Me too. I guess you can tell I take this pretty seriously. That's because it changed my life..... and I know it works.

Good luck (and plan yourself some trip food to take with you)...
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

You might end up eating low calories, or burning off what you're eating, and you could even come back lighter than when you left!
Physically that isn't going to happen.

        Why not?

If she eats bunless hamburgers, drinks water, goes for a hike in the woods, and then has a handful of potato chips & a s'more, she might be able to burn more calories than she's eating & stay under her CCLL (as she doesn't know what that is yet). I'm not saying it's probable, I'm saying it's possible.

The "doomsday" message of cheating = a month or more of setback might be enough to make someone decide to totally binge on carbs. They figure "what the ****, if I'm going to cheat, I'm going to cheat!" I think that if they can keep it under control with the hopes that maybe it won't set them back at all, they'll be more able to stick to this WOE. (Don't get me wrong -- I love all you Atkins ****'s!! :hug But sometimes your tough love is a little too tough, and not enough love.)

The first time I did Atkins, I went camping for a weekend. We went white water rafting, so it was definitely a more adventurous weekend than just sitting around a campfire. I brought legal food with me and stayed away from the snacks for the first day. The second day, after our long haul on the rapids, we were in the bar until 11pm waiting for our ride to bring us back to our campsite. I ended up drinking beer (which is weird, as I didn't even drink beer when I wasn't on Atkins), and eating nachos and other carb laden appetizers from the bar. I didn't gain anything on that trip, despite all the carbs I consumed. So, like I said, it's possible.

I agree. I am all about doing Atkins hardcore, but you have to makedo with what you have...if you make an effort, but have a few carbs youre not going to kill your diet. If someone has a "planned cheat" I doubt any of the negative things some of you say are going to make them change their mind about having the cheat...they will probably just roll their eyes at you...People know whats right to eat and whats not right, they don't need people preaching at them telling them they are DEFINITELY going to screw their diet up...sure some people might, but no one knows you but YOU! So please don't make assumptions about what WILL happen to people if they screw up once, or have a planned cheat.

Well said Breakfast. I totally agree. We cannot assume that if we all follow the Atkins diet the exact same way that we will all have the same results. That's just not the case. Too many factors play into it resulting in everyone having different results. A consious effort is being made here to have a "planned" cheat. I'm sure she will do well!

I appreciate hearing all sides but come on people, this is an ATKINS SUPPORT BOARD! You came here to gain support to help you lose the weight, not to get a permission slip to cheat!

A person planning cheat days who comes here to share that knowledge with the board members can't POSSIBLY think that we who take this WOL seriously are going to be shouting Hurrah's from the sidelines.

We struggle, we succeed, but we can't give a pat on the back when someone PLANS to fail!

(ahem) stepping off soap box now.

                    Aloha,
I have eaten in a non atkins way for a meal every few months. The reason everyone is against this is because most of us are here because of 'food addiction' specifically 'carb addiction' I couldnt give a cocaine addict the ok to just do a little, that would be ridiculous. I personally didnt get heavy do to food addiction, it was more so fasting alday long then coming home and eating a big meal (carbs protein etc....) and falling asleep. The thing is not everyone is the same, and if that bag of chips is sitting there haunting you then you may be someone with an addiction you have not broken yet. Its not to say that you cant go right back to eating in an atkins way. But I consider myself someone who isnt an addict and I still feel my body craving carbs. The body doesnt really understand refined carbs, it knows its a quick source of great energy and therefore the body wants it. Unfortuntely we live a 'non-caveman' lifestyle and we eat 3+ meals a day and this is were the problems start. As for your camping trip, you have to do what you want to do. But obviously it is a step backwards, and you will need to be prepared for those cravings/addictions to haunt you once again. But then again if you decide to 'cheat' its not the end of the world either, move on and get right back on track.
                    good luck and Aloha

P.S. I hope that I dont get kicked off the board for saying this but "to bad G-mom is single" I know its cold in nebraska but WOW!!!

EXACTLY. Too many folk act like staying on plan is the exception instead of the rule.

I've been on Atkins since May 19th and have not cheated once. I simply understand people and their differences and know that we are not all the same and we don't all react the same way to the same circumstances. If a little cheat is going to help someone continue trying to lose weight then I see that as being MUCH better than getting discouraged and giving up all together. Wouldn't you say eh?

Well, I personally would never tell anyone to cheat, or give permission to anyone. But, not that they need our permission. I always encourage folks to stay on plan, however, in this case, she had already decided to eat off plan and I was advising some of the better options, if she chose to do so. Our bodies all respond differently to what we eat. Many people have come here and said that they have lost after eating this and that. I know along my journey, I have not always done things by the book. Could I have lost more weight by the book, probably, but life sometimes happens. I have been guilty of endulging in franken foods on more than one camping trip, and still coming home lighter, due to all the exercise, (walking, hiking, biking, etc). So, it really is possible, depending on what she chose to eat, and how much activity she gets while there. That is why I was simply making some suggestions, not necessarily "giving permission to cheat". I do think this is an Atkins support board, but sometimes people need support in different ways.

And as far as taking this WOE seriously.. after 150 pounds lost, I do take it seriously, but I also know that for me, perfection is not always possible. My human side shows it's face when it comes to food. But one mistake, or one day, did not make me overweight..it was daily poor food choices. I will never go back to the person I once was, but it doens't mean there won't be bumps in the road along the way.. Just pick yourself up, and go on!!

I guess that is why God made us all with our own opinions and personalities.. There is no "one size fits all" way of doing things.

                          Good luck to all :wave

Maybe thats my problem, because I just don't understand that mindset. I'll cheat so I won't cheat? That just doesn't make sense to me...but to each his own.
