Re: Atkins Products Okay to Replace Meals?

Just was wondering if I could stick my nose here for a second,

I used to use these products at the beginning before joining this forum. Well at that time I did not know what I know now.

Now I have the book and now I know that those products can stall weight loss. Especially if you are not exercising regularly.

I have learned a lot here at this forum.

I now exercise regularly and go by the book not the website atkins.com

I do however take the bars once in a blue moon like when its that time of the month or something like that.

But honestly I really do since on this diet it has helped me not eat as much as I used to. Plus I don't have the cravings I used to have all the time.

What I do sometimes is drink a shake in the morning. Now I know this isn't slimfast and it is a way of life to learn to eat and whatnot but to be honest, I don't get hungry in the morning most days until about 1pm. I know you are not supposed to be so long with out eating and I really don't have an appetite. So instead of forcing myself to eat something out of my atkins induction list I opt for a shake. Sometimes I only eat once a day. HONESTLY I was not hungry. I ate a good proportion of induction friendly meal so all day I was fine. No need for another meal just my brunch was ok or just my late lunch. So I decided to take one or two shakes depending on the day. Oh and of course as much exercise as possible like 5-6 times a week for at least 20 minutes and I have lost weight.

So for me the shakes have worked and I eat once or twice a day since I am no longer as hungry as I used to be before atkins. I have been feeling much, much better.

The problem with using proprietory shakes is that unless you have a chemistry degree you probably have no idea what half the ingredients in them are and what (if any) benefits/problems drinking them might give you.

Also many shakes are too high in protein for Atkins, which is a medium protein way of eating. Dr Atkins did say that if we over eat protein it will be converted into glucose!

If you prefer to drink your meals now and again you could make your own shakes using eggs/cream etc. There is a recipe in this forum for an 'egg-nog' shake that is perfectly 'legal' for induction and many people like.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Somehow you must have read my mind because this morning as I was drinking my shake I was looking into the ingredients and thinking about them and what not....You are right about what you said...
