Re: From 270+ to 170+ pounds!

Julie you look great! I am excited about starting the weight training and I am so happy because I have always preferred to do that type of work instead of aerobic. I used to lift weight when I was younger and I remembered liking it. I hope my results come close to yours. You are such an inspiration!

Good gravy you look spectacular woman!! I know you walk around so excited. How do you handle the questions when people ask you how you lost the weight because I'm sure they ask. Good point about the exercise…no, make that GREAT point about it. I need to do more strength training because I am a die hard cardio nut and everything I read tells me to add weights and core training in the mix too.

      Keep up the great work.

Re: From 270+ to 170+ pounds!

Desihue--it's funny. People who have just met me have NO idea what I used to weigh, they think I've always been a workout-freak and health-fanatic. It's become just something I do that they can't imagine me any other way. Those who do know me from before always seem really let down when I tell them I eat healthy foods, no junk food, no processed foods, no soda, drink lots of water, and exercise often! They were expecting some sort of magic pill I guess. I say, "Nope, just LOTS of hard work and dedication!"

I actually don't walk around telling everyone I do Atkins--there are a few where I live that have tried their own "bacon and butter" version of Atkins, only to quit after 6 days and gain it all back. Those people are less-than-receptive to the idea of Atkins because they never did it correctly, and I tend to say "Oh, I gave up junk food, processed foods, and refined sugars and starches." Those I do tell, I make sure to explain how many veggies I eat (8+ cups per day), things I DON'T eat (refined flours, sugars, fast food, etc.), and WHY the plan works, why it's so healthy.

Re: From 270+ to 170+ pounds!

I'm back in the fattie mindset...that says ugggh at the thought of "formal" exercise.

Yet a year and a half ago, I was quite fit...and what was I doing? Running everyday. (Coming from the girl who normally would only run if being chased...and even then, they'd better have a gun!)

So I have to say, thank you for the reminder. You don't get where you're going for free. (Well, some people do, but if we were 'born' that way, we wouldn't be looking on the ADBB.)

Plus, another reason that we have to be realistic that just because it's winter, doesn't mean we can use the excuse to be lazy.

                Thanks for the pep talk!
