I am completing my first two weeks of induction tomorrow and planning doing extended induction for a couple more weeks. I am not nearly as hungry as I used to be and sometimes find myself wondering if I can just eat an Atkins Day Break bar or Shake instead of a meal. Is that acceptable or a huge no-no? From all the information that I can find, these are on the acceptable foods lists for induction. I am not saying that is all that I will eat for the day, but just if they are OK to replace a meal or two. For example, today I had a Day Break bar for breakfast and for lunch I really could have been satisfied with an Atkins Shake. For dinner I am planning on having left over prime rib and a salad. Bad or Good?

Do you have a copy of DANDR? This is the Acceptable Foods List: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.htmlOriginally posted by sukie7 View PostFrom all the information that I can find, these are on the acceptable foods lists for induction."Get action. Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
I have the New Diet Revolution and the Two Week Essential Book. It doesn't say in the books, but on the Atkins website, these are both listed at acceptable. I have lost a total of 9 pounds in the first 13 days and I have eaten the Day Break bar at least 8 times for breakfast. I seem to still be losing weight eating them and they do not seem to be a problem.

Bad. Sounds like Slim Fast. For example, today I had a Day Break bar for breakfast and for lunch I really could have been satisfied with an Atkins Shake. For dinner I am planning on having left over prime rib and a salad. Bad or Good?
Atkins is about learning to eat whole, minimally-processed foods. Most of your carbs should be coming from vegetables and they should be spread throughout the day, not eaten all at dinner."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
Losing weight is not the only point of Atkins. You need to learn new eating habits, that will help you be healthy and maintain your weight once at goal. There are many ways to lose weight quickly, without learning anything. In my opinion, eating bars and shakes teaches you nothing.Originally posted by sukie7 View PostI have lost a total of 9 pounds in the first 13 days and I have eaten the Day Break bar at least 8 times for breakfast. Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
Two products in one day is not my typical at all! I was just wondering if it was OK. My typical day is like this:
Breakfast: Atkins Bar
Lunch: 3 oz. Hard Cheese, 3 oz. canadian bacon, 10 olives or.... 3 cups salad with 1/4 cut up avocado, about 7 grape tomatoes with oil and vinegar dressing.
Dinner: Bacon and Eggs.... my kids really enjoy breakfast for dinner, or filet mignon with sliced red peppers on the side, or a burger with some sliced cheese , avocado, and mayo with the red peppers or a couple cups of the above salad.
The bars are soooo easy and yummy though!!!! I have hypothyroidism so I have to wait about an hour before I eat in the morning after I take my medicine so I have to take something to work with me and they are so easy to throw in my lunch bag and eat while working.
Maybe I should rethink them. Could I loose more weight if I cut them out?

A bar or shake is never a meal replacement, so it's not "ok".

You might. You won't know unless you do.

There's lots of things you can take to work. Egg casserole ... leftover dinner.J.

Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
The Atkins website is run by a company that sells products. They would like you to eat those all day long. The more you eat the more money they earn. They have changed the diet from how Atkins left it in his books. The last one published when he was around is the New Diet Revolution (2002). It is the one we use here at ADBB. We have found that for many of us those bars are bad news. They stall us. So I would proceed very carefully. I use them for emergency but I almost never eat them.Originally posted by sukie7 View PostI have the New Diet Revolution and the Two Week Essential Book. So my question to you is: Are you sure you want to continue induction. Here you are looking for food alternatives to induction foods. The moment we start to look for food alternatives we are actually ready for OWL

Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
Maybe I should go to owl. I was just afraid that I would loose weight too slowly. I still have about 20 pounds to get to my goal weight. I'm starting to get so confused!

Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
The last 5-10 lbs should be lost in Pre-Maintenance. Most of your weight should be lost in OWL. OWL takes a long time and losing weight as fast as possible is not a good strategy in the long term.Originally posted by sukie7 View PostI was just afraid that I would loose weight too slowly. 5 net carbs of vegetables will likely not slow you down. Then you can go from there, 5 net carbs at a time.

Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?
Thanks! I am definitely going to think about starting OWL on Monday since tomorrow is the last day of my 2 week induction, plus Sunday is always grocery day so I can gear up for the week's menus.
