I microwave it for 10 - 15 minutes (cut side down in a dish with a little water) and then scoop out the strings and sautee them. It gets a better texture that way - more noodley. It's delicious as a spaghetti squash carbonara and as pad thai. And yes, it heats up well. We grow it in our garden and it's sweet and delicious and lasts forever - we just ate our last one from last summer's garden.

It's easy to grow - we plant it on a small hill and then the vines take over a corner of the garden along with other squashes. I don't know about container gardening - I would guess it needs some room because the squash get pretty big. It's a very low-maintenance crop and will continue to produce till the first hard freeze.
