I am not trying to judge her just feeling a little judged...I am sorry to you bren if I made you feel the same way....and no I have not been around long enough to be involved in the past discussions. Like I have said before I didn't know I was starting anything by saying my opinion.
Don't worry about it! This place is great. You will fit right in and we will all be here cheering you on!
Hi Chrisie,
Welcome to ADBB. You will find that we have some lively discussions going on all the times, we have had heated debates on everything from candida, to cholesterol, to drinking water, to bitter melon. I bet we could argue about the color of the moon if someone suggested it wasn't the lovely blue color.
LOL I bet the most common question on this board is "Can we have SF jello". Or maybe What is jicama?

Desert, The Moon isn't blue from where I'M standing!!!Just kidding! LOL. That's a good point though.. and can we have SF jello?!? I TOTALLY missed THAT one!! LOL

Low calorie to me doesn't mean 800 calories a day but anywhere from 1200-2000 depending on where I'm at personally. Again, that's me. Each person is individual on what works for him or her.

thanks guys, finally some good thoughts to "lose" on. and to the girl that I cofused you were talking to me you didn't have to get smart I really got confused....my first name is jennifer...sorry...didn't have to get deffensive though...simple misunderstanding...I agree with what you say linda...I never said low calories wasn't a good idea...I actually said that you calories were naturally reduced by doing a low carb once your hunger is reduced and all...but doing a low carb and trying to eat only like 800 calories a day is insane to me....that is so much torture to your body...I know to each your own..but I just can't see how it can't be healthy...I have seen some post where there doctor has even said it is okay...I just don't understand even how a doctor can give an okay to that...I mean how can you fit in all your daily needs into no carbs and no calories...that is my only point here.
Chrisie... I think what's happened here is this: You inadvertently started a thread which is very similar to one we've had just recently (like only a few days ago), on this very same subject. After pages and pages of going round in circles and getting nowhere, that thread was closed because, if I remember right, it was thought that it might confuse newbies.
So now... everyone is still a little edgy on this particular subject; but that edginess is in no way personal to you.
This is a board where we all do our damndest to help and support each other, but at the same time, we all voice our opinions openly... and, well on this subject, we've all voiced those opinions, sometimes getting a little hot under the collar, just too short a time ago.
Please don't take it amiss. We're all supporting you, rooting for your weight loss and we all value hearing your opinions.
Happy low carbing!
Sal

You know what, I never appreciated you attitude in your first post, and I surely don't now. Maybe if you took the time to read about those you are talking to, you wouldn't have gotten confused. That could have prevented you from freaking out, thinking I secretely knew who you were or something. And believe me, that was letting it roll off my back, NOT getting smart. If you got confused fine, but you didn't have to address me the way you did either. I have never "gotten smart" with anyone before.
You know what this whole thread is rediculous, I'm sorry. The first post didn't ask an, "I am confused," type question. It was an, "Are you stupid," type question. It seems to me that you have read SOME peoples menus and until you address those people, you will not understand why they do what they do. Asking such a general question to all of ADBB, when it's reguarding a few menus that you saw, 'Why do you do that, have you not read that book', can come across nasty to everyone that reads it.
I don't care if this is a new topic or an old topic, an attitude is not nessessary. If you have a legetimate question, fine, I have TONS of them, but you have to remember, we cannot hear you saying these things personally, we see black and white written infront of us. Sometimes things come out one way and get interpreted another. But you should understand this already, being that it was a "simple misunderstanding."
Everyone has a BMR, basal metabolic rate, the rate in which your body burns calories if you were to stay in bed all day long. It is the LOWEST number of calories your body needs to prevent it from going into starvation mode. If you have a general idea as to what it is, you can stay around it..but not go under or wayyyyyy over. Too much or not enough of anything is unheatky and a very bad idea.
As you lose weight, your BMR lowers, also as you get older.
I do not know why some people don't eat enough calories, but I do know that I do and if you see a menu that you think maybe too low, just ask them. Maybe they were sick and didn't work out so they didn't need to eat a smuch...who knows...but if you give those people a friendly suggestion, you may not only teach them something, but also understand why.
I hope this helps.

Dr Atkins explains it so well in DANDR we all have unique metabolism and unique life styles so our needs are different.
Some of us go to the gym or workout at hiome several hours aday and will need more energy for the day then somebody with the same metabolism as us that sits at a desk all day and on a couch all evening.
Some folk have wrecked their metabolism with yoyo dieting and burn very little fuel even if thwey do a normal amount of exercise when they start Atkins.
We each need to learn what our body needs at the time we are eating and give it that. Remember those of us that started in the CC forum had over 350,000 stored fat cals on our bodies to use as fuel being burned off so from a nutritional standpoint all we needed was the protein for cellular repairs and the converted sugar for the body parts that can't burn fatty acids for fuels plus the vits and minerals which can be gotten carb and cal free in bottles. but because the human body also has sensors for fue intake and shuts down body processes when it perceives the intake to be in famine situations we have a minimum intake so we don't slow down our metabolism.
( Wanabe I'm using you cause you posted about this) on days wannabe works out she is hungrier and should be eating more then on the days she doesn't workout. She is the same person each day but has different energy needs so she fuels up with different amounts to meet thosae needs. if she picked a number and said I will eat that much on both days she could be under eating on the exercise days and over eating on the nonexercise days. that is why feeding the hunger is the criteria for Atkins eating.
And because hunger is the criteria if you are hungry at bed time eat. if you are famished at breakfast eat. if you aren't hungry at lunch don't eat and when you hit the 6 hr mark have the blood sugar stabilizing snack of some protein/fat and your legal carbs. if dinner time comes and you still aren't hungry don't eat and at 6 hrs have another snack. your body will tell you if those snacks were enough or not with hunger signals.
Chrisie, it was just hrs after the last topic on the subject had quited down so you can see why folk were bringing baggage to your topic. Perhaps if you had used the search feature to see if this issue had already been discussed you could have added your comments to that ongoing topic.
