Re: Why am I always hungry?

I believe it was around 1900.

I included oil/butter used and all of that so the fat content was a bit higher than it appeared in my previous post.

1900 calories should be plenty - you're right. The added butter/oil and stuff should definitely be making the difference.

      How odd!

And it's physical hunger you're fighting, not emotional/psychological? Tummy-growling type of hunger?

Re: Why am I always hungry?

Thanks, Brook. The point, though, is that even when I do add these high fat foods, I'm still hungry. I constantly feel like I could eat a 6-course meal, regardless of what I just ate. Nothing seems to satiate me.

I started at around 165. My goal was to lose a few pounds (maybe to 135) but, more importantly, just to feel healthy and raise my metabolism.

It's definitely not anything emotional unless it's just something I'm unaware of. I'm not eating because I'm bored, upset, stressed, etc. I'm just......starving.

With plenty of fat, eating frequently, a fair calorie level, and not being psychological hunger.... oyyy.

I hope someone comes along that has some great suggestions for you, Jeudrietr. I'm at a loss.

Re: Why am I always hungry?

I've seen a special about people with that eating disorder that was mentioned above where you just never feel full.

Is there such thing as that on a lower level? I'm not going to go eat myself to 300 lbs death because I know how to control it. It definitely feels like something just isn't right with my body, though.

I agree with Brook, jeudrietr, unless you're exercising up a storm and your body just needs more calories...I have no idea why you'd be so hungry eating 1900 calories a day.

I run/jog 45 minutes every other day and do some weight lifting on the other day.

                  Nothing major, at all.

                    Jeudrietr,

                    Just a little more info...http://www.room42.com/nutrition/basal.shtml

I entered your height and weight:
1532.3 calories per day is your Basal Caloric Rate
(I justed used 25 for your age, so it may be a bit off)
                    1992.0 with average activity...

Actually with your daily exercise, you may just need a little more food.

That's the only other thing I could think of, maybe 2big will see the post and have some other input!

                    Take care!

Re: Why am I always hungry?

I still don't fully understand because, as I've said, even when I do eat more fat/calories, I still never feel full.

This may belong in the general health chat as this was a problem before I started Atkins. I thought that this way of eating would help, though.

Actually, if you're following the woe as intended, you may want to chat with your doctor.

                          Good luck.

Re: Why am I always hungry?

okay I'm a bit confused cause first you say you are hungry. then you say you aren't full ( Dr Atkins didn't promise fullness only lack of hunger). then you say you can't get satiated. So which is it? are you hungry or just wanting more food? cause the answers will be different.

If you are having true hunger within an hour of eating and you ate some carbs and some fats and some proteins ( you said your fitday says you are right on with % so i will assume you are and it isn't the lack of fats in the plan as what you wrote out for your menu indicates) then you need a bit more protein at that meal. try adding one more ounce and see if you are still hungry. yes I know this will mess up your ratios if you take it straight but very few protein sources are straight proteins most like eggs are mixed sources and many like eggs are in almost perfect Atkins ratios. IF adding the one ounce doesn't work add a second ounce at the next meal and see. if you have upped your proteins at every meal and are still hungry one hour later then you shiould up it one more ounce until you find the protein intake your body needs. That info came from Dr Atkins center back when I ask the infamous questions about how much protein was too much and how much fat was too little.

When beginning the Atkins plan, dieters typically eat about 2 grams of animal protein for each gram of body weight, says Colette Heimowitz, director of education and research for Atkins Nutritionals. That means a woman weighing 150 pounds would consume about 135 grams of protein each day -- http://www.webmd.com/content/article/62/71623.htm
don't be fooled by the title of that article cause the authors later says if you have normal kidney function there is no harm done.

It has now been scientifically established that the fats in the high fat Atkins meals react with the area of the small intestine where it connects to the stomach and signals go to the brain telling it to close up the hole and keep that food in their longer. That is what makes us feel fuller longer on Atkins even though fullness isn't a hunger thing.

Sorry for the improper wording. I'm not looking to get full. I'm only looking to be satiated/not hungry. I can't seem to achieve that, no matter what I do.

I will try adding protein (and more every meal) and see what happens.

                              Thank you.

also what are you doing when you eat? did you know there is an area fo the brain that if it is distracted while you are eating will not register that you ate and the brain will not generate those I Can't believe I ate that whole bagf signals? thatis why if you are watching a movie or TV you can eat a whole big bag of something and go looking for more when if you sat at the table you'd be full with much much less food?

Make sure you are focused on your food at meal time and only your foods not the folk around you not the radio the computer the tv nor the book you are reading just concentrate on putting that bite in your mouth chewing it up and swallowing it. do that for each and every bitr and you are going to be amazed at the difference in how you feel anout the amount of food you are eating.

                                Happy low carbing.
