  • Why am I always hungry?

    I am always hungry.

I eat legal foods and am losing weight, but I have to force myself to stop eating when I'm still hungry.

I have tried high protein/fat snacks such as hardboiled eggs. I have tried drinking water when I feel hungry. I have tried exercising or doing something to get my mind off of it. I've had huge meals. I have tried every little trick that I have heard. Nothing works and I am always hungry.

I just don't understand. I thought this would go away after a while.

You're probably not eating enough, or you have carbs sneaking their way in. How long have you been on induction? (assuming you are at that stage)

Try filling up on carb free delights. I tend to pick out chicken or turkey and feast on that when I'm pekish (which isnt often)
Also, make sure you're drinking plenty of water!! Ice cold water works the best. Or chew on some ice cubes! My boyfriend has done that trick, because it tricks your body into thinking you're eating. He's lost a **** of a lot of weight! It really stops you overeating.

All in all, because I dont know how long you've been on Atkins, it took my body about 2-3 weeks to realize that I wasnt hungry. Now I have to remind myself to eat or I never feel hungry!

I've been on Atkins since around then. That's why I'm so shocked that this hasn't gone away. When I think of it, though, I can't ever recall a time in my life when I felt full.

I've tried eating more, less, larger meals, smaller meals, more carbs, fewer carbs, more fat, etc.

      It doesn't help.

I saw your start date, I wasn't sure if you have restarted though

I'd just suggest drinking more. It may be a psychological thing - the mind is usually tricked into thinking you're hungry when you're actually full.

However, there is a known medical condition where a person never feels full. It's not harmful, it just makes a person overeat, but it's usually a lot more severe, to the point where the person has no control over stopping eating and will literally have to have food locked away from them to stop them eating. It doesnt sound like you have it quite so bad lol

It may just be one of those things you'll have to live with. Obviously, if it gets unbearable, make an appointment with your dr. You may be better off testing some appetite surpressants on your body to see if that helps.

But if you're losing weight you're right on line anyway.

Why are you forcing yourself to stop eating while you're still hungry???? EAT!!! Enjoy your food until you're satisfied. Then if you get hungry again, EAT again! I don't care what time of day it is or how soon since your last meal. If you're hungry, eat something.

I know what you're talking about with the medical condition, it's not that.

I have to make myself stop eating or I'd never stop. You don't understand. I could eat some eggs, a steak, a large salad, a piece of chicken, another salad, some zucchini, some cheese, all within an hour. I just don't get full. I know when I've eaten enough, though, so I stop.

That's just a normal menu or something I've done before. Theoretically, I could sit there and eat 10 double cheeseburgers without feeling full. Me feeling full simply does not happen. Period.

              Hi,

I saw a sample of your menu in the 'review my menu' forum. I think it looks low and you could eat more.

Is that your menu most days? Do you eat any snacks?

Have you ever entered you foods into fitday.com?

That wasn't my menu. That was just a hypothetical question out of curiosity.

My menu is usually as follows:

                6am -
A small piece of chicken or whatever meat I had leftover. Just something to get me going.
                Water

                9am -
Small side salad from Wendy's with no dressing.
                2 eggs
                Water

                1:30pm -
Grilled Chicken from Wendy's plain with no bun
1 cup or so of broc.
                Water

                4pm -
Single hamburger with no bun and no ketchup
                Water

                6pm -
A hardboiled egg or some other small snack
                Water
That's about it, I guess. Not a ton of variation, but, I think it's plenty.

                  Hi,

I see very little fat, are you adding something to your veggies or salads?

Re: Why am I always hungry?

This is just what I've settled on after weeks of fighting with my problem.

I have tried eating lots of eggs, steaks full of fat cooked in oil, full fat salad dressings, etc. It doesn't work so I just cut back.

Maybe I should still add some more fat, just for the sake of following the diet properly.

That's exactly what I would do - if you don't have a fitday.com account, think about setting one up and really work to get your percentages around 65% 30% 5% (assuming your extended induction).

This is a mystery then. Usually it's hidden carbs that are kicking the carb cravings in or just not enough food...

What are the calories from fitday for the day you entered?

Honestly, it really doesn't strike me as being a lot of food. I eat more than that to lose weight. You didn't say that the weight loss was an issue, but the hunger is. If the hunger is an issue - EAT. Add fat to what you're eating, it'll help satiate you. If you are truly, physically hungry you should listen to that. If it's a psychological hunger, that's a horse of a different color.

Add to that that at 5'8" and 145 you've got to be at or darn near close to goal! Where are you looking to get?
