Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

It's day 3 for me and I am hungry!! I can't concentrate to do the work I need to do but I must get it done. How much would coffee set me back? ahh, I don't need to give in.

Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

        Hi -
Thank you for the kind words. I started my day today with a new outlook - and now at almost 5pm I am feeling like I am going to be ok.

foodrehab- I hope that 1 gm of sugar does not mean you have to start over. I noticed the same thing on the sliced ham I got. I thought I checked everything but I missed that. Does anyone know?

Like I said, today was better -- since I have been depressed about not getting into the nursing program I have eaten more - BUT, I have not eaten anything off the induction list. I also went to the library and picked up the DANDR book on CD and I am listening to it again. I was trying to re-read it but I have not been able to concentrate.

Hi everyone -- day 3 and I'm doing real well. I had a great dinner tonight - grilled cheeseburger (1 oz total of cheddar & swiss) with pepperoni on top, cheese chips (microwaved deluxe deli cheese slices), fried radishes and a salad. The fried radishes do taste like fried potatoes...I didn't think they would but it's true. I cut 5 radishes, put 1/2 oz onion in and fried them in butter - they were a little crisp and tasted yummie!! You should try it!

Fried radishes! I've never heard of such a thing. I will look for them at the grocery tomorrow. How cool!

              Hey guys!

I am checking in but I am pooped so I hope this makes sense!

So I woke up today and I am back in ketosis! I was in the negative colour yesterday and I am in the pinks today! YAY! Food was hard to get in today. I am in the throws of the Induction Flu. I have leg cramps and I am so exhausted and have no appetite. I ate chicken with steamed veggies for lunch. Eggs in the morning and I had some bacon for dinner. I am about to go to bed and am going to weigh myself in in the morning!

              Have a great night everyone!

Leg crams during Induction are usually caused by a very low electrolyte level. Are you taking a multivitamin? If you are, supplement it with potassium, magnesium and calcium, and the cramps will go away.

In response to day 4/5 since Monday the 16th!

It's great to hear all the great advice and support from everyone! I should get online more because it is so very worth it to hear the positive comments. I have had THE most stressful couple of days I have ever had to deal with. (not related to induction) It has been even more challenging to stick with induction in hard times. However, I have, and am very convinced this will only be easier. I stepped on the scale today and lost 8 pounds. I'm impressed. I really need to be going to the gym more, and drinking more water. Tonight I was so tired of food. I didn't want to look at another egg! I have a head ache, but can't blame one specific thing for it. Sorry if I'm rambling.

                  One question for the group:
Any thoughts on fiber tablets? Those big nasty round disks (fiber choice, I think?). Do they have hidden carbs? Are they a benefit or no?

Thank you for listening I'm Michele.. by the way.

Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

good morning -- beginning of day 5 for me - HAPPY 1st DAY OF SPRING -- yea! It's nice to have a couple other re-inductees here with me!!

thegreat08 - I've heard of some people who use fiber pills and yes they have carbs...drinking enough water (at least 64 oz a day) will help keep you regular and if you need additional help 1 Tbsp of flaxmeal will do the trick. I made a flax cookie and have it normally every afternoon or evening (you can have 2 Tbsp a day after induction) and don't have too much trouble. Flax is called Linseed in the UK I believe.

                      Flax Cookie

                      1Tbsp flaxmeal
1 pat butter (I use a little more)
cinnamon, ginger & cloves to taste (I use lots of cinnamon)
microwave for 30 seconds to melt the butter.....stir all together into a thick paste
add 1Tbsp water and 1 pkt of Splenda. Stir and let sit for 1 minute to thicken.
Place mixture on parchment paper and with back of spoon spread it out to make the cookie thin and microwave for 2 - 2-1/2 minutes. They are yummie...you might have to try it more than once to get the taste for it, but I honesly crave them everyday. I miss having 2 each afternoon...can't wait to get off induction again! They really are good and just sweet enough to make you feel good.

I've said it before but I continue to --- drink AT LEAST 64 ounces of plain water a day -- nothing else counts -- just water. Get a large glass or mug with a lid and a straw (or anything that you can keep track of your water in) and keep it full. I drink 30 oz of water with each meal but also get 30 ounces in at least 2 other times during the day....so I'm drinking 150 oz a day. It helps keep you with that full feeling, plus it's good for your skin, your organ function and after awhile even a die hard Diet Rite drinker like myself (no sodium, calories or sugar) doesn't taste good.....I use to drink 4 - 6 cans of Diet Rite a day...yesterday I tried to drink one and ended up pouring it out after 2 gulps! Here is my water mug - I carry it with me at all times:

Here's something I had read but didn't believe at first. Your tastebuds will change as you go through this WOE....things you never liked before will taste wonderful and you'll crave food that you'd never think of eating before. If you try something now and don't like it...wait a few weeks and try it again - you might be surprised!

Have a great weekend everyone. Just remember we're half way through and it didn't kill us!!! LOL I will get on the scale on the 31st and will post my loss. Congratulations to everyone on the pounds that have escaped from their bodies
                      Carole

Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

I've been drinking Fiber 35 shakes for breakfast for a few weeks now, and have continued it during Induction (Day 3!).

Although it has more carbs than I'd like (8g), you can mix it with water and it doesn't taste bad at all. It only has 1g of sugar.

The powder is sold at Whole Foods, www dot fiber35diet dot com

I actually thought about trying this diet before going on Atkins, and it looks absurd. You replace two meals a day with this powder...awful.

Question for the readers: at the end of Day 2 I was ravenous and had a terrible headache. I tried to eat dinner, but was instantly sick. It took about an hour and three Advil to finally subside. Anyone experience this/know how to prevent it/know how to treat?

                        Thanks!

Thank you for all the great advice!
I took a few of the fiber disks because I heard they help with hunger. But since last night, I'm just not hungry anymore. I know, I still eat! I'm trying to figure out what's for breakfast. The thought of eggs or bacon kinda make me queasy. I had made some mock danish's on day one and two, but now they sound nasty.
                          Thanks again!
                          Good luck everybody.

It sounds like everyone is doing fantastic!

                              looseit2009 - 8lbs is great! Congratulations!

So far I have not lost any weight. In fact, I think today is the first day I am in ketosis. I have not cheated at all. Is that normal to take almost 5 days to be in ketosis? I can't tell how my breath smells but my mouth tastes really funny...and it started all of the sudden. Is that what ketosis should be like? I am going to get some ketostix after work, and I have read the signs for ketosis but except for the breath nothing fits me. I know everyone is different but if someone can give me any info I would appreciate it.

Allibabs -- the Fiber 35 shake you're talking about isn't allowed on induction...only the foods listed on the induction list are allowed....doesn't matter how many or few carbs in it --sorry! Here is the list of allowable foods for induction http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781 (What foods can be eaten on Induction?). Here are the rules of induction http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html. Don't sell yourself short -- 2 weeks of clean induction will give you the foundation you need to do well.

The headache you are talking about is part of what is called "induction flu" -- it will be over in a few days....it's your body fighting not getting all the nasty food you use to feed it.
