  • Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

    Hi group,

The hellmann's mayo would be a good idea if I liked mayo... ahh well.

So...I'm not feeling very well. I just can't kick this "blah" feeling. I hear other people talking about being energized and feeling great. I'm just not there. I'm also feeling hungry during the day. I snack on cheese, veggies, or ham rolled with cream cheese when I get hungry outside of meal time. I've been writing down my food; it's very close to 20 carbs and by the book. Yes, my water intake is now gigantic. 10 lbs gone, but no energy. I want to go to the gym, but I'm exhausted.

    Thoughts?

People like the Hellman's over say Miracle whip because it does not contain the HFCS also, I think.
I will stay on my diet. I will get healthy and lose weight. There is nothing I could eat or drink that tastes as good as how I feel at this moment on this WOE ~ nothing!

I never ate mayo -- I always had Miracle Whip but since I've started this plan I use it on just about everything. I dip radishes, zucchini (something else I wouldn't eat before) meat it's really surprising to me.

As far as you having no energy - the 1st time I went through induction I had a couple real energy days and then went through about a week and a half where I could hardly move --- I've read others have this same problem.....it's part of the induction flu....it will pass. You'll have to force yourself to get up and do something, but it will pass!!

So about 3/4 through induction and I'm still going strong. Seem to be holding at about 7-8 pounds lost, but I'm not going to get discouraged. I realize I might lose waist size and not lose scale weight.

Had one of those weird halfway between sleep and awake dreams last night. Dreamt that I gorged myself on Taco Bell, but then I was disappointed because I had blown my induction. I guess if I'm dreaming in the right mind set then I'm doing ok.

Are you getting 'most' of those net carbs from your veggies? If not then changing and eating soem of the more nutritious ones instead of for example lettuce (aka chewy water ) might give you more 'bang' for your carbs.

If this does not work then maybe you need to follow Dr Atkins advice in DANDR

Welcome Back: Your Old Friend Energy
The next thing that will strike most of you is a sense that you've latched onto some misplaced, long-lost energy level. Typically, this feeling arrives around about the third or fourth day. Some people experience a slight euphoria. Most simply find they no longer have to suffer those dreary, weary periods that used to hit them a couple of times a day.

That said, there are a few people who experience fatigue or light-headedness during their first week doing Atkins. Most often this means that the process is going too fast for their particular metabolism-they're losing weight too fast, losing water and certain minerals too fast, and their bodies can't keep pace with these quick changes. One sign is ascent weakness: You feel weak walking up stairs. These reactions can be aggravated by hot weather, when you are already losing minerals through sweat, or by taking a diuretic. Obviously, drinking lots of water is essential.

Usually, I advise patients who have these problems to slow down the weight loss. They should add another helping of vegetables to their evening meal or one or two ounces of nuts or seeds. Although their bodies would almost certainly adjust during the second week, there isn't any good reason for feeling washed out and sickly for even one day. After the symptoms abate, go back to the lower level of carb intake.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Just checking it, this is what, day 9? Day 10? Last night and today have been a whirlwind for me, my son got injured at basketball practice and I have spent 12 out of the past 22 hours waiting in clinics, ers, and xray waiting rooms But he is fine, he got casted up today and life will shortly return to normal. On the way home last night at 2 am we were ravenous so we stopped at Mcdonalds for burgers...bunless for me, TYVM, and today I packed snacks for both of us. BUT, omg, last night in the waiting room I almost ate chips! It was completely unconscious too, I was sitting, bored, so I looked for food. My son ate them all

Weigh in was good this morning, 189.8! Helllooooo 180s, so good to see you again!

So as of this morning I'm down 2 more pounds. It's good to see since I didn't have any change for about 4 days. I guess I'm one of those that can't have Aspartame. I had tried having a cup of Crystal Light with dinner and that's when I seemed to stall, so I dropped it and two days later I'm losing weight again. Water's ok for the rest of the day (48 oz down already as of this post,) but I wish I there was some sort of drink alternative that I could have with dinner. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah my thoughts are what kind of multi vitamin are you taking? Hopefully a liquid one and yes they do not taste so great....make sure you take advantage of all of the available food that your able to eat at the stages your in. don't try to do induction longer or modify what Atkins says you are to do.

Also, after a couple of months on the diet please do yourself a favor and see a doctor so he can make sure your good and healthy.

Make yourself a big pitcher of water with cucumber and limes! Its more refreshing and tasty than regular water.

I use to drink 4 - 6 cans of pop a day but now I can hardly drink a 1/2 can - my tastebuds have changed since I first started this. I drank Diet Rite instead of Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke but that was a personal preference, when I was on WW they recommended Diet Rite. I drank it for years it's strange to have a 6 cans in the garage that just sit there! LOL

Instead of soda - drink water, plain water - that will flush out all the nasties and the salt you put into your body. Find something other than salt to use on veggies or other foods - Tone's has a Vegetable seasoning that is real good and no salt or MSG added. Watch the MSG also in foods - that is another killer! If your clothes feel loose I'd take that as a good sign -- stay off the scales until after induction -- it's not your friend!! Some people weigh several times a day -- for what reason I have no clue! I weigh every other Monday morning -- I started on a Monday so I weigh on that day still. Good luck - you'll get the hang of what you can and don't want to eat!!

And yes - Hellman's is a brand of Mayonnaise. It has a slight amount of sugar in it but it doesn't put me into a stall so I continue to eat it. There are some people who make their own mayo but I've never been able to get it right.
imagood1 I hear you on the pork r, cheesee and d/coke have been having cheesee cooked in my food but not snacking on anything this week, no hunder pangs as well.

Tom visited last week so cant really blame him..lol I think it was the pork rinds. I've not been able to get any exercise in this week between the weather and not pushing myself but i've not cheated once!

I bought some smoked sausaged yesterday which said 0 carbs on the pack and down the bottom it said "carbohydrates of which sugars" not sure what to make of that..theres no sugar in or wheat in the sausages...

Scales Grrr I spent almost £50 on a scale that cant work, I tried it on my husband and his weight keeps changing, will be exchanging the scale for a £2.50 one ...lol

I am looking forward to the weekend (mine starts today) need to catch up on my housework and do some studying.. BTW what are/is MSG??

                        Happy Atkins everyone

hi Origamifrog, I have sparkling water with a droop or two of lemon juice (sometimes i grate a bit of rind in to the water) with a t/spoon of splenda..I can't drink much of it but find it kills the cravings for anything naughty to drink.

your last post was so spot on I've been on induction for almost two weeks and cant see any weight loss on the scales but can definetly feel a difference with my clothes...

I am still here. I have just been so depressed - I think the reality of not getting into nursing school is setting in. I was so sure that I would get in that I do not have a back up plan. I know that everything will work out and it will be ok - but right now it just sucks.

In addition to that bit of news - I still have not lost ANY WEIGHT!! I don't understand because I am doing everything correctly. I know I said it before - I am not going to weigh myself again until Monday when the 14 days are over. I am thinking at this point I am probably going to have to do an extended induction. Today I know I am way under calories because I do not feel well - - normally I would be eating chips and treats right now but since I am on Atkins I am just waiting for my mock danish!

Glad to hear that everyone else is going along great....and as a side note Miracle Whip is a salad dressing.....ewww - I am from the South and we were never allowed to eat it!!
