where all they have is pizza to eat. And if you resist the temptation, then you're a better person than I'll ever be. But of course, I'm sure by that time, our cravings will be long gone and we will be seeing those inches and pounds melting off.

Monday will start a new life for us, one that is healthier, more active and most of all, the bonus of losing those few extra pounds that we need gone. So who is with me? Who will start Atkin's on Monday and stick it through for the rest of your life?

I've realized so many things after I've began and failed countless number of times. The willingness to lose the weight is there, but the motivation just goes away after a while and to me, that's due to my parents being the way they are. I no longer listen to what they have to say to me because every word out of their mouth is something negative. And as for me, I'm doing this for myself, no one else, not even my parents. Losing weight is a choice and it's something that I want to do.

So, I will start a clean induction on Monday and keep at it for 2 weeks to see how much I lose. By the 14th day, I will decide whether or not I stay on extended or if I should go on to OWL.

This time we can do it! With the help and motivation and kind words from each other, we will pull through and kick some butt!!

    Who's with me?

We will call each other the Atkinites, yes? Because that's what I was before! =)

Stay strong, stay focused and see all of you on Monday for a brand new start!!!!

Be sure to post your progress daily, whether it be in a journal, or simply in this forum. I'll be updating it weekly, so we don't get lost in the many posts that we do make. It will have the week starting day on it, and of course the name of our little clan, Atkinites.

    Can't wait til Monday!!!

Awww, thank you sweetheart! =) You are going to look just as fabulous, yourself. =) And you know who to go to if you need any help whatsoever, okay?

Well, goodmorning everyone. I'm hoping more people respond to this. We don't necessarily have to have started on Monday, you know? It's nice to have a safe place where you can go to, to vent about your day and everything like that. And you will know that there are people there for you who will want to help you along the way. Having a buddy group is awesome and it's what has helped me the last few times I've done this. =)

Monday awaits! Today, I prepare my food for it, since I have to work tomorrow. I mean, I don't mind staying up til midnight tomorrow night, cooking food, but I like my sleep. Heh heh. Hope to hear from more of you soon...

        Welcome back, Bekka
It looks as if you are well organised and raring to go !!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

          Hi Bekka
I am totally with you. I fell off the induction wagon on the 4th and I'm ready to do a clean one starting Monday. My problem is with alcohol- my BF and I like to drink- and also with getting enough variety with what I eat, and with committing to exercise. I'm trying, though, and I'm trying not to get frustrated.
anyways, good luck with yours. I'll check in to see how you are doing - maybe we can trade some foods/ snacks/ recipes?

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

For some strange reason, I want to start tomorrow instead of waiting til Monday. I have no idea why I feel that way, but I do. I guess it's because I can't wait to start that I just want to do it already and get in to ketosis and everything. Man, I am never eating junk food again. I feel so sick and tired from it right now, it's not even funny. My friend's party was boring anyway and losing weight is a lot better than eating junk food any day. =)

So, I guess tomorrow will be the day, yes? Whoever started things on a Monday anyway, right?

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

              Goodmorning, =)

I'm a bit upset that one of my buddies hasn't come online to send me a PM or anything like that. He had made a promise to me that we would do this together this time. I hope he will stop on by soon enough so I know he's doing okay. =) But, I am glad that I have Jen riding along side with me on this wonderful journey of ours.

So, today marks day 1 for me on this new journey to becoming thin. Sure, I've done this so many times before, but I feel much different this time than I did last time I started. I'm not longer in that much of a stressful environment and I'm happy for that. I don't have that temptation that I did last time. Last time I was working in a grocery store and you could smell everything from a mile away. Now, I don't have that, instead, I have a dark breakroom with loads of movies to watch while I wait for a call. lol. It's pretty nice, actually. =)

I just had breakfast and I'm about ready to get my clothes on and leave for work, but here's my menu for the day.

Breakfast- 2 beef patties with cheddar cheese
              Scrambeled Eggs

Snack- Tuna Salad (with celery, onion, pickle and lettuce, plus mayo, yum!!!)

Lunch- Chicken Salad with homemade Balsimic Vinnegrete.

Snack= Chicken pieces from the kebobs we had last night with a few green beans.

Dinner- Steak and 6 Asparagas Spears

Hope to hear from some of you soon enough? I don't want to go at this alone again. =(

                Bekka,

I am with you on this all the way. I have been trying to get in the right frame of mind and am struggling with it. I truly believe that the secret to Atkins is not what you eat but how you deal with adversity...I, like most on this board eat refined carbs and sugar products to counteract negative feelings. To say stop doing that is easily said but very tough. The reason is that those drugs work for me. To binge out on Ice cream and Pizza helps me to escape whatever situation is bothering me. It can be something as simple as not finding my car keys in the morning or a fight with my wife. I am an all or nothing type of person so if I fail one morning I will give up for the day. This of course is one of the problems I must overcome. The thing is I have no idea how to do it. I have given serious thought lately to taking out a loan and checking into Rogers Memorial Hospital in Wisconson that specializes in male eating disorders as I am really at a loss on how to correct and change these habits. With all that said I am going to give this everything I have and Bekka, thanks for the push. I will call you tonight.

I am starting today too! I quit smoking last May, learned to decorate cakes (perhaps not my wisest decision...lol), and packed on the weight. It's time to shed this extra burden... Life is tough enough now days... This is my first time trying Adkins, so wish me luck!

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

This was exactly what I've been looking for!! I have pegged today as my re-start date, where I'm going to do it right!

I was stumbling through induction for 3 weeks!! Constant <what I felt> were cheats, even though they were "legal foods" if they had been moderate.. for the other rungs anyway!

I fell off around Sat. night, and had my splurge day yesterday with all intentions of starting today!! I stayed up until midnight cooking LoL...

I'm already struggling, but I have determined that I am a food addict in the worst way, and I must remember that 1 donut is too much, and 100 donuts are never enough...

                    Let's do it!

make sure on induction you get at least 12-15 net carbs a day from the salad list:
                      Atkins - Acceptable Foods

You should eat 12-15 net carbs a day of vegetables. These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber: * alfalfa sprouts, * daikon, * mushrooms, * arugula, * endive, * parsley, * bok choy * escarole, * peppers, * celery,* fennel, * radicchio, * chicory * jicama * radishes * chives * lettuce * romaine lettuce * cucumber * mâche * sorrel

                        Hello all -
I just really started a clean induction the past few days. Feels great to be into it now and seeing the el-bee's coming off like they should. Like everyone says in the BB you have to be strict to get results. Exercise is required and good once you get going for a few days. The exercise challenges are good because they make you do it. Fitday.com is also a great tool to plan meals.
This is the best group - I've learned a lot and credit that to some success so far.
Good luck everyone. Post your progress, issues and questions...and answers I know I need them! I'll do the same.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Oh wow!! I wasn't expecting to get so many responses, but I did! Hurrah! Welcome everyone! I'm so glad that we are all here on this journey together. =)

Let me tell you a little story, one that actually happened yesterday....

I had planned on starting Atkin's yesterday because I could not wait any longer to do it. I was that excited about doing it again and losing weight. Well, I work in the Medical Field and you never know what is going to happen in a day, never, SInce I am doing prehospital care as an EMT and all. Well, yesterday, I come to work with my huge jug of water and my prepared food, all ready to rock and roll, when I find out that I will be working off campus instead of on campus like I usually do. On Campus is what I do. I work at this hospital where we transport patients back and forth from one building to the main building for procedures and stuff. And off campus, well, that's just driving all over the place and all.

So, I had no cooler or anything with me, and I left my food in the fridge at work. And I was all bummed out because I knew I wasn't able to eat it or anything.

But suprisingly enough, we got back to station for only a few minutes and I grabbed my salad and the tuna I made. I chowed down on the salad and I ate the tuna around 4:30 or so.

I didn't get to eat the rest of it until 9pm and I was STARVING!!! Seriously.

So much for the first day of doing this way of life, but I stuck through it.

And I think that is motivation enough that you all can do it too. =)

If you need anywhere to run to, just go hear and I'll try to be helpful as possible. Don't forget your veggies and your water!

                          Kick some butt today everyone!

I felt the same way about today, until this morning came around But the pastries are still sitting untouched by me in our break-room.

I'm more like a thousandth-restarter, so its not that I dont know what I should be doing, I'm just a bad girl. I think some live support will be GREAT this time around.
