      Re: Maintenance Frustration

This is quite fascinating. Did you post your average cals and carbs? I assume the cals have gone up with the increase in fats... or perhaps not as you reduced the protein, right?

You must be so happy with the losses. Do pls keep the updates coming!

Condor, can you give a few days worth of menus? I'd like to see how you're accomplishing this. I know you gave grams once before, but I'd just like a visual of what a menu looks like for you.

            Re: Maintenance Frustration

I will post a typical menu tomorrow, I have guests here today, but I am still averaging the 150g fat, 70g of protein and less than 20carbs. I have also noticed I am very hunger satisfied so the calories are lowish, less than 2,000 but more than 1700. When I have dropped a full 10lbs I am going to continue with the ratio but up the calories as another little experiment. I am on the fence regarding calories but my non-atkins husband is convinced it's the calories. The big thing is the lack of hunger and the incredible thist. More tomorrow.

Okay, here is a typical menu. My protein/fat/carb/cal quantities might not be right, some I get off the packet, others of the Atkins web site. Also please excuse the mix of metric and imperial measurements, I grew up in the UK in the 70s and learnt both so I use both all the time.

One item not listed is one cup of full caffeine coffee.
BTW I am down another 1lb today. Hope this helps and let me know what you think.

Sorry the way I exported my excel spreadsheet came out really badly, it's supposed to be a list with columns. I'll try and work out how to do that.

                    Re: Maintenance Frustration

Yeah, I punched it into my fitday.

My fitday comes up with 1354 calories for the whole day.
                    81% fat
                    2% carbs
                    17% protein

Seems very close to the fat fast?

I'm down another pound to 187 today. Eating loads of veggies, changed my exercise routine and keeping my calories up between 1750 and 2100.

                      Re: Maintenance Frustration

Never used fitday. I hope my calories arenot that low, I am taking what it says on the packet or off the netm which made that day around 1656, I didn't go with percentages but instead I try to stick close to the 150g fat and 70 gram protein, carbs less than 20. However as I am not experiencing any hunger pangs or cravings I am happy. I am going to up my calories later in the week but I am a little anxious as I don't think I could manage more food. Validrouge do you think this is too little? I always thought the fat fast was just eating fat, I do have my salad and veggies and meat and fish in there. The protein was definately my downfall in the past, I was just eating way too much, up to four times those quantities sometimes. Welcome any feedback.

                        Re: Maintenance Frustration

It is definitely better to go by the nutrition info directly off the package as you are doing. That is most accurate.

Where are you getting the numbers for your grams of fat and protein and carbs? I know the ratios 65/5/30 fat/carb/protein are from the sample menus in the book. Although those ratios are never discussed in the book, from what I understand if you plug all the menus into fitday, those are typically the ratios for those menus.

It's very easy to overeat protein. I do it on occasion...especially with boneless skinless chicken breast. And I always worry about overeating it and it turning to glucose and then getting stored as FAT. Totally defeating our purpose.

I mean it's obviously working for you. Are you exercising a lot? Because you do need a certain amount of protein so that when you exercise, your body doesn't go to your muscles for the protein.

                          Re: Maintenance Frustration

I read about the gram ratio on another site. However I am sure this is the kind of ratio I had 12 years ago when I first started atkins. I was losing about 1lb a day back then with 20 minutes interval training a day on the treadmill and light weight lifting.

My excercise now is major chores around the house and garden from morning to night (we are getting the house up to date for rental) so I am not on the treadmill currently. I do pilates with an instructor on the machines twice a week for an hour each time.

When I am on the treadmill I do thirty minutes interval training a day (ie; 2 minutes fast, one minute slow etc, I shake it up regularly. I have always been very active but I do it to be fit (my husband and I recently sailed around the world and we needed to be fit) rather than to lose weight. I have never been someone who stays on the treadmill for an hour.
                          Hope this helps.

                            Re: Maintenance Frustration

I put your menu in fitday too, for interest, as I use the pay version, so there are a always a few differences to the online version. It gave me 1547 cals, 14 net carbs, 131 g fat and 78g protein. The ratios were: 75% fat 5% carbs 21% protein.
I had to use philly cheese for mascarpone and there are always a few differences to the way each of us list things.
