Re: So , why are we so tough at ADBB about following Atkins to the letter?

I am very relieved to find this board. I have been on another board for several years and I love it and the people there, but there is no real support, but a lot of cheerleading. I have to admit that I am working so hard to make this my way of life that I do not have much patience any more for the people who want to cheat and then want to come to the board and get everyones approval or something, and yes, I used to be that way too. But not anymore.
I want to get to goal, I want to eat this way for the rest of my life and I want to do it right. More of all, I want to be healthy !!!
I am not cheating at all, and I am not going off plan. If the thought even crosses my mind I will be sure to post it here so you can all tell me what you think of that idea lol !! You will ever see that post thought, I am very dedicated !!
What a relief to know I can get that support that I need so bad, and the structure to back it !!
    Thank you !!!! Stephie

Re: So , why are we so tough at ADBB about following Atkins to the letter?

I just had a rather irritating argument with my husband over the idea of "support". He keeps saying, "You know I'll support you in anything you do". He's the main cook here since I'm gone 12 hours a day and he's on disability. Yes, he cooks low carb meals and all that, but he's a "passive" supporter. When I say something like "I want some pie", he says things like, "hey, you're an adult, you can do whatever you want. I can't tell you what to have." I could probably go on to incredible lengths as to some of his ideas on support, but I'd only get angry again and you'd get bored. The point is, to truly support someone isn't just to pat them on the back when they do good, sometimes you gotta spank their butts when they do bad. Someone mentioned earlier I think "tough love"?

Bykerdruid sit hubby down and tell him you need tough love to help you be strong when you are feeling weak about your diet. Explain you might get angry at the moment cause he is standing between you and the pie but you will love him all the more for taking that posisiton and being the strong one when y9ou were weak. Ask him to be part of your Atkins support network and give him your DANDR to bone up on the whys. Dr Atkins has a section about recruiting family friends and coworkers that many folk don't seem to read or are too embarrassed to impliment.

Then he knows when he tells you that previous line you quoted he is letting you down.

There is a reason why those boards and the people who frequent them are not sucessful to the end. I'm very glad that when I started 6 years ago, a board that I would frequent was 1. NOT at all supportive of cheating. I was kicked in the @$$ verbally! 2. We did not have frankenfood choices! When a board goes soft and the moderator allows the board to go awry, how can success be achieved? This is a great place and I thank Allie and Betty for bringing me here.

What are y'all talking about with the New Diet? That is the book I have. I did great for a month, 22 pounds. The last three weeks I have stayed the same. I have not strayed from the diet at all. I stayed on induction. Tell me what I need to do. I am losing confidence.

                      Hi Jody
Many people find that after the first few weeks losses their bodies seem to take a 'break' from scales losses, but just keep on sticking to the plan and I am sure you will start losing again.
Have your measurements changed in those weeks? Do you find your clothes are still getting looser?
If you want some critique of what foods you are eating in case you are consuming 'hidden carbs' go to the 'Review my menu' forum and let people know your menus in case they can suggest some amendments.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: So , why are we so tough at ADBB about following Atkins to the letter?

wow guys - that takes some reading. It was entirely worth it though, is great to 'meet' people with the same mindset as me. sometimes, though I love them, my friends and loved ones don't quite get it - they try to tell me I'm being unhealthy for cutting out an entire food group, that my cholesterol will rocket, that I have been so good that I should take a break just today or I'll feel like I'm inconveniencing people (which lead to my downfall in italy, when I was too embarrassed to ask the people in the restaurant for salads each night and ended up 14lbs heavier by the end of ONE week due to the massive amounts of pasta).

Does anyone else ever feel that way - like it's easier just to eat what's given to you? Do you sometimes feel the stigma of admitting that you're on the Atkins diet?

I have yet to find a diet that even in the 'tough' times was as easy and satisfying to follow. On other programmes, I was constantly thinking about food, or counting calories or whathaveyou.

I am of the same opinion that you have to stay strict. You HAVE to follow the rules, or you end up having a nibble here - not noticing any difference on the scales, so it becomes a more regular nibble. Maybe the difference is still negligible, so you end up having some nibbles of other non-listed items, until you're convinced that maybe your metabolism has changed and that's when it [literally] goes pear-shaped, and all catches up on you, and more often than not, that induction you've been promising yourself you'll go on, just keeps getting postponed, and put off until you're too scared to even look at the scales.

This has happened to me three years in a row - over summer I get the figure I have always wanted, but in winter I generally work in mountain resorts, where baggy clothes are worn everyday and you get out of a routine - maybe a fixed menu for staff, cakes, beer and nachos provided for apres ski - so each winter I have gained it all back.

I started again yesterday, which is earlier in the year than I usually start, and I'll be damned if I fall off the wagon again. I will be a pain and ask for salad, I will stand up for myself, and I will not take that first nibble.

                          3lbs down, 26 to go...

                            OHHHH ski resort!!

Speaking about "Atkins diet"..... I never say anything about "Atkins" and "diet" around people I dont know... or I know they dont care. If I have to eat something with them people, I normally try to order salad (big one kind with alot of chopped meat and eggs!!! )... drink water, white wine, and/or coffee with cream and no sugar. If people ask about bread and desserts, I would normally SMILE SHYLY like a baby and say something like.... " OHHHH... cakes... YUMMMMmmmmmYYYY..... but I decided to avoid caaaaakes..."... this would normally make everybody around feeling guilty.. sure cause THEY have to be on a diet... and they gobble cakes as fast as they can. leaving me alone. If they dont care, I wont bother to explain, is all (plus, they never really interested).

never be ashamed of your Atkins! Just think if Dr Atkins had not spoken up time after time about his weight loss program you and I would never have heard of it and would not be the healthier smaller folk we are today. Use your morphing body as a walking talking Atkins billboard to correct the misinformation out there about Atkins. As long as we don't speak up and set the record straight about what Atkins is like it is a very high veggie eatting plan with a full 3 cups the first 14 days and even more as we progress folk will continue to think we chow down on hundereds of cheese bugers, eat butter by the stick and guzzel bacon grease to wash it down.

Atkins isn't no carb it is healthy low carbs it is selecting healthy lower glycemic carbs that we can handle as our choice for foods from that food group and limiting ourselves to only the amount of them our metabolism can handle as Carboholic ( hey welcome back) discovered pasta every meal wasn't the type and amount of carbs his metabolism could handle.

OHHHH dear, I am not ashamed, nothing to be ashamed of.... but in my 2 years I've heard just about everything. My friends and people at work and also my family... they KNOW everything about it. They see me eating tons of veggies and fruits every day. They for sure having hard time trying to find ONLY fat and bacon and eggs in what I am eating HAHA... but other people... can be different story.

Still remember as like it happened yesterday... me and my friend went to eat.. and I asked for my potatoes to be replaced with broccoli... they said SURE... and my friend decided to help and declared: SHE IS on ATKINS!! thats why!!! and some lady almost fainted and said OMGAWD.... I've heard people on Atkins go to the bathroom and they poop pure fat!!! ewwwww!!! I was, like.... ummmm.... nope.... kinda never saw any..... but she kept looking at me in disgust and obviously never believed a word.
