  • Day 1 - Did good.. messed up at the store tho

So I started today, Induction Day and it went great and finished it great. However, I really needed to go shopping today to maintain this WOE.

So I went shopping and bought a lot of the recommended and acceptable items. For some reason though I picked up some sliced deli ham and some sliced turkey pastrami. I thought these were decent choices. Then when I got home I was looking over my purchases and then I noticed it... sugar in the deli meats. Learned that lesson.

Should I not eat any of it? I can go different directions as I did buy other stuff but would a slice or two a day really muck it up?

There isn't much out there that you're going to find with NO carbs, so it's not as bad as you think-

When searching for deli meats in the future, just be mindful of the nutrition facts and choose the lesser of all evils

Almost every ham is going to have some (albeit small) added sugar, turkey is a little better about that stuff....just be sure whichever you choose to count those carbs in your daily amounts and don't go over your current limits
3 years ago, I lost 60 pounds in 12 weeks on Atkins.
I have PCOS, which makes my weight REALLY sensitive to carb intake, and I've gained back most of it since going off plan.
    Restarting 02/07/10.

      Ok, thanks.

I just re-looked at the turkey pastrami and it actually is sugar free. I just flipped for a sec when I saw the Ham having sugar. I'm new to this.. hehe. I never cared before.

I'm going to knock this outta the park. I'm so motivated.

        No dextrose?

        What are the ingredients?

Remember ... deli meat is "processed" ... and Atkins is about "whole, unprocessed" foods.

        Processed meats/foods should be limited.

Welp, yep there it is. Dextrose. Listed near the end of the ingredients. Package lists 0% sugar but there's the dextrose. I learned a lesson today and will not be purchasing deli meat in the future.

Ben the laws state that anything less than .5 grams can be listed as 0g. So count it as 1g to be safe. Deli meats in general should be shied away from for the reasons stated above. I eat then as an occasional item, but mostly not. But it is definitely a "processed item".

            I love your motivation...rock on!

              Thanks, Jim.

              Day 2 has begun.

Fried an egg with a few pieces of broccoli and a couple mushrooms thrown in. Then topped with a little cheese. Good thing I enjoy these foods.

I'm a little worried about eating enough salad though. How do you measure a cup of romaine lettuce exactly?

Well, you can chop it up (I presume that's how you eat it?) and stuff it in to a measuring cup.

Me ... I wasn't so concerned about getting the measurements of lettuce as exact as some.

Thanks for that link, MTL. That should come in handy.

Yeah, atkinsgal.. yesterday I kind of guesstimated how much salad was correct amount. I would like to keep it as close to correct as possible tho.

Is there a conversion from cups to like grams or ounces. I'd rather weigh my food like for instance 1/8 cup of onions.. ehh is there a weight for that? What is it like 2oz, no wait, 1oz?
