Re: I hate veggies. Can I do this without them?
When I first joined Mitzi's veggie challenge (eons ago), I knew nothing about the fun ways veggies could be done up, nor did I know about Jicama. Now I kinda follow everyone around like a puppy learning about new ways to fix Jicama, Cauli, and much more! This time, I learned about Chayote, and now am anxious to try that one! I have officially turned my family into mashed cauliflower lovers! (yes, even all 3 of my kids love it!)
This is what I have told my children all of their lives....Your taste buds are supposed to change every 7 years...but you never know which ones are going to change and on which cycle. So your bitter ones could change on year, and then your sweet ones could change 3 years later because they are on different cycles...(don't ask me, I made it up, but it seems to be true rofl) Anyhow, This way I tell them to try something they previously hated, to check and see if any of their tastebuds changed yet....Often it is a nope...Sometimes, its a yes!
My 8 year old even knows that 'someday' he is going to like things that he currently hates now. And its true too...He finds that sometimes he ends up loving something that he previously hated, AND sometimes he just prefers a certain cooking method to other cooking methods for that same veggie.
My mom taught me the basics of this and I apply it to my kids lives now. I mean, when I was younger I hated turnips and turnip greens...I find now that I LOVE the stuff and actually crave it! My kids even liked it, after I took them to a 'pick-ur-own' farm and let them harvest it themselves and then they helped me cook it...it was like 'their' food and they found that they loved it!
Thank you Mitzi for turning me on to so many veggies during that challenge...btw, when is the next challenge? I wanna join up!

It's funny you say that.... my son absolutely turns into a little
when I cook certain vegetables. Little terd!
It's not like I make him eat them. But he throws a fit when he has to smell them.
