    Re: Maintenance Frustration

Jen, I did 35 minutes of 1 minute sprints and 2 minute walk/jog combos for HIIT tonight. I thought I was going to Puke a couple times....it was GREAT!! I feel really good. LOL

Silly those strawberries look amazing! The fruit here has been very crappy lately, i'm hoping it gets better soon. Berries are my fav...we get nice berries here in the summer.

Joy, I've been trying to do a regular run outside in the morning 10 -15 mins then do 15 mins of hiit on the stairmaster at the gym after my weight workout. 2 mins regular pace, 1 min fast? I have also tried changing the speeds on the treadmill when i have to run at the gym (we're suffereing from a neverending winter here), but i have a terrible fear of falling when i sprint LOL. I really need to read up on HIIT i have no idea if/how to do it right.

Hopefully the weather has improved for the long term here, we hit 50's today! So i might even try the sprinting outside...i think my running workout needs a makeover

Actually no... we no longer have a vineyard, just about 80 olive trees. They're quite a lot of work, what with pruning, fertilising and picking. Way better than the 1000 we used to have though! Obviously, we used to hire people to look after that number and it was always a huge problem finding people.

Re wine drinking... unlike the French who drink wine in bars, Italians drink wine with meals only. They don't actually drink very much...just regularly. Foreigners tend to drink more, as wine is good and fairly cheap here. Quite a temptation!

            Re: Maintenance Frustration

thirteenlbs, I never normally monitor anything except my weight as I have been low-carbing for nearly 12 years and have just got used to guestimating. I have maintained successfully (within ten lbs) since I first started. I am Female, 5.7 and have been about 148 since Christmas. However this week doing this high fat experiment I am down to 144 today (since Monday). Also this week, for the first time ever I have kept a food record of my own using Excel (which I just learned).
I don't worry about calories at all but I have been carefully tying to stay at 70g protein, 150ish grams of fat and under 20 carbs. It seems to be working for me but it is an experiment and I don't want to drop under 135 so I am watching it closely.
I am upping my fat mostly with butter, eggs, fatty fish like salmon and whipped cream. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Condor. Isn't it funny how after years on plan we're still tweaking and learning? And Joy-- wowsers, girl, you look GREAT!

I am actually a few pounds above my siggy and have been a bit confused at how to get back down without returning to induction...I've promised myself a gallop through the rungs before changing anything at all. I figure, it's been 4 years-- there's no reason to rush now!

                  Re: Maintenance Frustration

Not sure if I should be reporting this in the maintenance thread now as I'm now on the sixth day of my low carb/low protein high fat experiment. Anyway another update, I am now down 5lbs for the week, so yes, it does seem to be working for me. I agree with you thirteenlbs, we still get to learn a lot even after years of this WOE. I am going to continue this for another week and see where I am next Sat.

Sally....DH's dream is to have Olive orchards! I'm going to have to show him your post and maybe he will change his mind!

Sillygirl, I am also taking into account that some of that 5lbs is water but at least the scale is moving down, not just staying the same, as was the situation for the last three months.

5 lbs is 5 lbs, and 5 lbs is great! I always feel better when that water goes away. I hate that Michelin Man feeling!

                          Re: Maintenance Frustration

Forgot to mention that I did work out the calorie intake in my food diary (as you know this is the first time I've done a diary) and they average around 1800 a day. As I have no previous record of calories before this week I am going to guestimate that I'm probably eating 200 or so less than normal. However I have to mention that at the moment I couldn't possible eat more than the 1800 as I feel very full all the time, whereas before I could ALWAYS eat more for the day.

Silly... tell your DH that coping with tourists is waaaayyyyyy easier than coping with olive trees! Olive trees are far prettier than most tourists though and the DOP oil (DOP is to oil like Appellation Controllè is to wine) is to die for!

Condor... that's terrific! Just goes to show that fat doesn't have to be fattening!
