    Re: Checking on those 5'7"

Hi! I am 5'7" My goal is 120..... I have been on Atkins since June 2003... over 25 months!
I have lost about 41 pounds most of it at the beginning...the last part is coming off very slowly.... but still is coming off...
I know a lot of you will think my goal is too low... but I have small bones and have weighed less than that as an adult... when I was 30 I put on weight.....and took it off at 35... to 119 lbs... put it back on by 45 years old ... took it all off again! put it all back on by 55 years old... have taken it almost off again.. not quite..12 more pounds to go!

Thanks ex-barbie-doll for responding to this post.

I had friends in high school who were the same height or an inch taller who weighed 120 - 125 and they looked fine. So, if you are small boned, maybe that is what you can weigh without looking too gaunt. I am medium boned so I would feel good between 140 - 155, but am going to wait until I get further along to set some goals such as this. Right now I'm just concentrating on a short-range goal so it doesn't seem so overwhelming.

Good luck on reaching your goal! You can do this!!

        Re: Checking on those 5'7"

Hi there! I'm 5'7", thank heavens! I always wish I was even taller so I could eat more! LOL!

My goal is 139 because that's what I weighed on my wedding day, 30 years ago today! I reached 134 about 20 years ago with Weight Watchers, but I stayed at goal for about six seconds. I was starving. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to reach that weight again since I've not lost any weight in the past year. I love this WOE anyway because I don't feel like a crazy person anymore. Food is my friend instead of my enemy now. My DH has lost a lot and he's like a different person. Really hunky!

My DD17 is almost my height and weighs about 135. She looks great and I always wish I could look like that again. I'll never give up trying. I wish you luck in figuring out the right goal weight for YOU!

          Nice hearing from you theredhead!

What stage of Atkins are you on?

I'm re-starting Induction today and so far, so good! I'm getting ready to eat my lunch now since it has been five hours since breakfast.

My husband is doing it with me this time too. I'm curious to see how he does. He only has about 15 pounds to lose.

After reading several people's experience, I had planned on staying on Induction for either the two weeks or one month tops, then moving on to OWL to help us create better habits with our food.

          Let me know your experience.

I think it is so neat to find so many other women the same height. Thanks for responding!

            Re: Checking on those 5'7"

I am also 5'7". I have always weighed more than the eye could see, so I am shooting for no lower than 170lbs. I am currently 200lbs in the pic in my siggy. I think 30 more lbs will be just enough. My body is weird though, because I can wear size 14 pants now! I thought I'd have to weigh a lot less than 200lbs to wear that size, but it just goes to show how different everyone's body frame can be.

theredhead: Congrats to you both! I think our bodies will "tell us" what they want to weigh. I do think it's a little strange that you haven't lost anything in a year...? Maybe more exercise would do the trick. A couple of us here are doing the "couch to 5k" running program on www.coolrunning.com.

It certainly helps to have a spouse or close friend on board to do Atkins with you! My ex jumped in when he saw I was losing weight. It was so much easier than the last time I had tried it... I could actually eat with someone! lol My husband (now of course) is very thin and has to remember to eat ENOUGH. *sigh* But I love that he tells me I'm beautiful almost every time he looks at me! I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Yes, it is odd how differently the sizes go with the weight.

When I was around 145 pounds I wore a 12/13 (tight), yet I had a friend who got that low and she wore an 8!

Maybe this go 'round with more exercise (?) I'll be a smaller size.

It is true that muscle weighs more than fat! What kind of exercising are you going to be doing? I have found that walking is the best for me to keep up with... and it's free! I just wish I had the motivation to work in some weight training too. Bleh!

                    Re: Checking on those 5'7"

I plan to do some walking and weight/strength training. (The only reason I'm doing the strength training is because my husband is an exercise physiologist and keeps telling me the benefits.) So, I do believe that it is a good thing.

Too bad some of us didn't live closer together and we could all walk and keep challenging each other while we were walking...

After some time I would like to be working out a minimum of an hour per day and possibly up to 90 minutes per day.

                    You?

                      Re: Checking on those 5'7"

I will be honest, I can't stand to work out that long at one time! I would rather work out or walk/run 30 minutes every day than put in 90 minutes 3 days a week! I guess we are all different! I used to have an Atkins buddy who would walk with me every day, and that was lots of fun! Now we have different schedules, though, and rarely get together... but I have gotten used to walking with the dog and my headphones. It's my "ME TIME" now.

                        Re: Checking on those 5'7"

Well, I set the goal at 60 - 90 minutes because of what I've been reading lately on exercise. I think I read that the average person should exercise minimum of 60 minutes per day and an overweight person 90 minutes per day up to six days per week. I'm not exactly sure if I got everything totally correct, but that is what I got from it. And I've heard it from several different sources (media).

I liked exercise better when I had energy. Now I'm tired all the time and have to force myself to do the everyday housework, go to work, etc. I am waiting for my energy to kick in so I can enjoy living again and wear my husband out exercising him to death! (giggle) He always thinks I have so much energy, yet I feel tired all the time. He just energizes me because I love to aggravate him!! He is so much fun to be around!!

Sad that you & your other Atkins buddy couldn't keep working out together. It sure is a big help and encouragement.

kat: Hey, if you can keep up with 60-90 mins a day you GO for it! If I were still working out at the gym (in the a/c!) I guess it would be a different story. But it is so HOT in MS during the summer. I am dripping sweat after walking 30 mins! And I have yet to find an exercise video that I like. I think I just don't like doing things at the house. I have a hard time studying at home too -- too many distractions!!
By the way... keep at your husband! It sounds like you have a really healthy relationship. I love to bug my hubby too - makes us both laugh.

pluorvee: Welcome! We are all built differently, I suppose. Some days I hate my "hourglass" figure, but I guess it is a blessing. It is supposed to be healthier to carry weight in your arms and legs, so I guess there's that... lol But my big butt has not gone away even after 78 lbs. I think it is here to stay!

Hey pluorvee, nice to hear from you. We're all in this together and can work on improving ourselves a little at a time. Who knows...this way of eating is supposed to burn more fat, so this time your tum might go away better than it has in the past. We just got to keep at it and not give up.

Spec, this week I'm not working out due to my ankles being the way they are, but hope to start Monday. I'd like to aim for those goals, but it may take some time to work up to that on a consistent basis.

You ever try the "Walk Away the Pounds" with Leslie Sansone. It is low impact and she has several varieties out there. (Do you ever search Ebay to see what you can find -- just in case?)

Yes, my hubby and I love to be together...He came into my life when I needed him the most. I feel so blessed!

Well, I hope all who pass this way will have a GREAT low-carb evening! Here's wishing a "whoosh" for all of us!

Oh I haven't seen the whoosh fairy in who knows how long! I just finished my walk/jog with the dog. MAN it is hot here! You can cut the air with a knife. But we got a good workout, and now it's time to move toward the pillow.

I have never tried WATP but I hear folks rave about it! Is it done at home? I don't quite understand the premise...?

My hubby came into my life at the perfect time, also! We are soooooo in love; people find us disgusting and we love it! We just married on May 28 and honeymooned in Mexico. How long have you been married?
