  • ? re: caffeine and/or splenda

I am on day 5 of Induction. I have always been a fairly heavy diet soda drinker. I've been still drinking plenty during the past 10 months of weight loss. Since starting Atkins however, I have cut back a bit on it and I switched to sodas sweetened only with splenda. The caffeine withdrawal on top of "induction flu" was just too much right now. Really, how much of an effect would 1-2 servings a day have on me do you think? If caffeine is only a no no because it may cause cravings but I don't get cravings or succumb to them, should it be okay in moderation? I do get the artificial sweetener issue...could I be having any withdrawal from nutrasweet? Looks like I'm down 1lbs right now and I'm reading trace or sometimes a little more on the sticks...thanks!

Prior to Atkins I was about 1000cals/day, exercising fairly hard and NOT losing...so here I am to finish the job.

Are you having more than 3 servings of sweetener per day?

I'm sure I was the first 2 days but I realized the carb content and I cut it back to 3 yesterday and only 1 so far today. I'm hoping maybe I can gradually cut it out. The headaches are killing me though.

You should cut back on caffeine gradually ... sugar withdrawals and caffeine withdrawals can be a "killer".

The carb content in what? In the sweetener packets?

The 3 servings limit does not include only the packets.

You should also be counting each serving of soda as a serving of sweetener, if you choose to have sodas.

That's what I've been doing is counting one serving of diet soda with splenda as 1 carb, would that be right?

we have a 3 servings a day sweetner limit along with our 20 net max carb limit.

How is your headache doing? Mine lasted 3 days and I almost quit atkins but day 4 was so quiet and I'm glad I didn't.

2big, today was actually better. Had a kind of stuffed head lethargic feeling, which could be caffeine, induction or good old fashioned sinus issues, who knows. I'm hanging in there though. Did really good on water today. I've only had one diet soda all day. Hadn't caught that 3 day sweetener limit, that's good, I need the structure. I need plenty of rules to follow to keep me on track, lol

atkinsgal, what's sad is that I am re reading the book (read it first years and years ago)...took me a bit to find the stinkin' '02 version. Last night I skipped ahead and read the Induction chapter! Apparently my brain fog kept some of that info from registering. Sigh. I may have to re-re-read, lol....but it's all a process. Thanks so much for helping out. I started fatsecret and have the app loaded and it's all good. I really like it...you can even select what plan you're on. Actually I prefer the fatsecret app over thedailyplate app I'd been using...lots more you can do on it. I have the same username on fatsecret.

As you see how Ch. 11 begins, Dr. A. figured people would do that!

Also ... I've told more people than you can shake a stick at where the 3 sweetener limit is ... so that's why it's right on my fingertips!

Glad you liked the Fatsecret app.

what about coffee? is 1 cup a day with cream and 1 splenda okay or does it need to be de-caff?

Dr Atkins does suggest we drink decaff rather than caffeinated drinks.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
