    Hello all

So I started the week off with rung 1 - veggies. I am not eating anything different than I did on induction veggie wise, just 5g more of them. My problem?? I'M STARVING!!!! I was full & satisfied all of the time while on induction... what gives??

    Mini Goals:
    183 12/1/09
    173 3/8/10

Anything else going on? More exercise, different meds, TOM?

TOM (or pms rather) hits me hard...I get hungry and want to eat all the time. Once tom actually hits, it is just the opposite...I can't eat, feel sick, etc.

Maybe your body is just craving the extra veggies?

Good luck. Hope we can help you figure this out...

    Jane

Do you do fitday? You are sure you did not start eating less fat or protein?
What kind of veggie did you increase?
I have hungry days. Those are my I could eat an elephant today days. So I just eat.

          5 net carbs more, right?

          My problem?? I'M STARVING!!!!
If you are hungry, eat ("legal" food, of course).

How many calories are you consuming daily, on average?

          How much water?

Are your net carbs spread throughout the day?

I use fitday, I try to keep my percentages 65/30/5 as best I can. I have been averaging around 1800 cal/ day. Just looked at yesterday in fitday & my calories were up at 2460, could this be why? I ate more calories (while keeping check of carbs) so this made me more hungry??
I have been adding 5 nc more of veggies like asperagus, brussel srouts, broccoli....

I have my veggies with every meal & drink at least 100 oz water daily. I still am having my diet pop (w/Splenda) 1 per day. I just haven't kicked that habit yet, but I figure as long as I'm losing it musy not be affecting me all that much.

See how it goes the next few days. It may just have been a fluke day.

Re: Week 1 of OWL Rung 1

I am also in week 1 of OWL rung 1, and had the SAME thing happen to me two days ago. All I added were 5 net carbs of brussels sprouts to my normal induction menu, but I have noticed an increase in my hunger. It is TOM for me, AND I'm sick with laryngitis, so I'm thinking it's just a combination of those things...I hope, anyway!

It may well be your TOM affecting you, or maybe if the brussels are a new veg for you (ie you didnt eat them on induction) you might have found a trigger food.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Elizellen, I didn't eat them while on Induction. I plan to give them another try with dinner tonight and see what happens. I realize that they might be a trigger - and I'd be disappointed, since I do like brussels sprouts - but it is what it is...and there are plenty of other veggies out there

Are you eating plenty of fat with them? that might help your body cope more easily if they are a trigger food. One member in the past used to have hunger after snacking on plain celery sticks but not if they were spread with cream cheese.

In OWL, our percentages change. Protein stays at 25-30%, while fat goes down and carbs go up. You might want to read this thread: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...rcentages.html

But don't obsess about percentages. They are nothing more than guidelines.

I ate more calories (while keeping check of carbs) so this made me more hungry??
Unlikely. I think you ate more calories because you were hungrier (since you said this has been going on since you moved to OWL), not that you are hungrier because you ate more calories.

Are you eating them with fat?

Did you try any new recipe or veggie combination? For example, I can eat pumpkin just fine... and I can eat tomtoes just fine... but recipes that combine the two trigger cravings.

Check again the ingredients in everything you buy. I don't remember the name... but we had/have a member who was hungry after eating chicken... and then found out it's injected with sugar. So keep your eyes open for such things.

Yesterday was much better. I wasn't craving anything and not wanting to eat everything in sight. I am wondering if it's the cheese... during induction I wold have 1oz mabe but looking at my fitday I have been snacking on upwards of 4oz/day now... could be the culprit, I didn't have much yesterday.

Thanks for posting that link Georgiana - I was not aware that fat was to come down a bit.

How do I figure out how many calories I should be eating daily? I put all of my numbers into an online calorie counter and it said in order to loose weight I need to eat 1555 calories/day. This seems quite low to me.
