    Re: Under 30 Club?

Well I can explain this for you guys:

The heavier you are, the more caloric needs the body needs to remain working. Simple physics calculations indicate that even having a body operate 98 degrees (let alone activity) would require a 300lb person to eat at a minimum of 4000 calories a day or so. This is why ALL overweight people overeat - regardless of what they (we) say.

As your body surface area grows smaller you simply do not require as many calories. For most people on atkins diet appetite supression the loss then slows without changing their appetite / habits.

Thus --> The more you have to lose, the faster you lose it in the beginning.

RationalB, not all of us eat 4000 cals, how close(in cals) do you think we should be on this diet to lose, for a person of 300+...poppie

No I mean to sustain their weight a person 300+lbs has to eat in the viscinity of 4000 calories a day. Roughly twice what the average, 175lb american man eats.

In order to lose weight, regardless of diet - you just have to eat less than that. The great thing about atkins is the appetite supression, so you just dont have to worry about calories!

Sorry, I didn't mean to be snippy, you guys are right about how different the weight loss can be for each person. I'm just really frustrated. I hear things like "Why are you dieting?? I'd give anything to be your size", or "You look fine, stop torturing yourself and eat some bread!" I hear it every day.

I find that the lower my weight, the harder it gets to lose. I have to exercise harder and watch my calories like a hawk. Used to be I could burn 115 cals in a mile, now it's more like 96! And the only way I've been able to lose any weight at all this last month is by cutting my calories to under 1,000/day and adding minutes to my work outs...I'm up to 1 hour a day, 5-6 days a week.

I'm so tired, and yes, hungry.

            Re: Under 30 Club?

many of us workout that much and more. you can add free exercise like walking all the aisles at the store before you shop taking the long way to get places replace your chair with a fitness ball and exercise every time you are sitting down.

remember too that scale weight loss isn't your goal! I know i sound like a nut but as we do Atkins we morph our bodies adding lean muscle mass while sheding the fat mass and the fluids are in a constant stat of flux so you can have no change on the sclae while you have shed 2 pounds of your fat mass and added lean muscle and fluid pounds. CAFFLYGAL lost over 60 inches and less then 40 pounds cause she went from fluffy marchmellow to lean body. She would gripe all the time about her lack of scale progress but luckily she went to a gym and could get her mass measured so she would post that too and I could show her that she had lost pounds of fat and added pounds of lean body mass while getting smaller.

Stop restricting your cals. watch your carbs and listen to your body.feed your hunger and you willbe getting smaller and healthier. folk are seeing the smaller healthier you when you walk in the room not the scale number. I know folk have a hard time believing i weigh 170 pounds cause I have a 143 pounds of lean body weight. Get your body fat measured and see if you are in a healthy range for you. I passed my goal weigh right up going for that scale number back in 2003

I know how you feel Chupa. A pound is a pound whether your 5lbs overweight or 50lbs overweight. If your not happy with yourself than it's an issue. And yes, you would think 10lbs would be a breeze to loose. After all, 10lbs took no time at all to gain! I too am exercising over an hour a day 5-6 times a week. I am gaining lots of muscle but I still have that roll around my middle that won't go away and I know it's that excess 10lbs just sitting there. I am making sure my calories don't go overboard but I eat to stay satisfied so I don't overeat. And another thing, I have not yet lost weight two weeks in a row which is very depressing. I feel like I can't do much more to make it go away. I will stick it out though, I'm not going to give up and you shouldn't either! We will do this!! It's just going to take more time than either of us want!

                Re: Under 30 Club?

                Chupa,
As an under 30 member, I too sometimes get a little discourage when I read others results. I have found myself seeking out others like myself to see how their progress is going I cheer everyone on, but am more encourage by those who's stats are closer to mine:age and weight. This forum is a great idea!

Weight loss is really relative. For many of us having to lose 30 lbs is alot for others who have alot to lose 30lbs does not seem like much. I spent the better part of my life being under a certain weight so this 30 extra lbs is alot.

It seems that at our age due to (mental pause) your term on the other forum, and not having alot to lose, 5-7 lbs per month seems to be the norm. Dr A mentioned this in his book. Hey 5-7 is pretty good!!!

                  Re: Under 30 Club?

That damn roll of fat, plus the awful backfat and saddlebags! *yikes!*

I am just completing the 6 Week Exercise Challenge and I lost 5 pounds, so I guess I should be happy that I didnt' gain. And there might be some muscle there, but honestly, women don't gain very much muscle mass, no matter how hard they work out. We can get stronger and firmer, but it isn't likely I traded 5 pounds of fat for 5 pounds of muscle.

I'll hang in there, I swear I will. It might take me 2 more months to lose this last 10 pounds, but I WILL be wearing a swimsuit on my cruise in May, **** or high water!

I'm off to the gym. See ya'll on Monday, and have a great weekend everyone!!

                    Re: Under 30 Club?

from June 03 to Dec 03 I added 7 pounds of lean body mass eating Atkins, doing HIIT treadmilling and BFL weight ligting.

So we can add pounds of lean body tissues as we start out. we just don't keep on keeping on was we get in better shape. congrats on the 5 pounds now how many inches did you lose too?

RationalB, I understand what you say about the cutting back on cals to lose, I have heard others say to eat close to the BMR so that we wont go on a starvation mode, any comments on this anyone?

Hey gals. I'm in the same boat here -- goal was to lose 28 pounds. It's slow but it's happening! Pennido, I've been watching your stats since they're similar and we started around the same time. You're doing great!

I have the same problem. If you look on my signature you can see that I need 15 kg to lose (maybe not so much), it's about 30 pounds. When I first started Atkins diet, I had only 10 kg to lose. Maybe that's why I did give up - my weight loss was too slow. Actually, I'm afraid that it will take a very long time for me to lose those 15 kg. I really need to lose them till the summer, it's about two months and a half. I don't know, - is it possible?

CW: 145 lbs (not following atkins).

Well, that averages out to loosing at least 3lbs a week. I know my body isn't loosing like that but maybe yours can?? Are you exercising?? If you keep exercising faithfully maybe you will be toned up enough to look great even if you haven't lost your total 30lbs?? That's what I'm aiming for. To at least not jiggle!!
