Hey guys! I'm here! I started on Monday, too. So far, so good...but not in ketosis yet...not sure why. I need to review the induction guidelines.

Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

Hi everyone -- I've been in the yard the past 2 days raking, but it's all done now! yea.

I'm on day 3 of induction -- I'm doing great. I see a couple people asking questions so answer if no one minds

I read the need for snacks...here is what I do: deviled eggs, celery w/cream cheese, deluxe cheese slices (the ones that are thicker than normal American cheese) - cut the slice in 4 pieces and put on parchment paper in the microwave for a minute or little longer -- when they are golden yellow they taste good but I prefer them a little more brown (burnt) then they are crunchy and remind me of a potato chip - also pepperoni slices microwaved for 45 - 60 seconds - same thing - crunch little chip. Radishes are my lifesavers - you can eat 9 and it's 1 carb...that's a lot of chewing folks for 1 little carb! I've heard other people keep egg salad on hand and eat it wrapped in lettuce leaves. I also take chicken salad or this week, turkey salad and use it for lunch or snacks. Cut up some cucumber, a dill pickle sliced...there are so many ways to get your veggies in and call them a snack!

Great news about walking to the train station - and just think how much better you'll look because of the extra effort! I figured out something yesterday, I have been having trouble getting more than 4 - 5 miles on my stationary bike because it's boring...I took a TV tray, (opened it up like I was going to use it but put the legs of it through the handlebars and made a table. I had heard someone had a table on her bike but never figured out how she did it...I think this is what she did. Anyhow, I had my water jug, the DANDR book and the TV remote up there....before I knew it I had read 4 chapters of the DANDR book again and was 10 miles "down the road"....yea me!

It's been raining here and is suppose to rain again tomorrow so I'm going to have to find something indoors to keep me sane...I've really enjoyed the Spring weather we've been having (70 degree weather both days)...maybe I'll get the garage cleaned out.

Way to go everyone -- one pound at a time, one step at a time until we get to our goal.

Pork Rinds are also a good snack. No carbs and are like chips for muching food.

I had a headache I guess that means its starting?!

I wish I would have seen this sooner. I restarted induction last week and was doing so well, until last night after an 18 hour day... too long, I know! and went and caved to somethings that was off the acceptable list so am going to re-restart again tomorrow! just saw that so if you don't mind I'll check in with you all and lend support as well! I probably wouldn't have caved if I was 'in a group' like this.

                Here I go again!

Carole - what a great idea for a table! Sounds like it really helped push through the miles! Keep it up!

Well, I am at the end of day 3 and it has been REALLY tough. I found out on Monday that I did not get into the nursing program I applied for. I am struggling to get through it - I feel like a failure. I have been bursting into tears spontaneously since Monday evening and I have only told one person so far that I didn't get in. Guess what - she brought me a PIZZA tonight - she is the friend that I was trying to get to do Atkins with me! I was very good and did not eat ANY!! It helped that I had eaten lunch at 3 so I wasn't really that hungry at 7. I thanked her profusely and when she left I threw away the pizza in the outside trash (yes, I think I might have been tempted if it were inside, gross, I know!)

Anyway, I am having a horrible, terrible, no good very bad week so far. I can only hope that things will get better as I start to shed a few pounds. I do know, logically, that everything will work out - but for right now I do not feel that way.

I'm on day 3!! How do you know when ketosis starts? I've had the headache and the brain fog...is that it? What other signs?
Oh and great idea about the string cheese! I've been eating Pork Rhines, they have 0 carbs.
                    Great job everybody!!

Hi, Magsmom! I'm sorry about the nursing program not working out.

Look around for something even better for you! Some other path to take.

REALLY good job on the pizza! I'm pretty sure that I would have had trouble doing that!!

I had the headache Sunday night - I semi started on Sunday. Went to sleep and it was gone when I got up. Yay! Felt foggy on Monday and a bit yesterday afternoon, too. Feeling pretty good at the moment!

hi all.....checking in midday. doing good today. day 7 for me, tomorrow will be first weigh in. size 18 jeans are fitting pretty darn loosely....lol. when i dig in the garden i have to watch out for butt crack alerts....lol....as my 8 yo loves to patrol for these...lol.

hey katie....looking forward to your post later today. i was just really bummin yesterday when i got home from work and only one person had posted all day. thanks for checking in.

carole.....glad to see ya too. i assumed you were riding outside not inside.....silly me.

liz....i am so glad you found us....we need stick together in this. i'll be checkin in to see how you do too.

magsmom.....there are many nursing programs. apply again somewhere else if need be. i know lots that have had to apply several times....it can be done. do not be too disheartened. there was a point in my life when i felt so depressed about something, i made a mental change sitting in a parking lot of some stupid fast food parking lot that i was no longer gonna let food rule me. oh my goodness, at the end of the day that day i knew i had conquered the world.....lol. it was such a-ha kinda moment for me. sounds like you may have had one of those last night. i am really inspired by what you did. never give up!

to you guys with brain fog and headache.......i can truly say that this is the first day i havent had either. it was really bad the last 2 days at work.

hope all are keeping on plan today. will check back later.

                              Hi,

I'm on Day 2 of Induction and am very hungry! I didn't remember to pack a snack for work, but I have read some of your suggestions for what to eat and am definitely bringing ample supplies tomorrow.

However, I am in the difficult position of disliking fish, eggs and cheese. Any snack tips that don't involve any of the above?

                              Thanks!

Re: Anyone starting Atkins tomorrow! (16th March)

                                I have a comment and a question.

First, MagsMom, hang in there. You ARE NOT a failure. By going after something like a nursing program is not what failures do. That particular situation just wasnt your personal journey. Don't give up hope! Really wanting something and going for it is what winners do and although life can be hard sometimes, with its ups and downs, it will get better. No one you tell is going to see you as a failure. Just let them share in your disappointment, if thats what you want. Like the friend you told brought you a pizza, she wouldnt have brought a failure a pizza. Don't assume the worst and keep going one day at a time, one foot in front of the other.
                                We're all here for you!!

I also have a question about Atkins. I was just wrapping up day 2 and had the headache and took a nap and thought things were starting. Then I had some romane salad. Later I notice that it had 1 gram of sugar in it. Will that make me start over?
