Re: Week 1 of OWL Rung 1

Remember, Atkins isn't a "calories in/calories out" way of eating.

At your weight I would suggest around 1880 calories ... using the "rule of thumb" of 10-12 times your current body weight ... it works for many.

Another way to tell might be to eat 250 calories above your BMR.

Using an "online calorie counter" won't really work for Atkins.

Here is a formula I came across. A bit more complicated but a bit fun

        For women with low activity
        A: Your age in years x 7.31=______
        B: 387-A=________
        C: Your weight in pounds x 4.95=________
        D: Your height in inches x 16.78_________
E: B+C+D=____________ (This is your maintenance calorie level)

If you do 30-90 minute low impact exercise you can multiply result with 1.14
If you do more intense activity you can multiply with 1.27. And if you are super active by 1.45

        Try that for fun

I don't really care much about calories.

As far as my brussels sprouts go, I had them last night with butter (and I'm NOT shy about cooking with it!) and it seemed to go better. I wasn't ravenous right after dinner. We ate dinner early (5 p.m.), so I did have a snack later in the night, but not because my stomach was screaming "FEED ME!" I may try to make my own cheese or hollandaise sauce too, to keep the fats up a bit...
I will ONLY weigh once per week! I will refer to DANDR 2002 and this forum when I have questions. I will revel in new recipes, new clothes, and the new feeling of being happy in my skin. I will hold myself accountable to do this the right way, without excuses, because I know that Atkins is the best thing for my health and happiness. I. Will. Succeed!

Good to hear I would hate to have to drop them as a veggie, especially with butter or a cheese sauce on them.

My cheese sauce recipe is really quick and easy
            Rich Cheese Sauce

            Ingredients
4 ounces shredded hard cheese (I like a strong mature cheddar)
            1 ounce cream cheese
2 fluid ounces (4 T) double cream (heavy cream in USA)

            Method
Melt together either on the stove top or in the microwave stirring frequently.
If you have any leftovers they turn into a cheese 'butter' after refrigeration overnight and can be used on top of veggies or chicken etc.

The original recipe I adapted also had a teaspoon of mustard in it but I like it without this.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
