I'd love to know good recipes for beef jerky too as I just bought a food dehyrdrator!

Re: what do you usually take to work for snacks/lunch?

You can use any meat. I have used hamburger that was at least 85% lean. London broil is probably the easiest meat to use. Put it in the freezer for about half an hour to firm it up a bit. Use a very sharp knife to cut it into the thinnest strips you can. I usually shoot for about 1/8 inch. Place the strips in a bowl with whatever low carb/good tasting marinade you wish to use. I use hotsauce, a few drops of liquid smoke, and an ounce or two of cooking wine. They really don't need to marinate long because you aren't trying to tenderize, just add flavor. Place the strips on your dehydrator rack and sprinkle seasonings on them. I usually use adobo, black pepper, and crushed red pepper. Any seasoning you want will work, and the dehydrating process really makes it stick. Put your dehydrator on 165 and let it go for about two hours. At this point flip your jerky over and blot any standing grease. Leaving the grease on will make your jerky go rancid if you store it for any length of time. Back into the dehydrator for another two hours. After four total hours, you should be done. Put the jerky on a cooling rack for a few hours. If you bag it warm, steam will undo your drying and your jerky will get rancid. There are more recipes at BeefJerkyRecipes.com | Search Free Beef Jerky Recipes . Good luck,

I am on day 9 of induction and below are the snacks I have been bringing to work with me:

Sugar Free (Ready to Eat) Jello Cup
        2 oz cheese
        Pepperoni Chips
Cucumber Salad with Vinegar and Oil

Don't forget olives, celery slices with cream cheese, cucumber 'sandwhiches' with meat and cheese on top of a slice of cucumber...

i usually bring a big chef salad and add other veggies too like sliced mushroom, peppers, cucumber, etc... with sliced cheese and turkey and or bacon... with Ranch Dressing.

Sorry Bama, Jello is a no-no on induction. It's not a frankenfood, but it is not on the approved induction list. I'm not a purist, and ate nuts during induction. I've never had a problem with any sweeteners or caffeine either. Everyone is different though. It's your call on the clean induction though.

because it has more than the allotted amount of vegitables. I usually lose weight better when I eat at least the maximum allowable veggies. The menu I posted was probably more optimal on rung one-the extra veggies rung.

Also-- it has long been debated, but atkins shakes are a no-no to some.

Jello is OK on induction in theory. But the sweetener aspartame is not. The sugarfree jello you buy in stores are sweetened with aspartame. You can make you own using gelatin. That would be legal.

I like to make Chef Salads for Lunch. Mayo on the side. They are very filling.
Or hard boil eggs and some veggies to dip.

Re: what do you usually take to work for snacks/lunch?

I typically bring last night's leftover's for lunch the next day. I used to bring pepperoni and/or cheese for additional snacks, but I've found that I'm not as hungry during the day on this WOE and typically just have the leftover lunch. Of course, I have two eggs and 4 slices of bacon most days for breakfast which helps. If I'm really hungry, I'll snag a packet of peanuts from the vending machine (no sugar), but then I'm not on Induction anymore.

I also keep a 16-ounce bottle of water by my computer and sip from it all day. I try to take a sip every time the computer is processing something, and fill it up 2-3 times during one of my frequent bathroom visits. I think the water helps curb the appetite.

I've read your blog (which I enjoy), and think we are in a similar field -- I work in prepress for a commercial printer so I can sympathize with your situation. Good luck!

I kind of thought, after posting that, that the Jell-o was debatable mainly due to the type of sweetner. But it satisfies my sugar/desert raving so well and I am on day 9 of induction and have already lost 10 pounds (Not to mention I started my monthly girl thing two days ago which the book says, if I am remembering correctly, that that can slow weight loss and not to get disscouraged). So as much as I wanted to do a clean induction I am willing to let the Jell-o slide.

Thanks for keeping me in check though it is much appreciated!

The shakes are not legal because not all of the ingredients are on the list of induction acceptable foods. You can still eat 15g of net carbs from veggies during induction without going over the allotted amounts. I have done this repeatedly without even eating veggies at every meal.

I agree. What i meant was that I lose more when I get the max veggie amounts, and because of this I sometimes go over board and end up going over the max. I am on my second day of a good, clean, induction, and have found ways to get over 12g net carbs of veggies without going over the 2 cup salad, 1 cup other, limit.

I had almonds on my induction. I'm a bad, bad boy! I still lost 18 pounds on induction. I'm not a purist by any means. I keep my net carbs under 20, but I eat forbidden foods. It works for me, so I'm happy. If it works for you and it makes this WOE possible, have at it. Some of the more zealous Atkineers (I do respect them), would probably cringe at this advice, but this works for me. Keep strong, your induction is almost over and you are doing great!
