    Not to be rude or anything, but how come EVERY single time that someone posts that they are "working there atkins" someone comes and refers them to another board? Like you said, we're all here to help! Why would you tell someone that your not doing it to THE T like Dr. Atkins so your gonna have to scoot?

    I think it's completely ridiculous how when people are trying to reach out for help and support, there are people who come along and say these rude remarks. I honestly dont know where you all get this from?!?!

    Sarah- You know as well as the rest of us, you're doing fabulous! and you always have.....simply because your working your atkins, and tailoring it to your needs in life and there is no shame or blame in that.

    2Big--Yeah...last week when she was talking about losing that 4lbs....believe it or not, it was from starting the protein shakes! Woo Hoo! What a champ sarah is! God love her!

      Speedy actually I know how Sarah is doing and have been talking with her for over a yr about all her health issues.
      I also know she posted about losing 2 pounds end of NOV, 2 pounds mid DEC and 2 more pounds end of dec, and then 2 more last week

      if you read the this topic Sarah posted symptoms of dehydration. Protein in amounts ocver 30% act as a diuretic.

      Knowing she has posted about adding her shakes I ask how much protein is she doing?

      Wannabe even thinks ( incorrectly too) that Sarah has increazsed her proteins cause she posted about adding shakes in other topics.

      SAHAR ahs come back beleives she has clarified this issue with the cut my cals still eating my atkins food and ( again) added the shakes. this further implies she has increased her protein levels beyound Atkins levels. When you up protein you got to cut fat or carbs since she didn't go abck to under 20 net carbs aga9in she would have had to lower her fats but that makes no sense because she says she is still eating her Atkins foods and is chreat free.

      So again I ask cause Sarah sometimes gets things in her head and on paper different liek when she was trying to tell us she was amenic and got the terminalogy wrong.


      She again replies about 80 grams of proteins and my eyes are bugging out. she added 80 grams of protein above her already high Atkins level??

      Again I ask?

      and she clearifies she has cut her cals from over 2200 becasue she wasn't losing weight and uses the 2 shakes because she her 40 grams were not enough and now she has 80 grams and the proteins make her feel better.


      So lets look at this further. At over 220 cals eating Atkins correct which she has posted she is, then 30% of those cals were protein and protein is 4 cals per gram so 2200 times .3 divided by 4 is 165grams of protein. Sarah has actually lowered her protein intake by more then 1/2 but still says she feels health and better doing it the new way. Looks like lower protein was what she needed but didn't know it. and she is doing an atkins technically correct program cause she chooses her protein to be whey isolate instead of a chicken,pork or beef.

      Bren posted that because we have had folk here on the Atkinsdietbulletinboard.com site doing other plans and when a newbie ask a question about Atkins they answer based on their own program. She wanted to make it clear if Sarash or anybody else wanted to do a 40/40/20 program they were welcome to discuss it on the low carb board.

          well not exactly Speedy The veil of more protein is needed to exercise has been lifted from Sarah's eyes. Sarah is very happy with the way she feels and she now knows she didn't increase her protein at all, she actually cut it by over 50%.

          She is a walking talking in proper Atkins ratio (according to her posts) Exercising Atkinseer. I hope she will now go help other new Atkinsers realize the myth of the I got to have more proteins cause some site told me so.

          And that is what ADBB is about, teaching folk when they don't see it themselves that Atkins works if you work it and stay within Dr Atkins' guidelines.

            Hi guys,

            I don't mean to disrespect anyone here...I admire each and every one of you!

            But, this thread brought up a question for me....

            Sarah said her protein intake is roughly 80 grams....and she said that was 'upped'.

            Right now, I'm on day 6 and almost every one of my days my protein intake has been over 90 grams each day.

            My ratios are working out nicely.

            2big...I think you have addressed this issue in your above post...but it confused me a little and I just wanted to clarify.

            Basically, (based on induction levels) the 20 grams of carbs should set the 'other' food intakes per gram...proteins and fats....IF you stick with the 65/30/5 ratio (induction ratio)

            Sooooo, a 90 gram intake of daily protein seems about right?

            Sorry....this is still pretty new to me and I want to be sure I'm eating correctly!!

              Yep it was confusing wasn't it.

              the amount of protein you have is based on the total amount of food it takes to satisfy your hunger. if it takes 1000 cals ( this is just an example folk with easy math) then 300 of them should be protein cals and that would be 75 grams

              so if your total caloric intake was 1200 cals then your protien amounts are right. with induction you can be slightly off cause it is hard to get exactly the 5% carbs which will increase everything else a bit.

              Are you eating to satisfy your hunger or are you keeping a hard rein on your calories?

                Sorry to bud in, but I want to add that I don't think 2big was being rude at all, I think she was / is honestly just trying to help. Sarah is and has been doing an awesome job with her weight loss and commitment towards it wtg Sarah!

                2big is always ther for advice and help and she also does things strictly according to the book. One cannot blame her for giving the advice that she does, and also being strict as she is. 2big has also done a tremendous job with her weight loss, and I am amazed at how much information she does give and how much knowledge she has acquired from this WOE.

                Sarah has also been helpful to me as well! You rock with exercise and things! And I'm so amazed at your commitment and determination to get the weight off its awesome!

                I'm not really taking sides here, but I know everytime that I have posted a question (I posted a question about cheese a week or so ago for instance), 2 big is one of the first who answers. Her answers are often quite lengthly as well.


                We all have to remember that this is the Internet, and we are typing on message boards. We are not hearing each others voices to hear the tone of the voice or the friendliness or lack of friendliness, etc. We are just typing and then reading each post as we go. What I am trying to say is that sometimes with the Internet things can be taken the wrong way because when we read something we might be reading it with a different tone of voice as to waht the writer/poster might have wanted it to come out as.

                  no need for any side taking in this. 2big and sarah are on the same page, they just had a bit of difficulty getting there. it is very hard to get things oh so right in a post when you don't read and reread before you hit the submit button.
                  yes, sarah rocks with her exercise and posts
                  yes, 2big knows the book and the plan by heart.
                  making sure everyone knows this.............they are both big losers!
                  together they come up with a slew of numbers that my brain can not work.
                  and together they work out the answer to the original question.

                  things always come back to the book. this is an atkins site. it's always going to come back to the book and the plan that dr. atkins promoted, if i can use that word.

                      My biggest priority is keeping within the 20 grams of carbs and staying close to the induction ratio. Calories are an afterthought at this point. (although it seems they may become more important once I hit OWL)

                      Some days I don't even notice them (and you're right, looking over my fitday, my calories are generally in the 1200-1300 range)

                      As for satisfying my hunger, the induction foods seem to be holding their own and I'm always comfortably full. (unless I wait too long to eat between meals) So far, so good on this front.

                      I posted because I was afraid I was eating too many proteins by the numbers given here...but I've kept my ratios close so I was confused.

                            2BIG hijacking the thirst topic

                            CESARA as long as you are feeding your hunger and staying in the Atkins ratio guidelines you will not get too much protein even if it takes 3000 cals one day to satisfy your hunger.

                            Think of it like a car you run on Atkins grade fuel and that octane has 30% protein. get the PP fuel with 50+% protein and you like a regular car will "knock" as you misfire.

                            if you have any more questions about your Atkins how about taking them out of this topic so other folk can see it and help you too?
