People usually can't peg where I'm from until I say "That's WICKED funny!" or the word "drawers" (drawas).
Yup, I have no "Maine" or "Downeast" accent whatsoever even though I've lived in state nearly all my life (my folks are from away though). People are always commenting on my lack of accent, but God help me, I say "wicked." I can't help myself. "She's wicked silly." or whatever... not with the accent, but just using that foolish word all the time. I think "wicked" just happens to you, and there's nothing that you can do once you've been immersed in it. You just keep saying it and saying it because it's so convenient.

So I'm no fun. I say "chowder" and "lobster."
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

    Vigilance, not perfection.

WICKED COOOOOLLLL!!!! LOL I have a trace left people pick it up in some things I say but I have lived on the west coast for so long it is mostly lost....however when I get home after Speaking Rhode Islandese for a week I will be not only miss my R's but pretty loud for a few days....My poor husband is from the quiet less bold midwest ..when I first took him to Providence he wanted to know why everyone was pisssed off there!!! I was like "honey that is a sign of love if we love you we yell at you!!"

OMGosh! Erin! It's so wicked funny that you used DRAWas/DRAWERS as an example. To this day, I don't know whether the things you pull out of the thing in your bedroom that holds clothing are DRAWS or DRAWERS. Man....
How about trying to learn to spell around here when you're little, and you don't know the difference between FATHA and FATHA (father/farther)!? How about thinking that IDEA was spelled I-D-E-A-R? How about ordering a drink made with VODKAR?

Heidi... Did you LOVE the show PROVIDENCE? It was one of my favorites. That's a great area down there!

Ok I have to tell you guys...about 8 years ago I met this woman my age online in a cooking chat...I was living here on the west coast and she is from Portsmouth RI

..I actually spent a couple of years at a Catholic Girls school there in Portsmouth...I was 15 and 16 years old...(after Lincoln)..anyway they had a hired a 19 year old Janitor with lots of dark curly hair ... green eyes and a body to die for ..and put him in the midst of this all girl school ..half of us were boarding there....it took me two seconds to find him ....I used walk to the end of the road when I snuck out to be with him and he would pick me up and we would take off and go do what teenagers do!

so anyway when I meet this girl online I start telling this story one night ..turns out it is her cousin!!!!! so we kept in touch became great friends....share tons of recipes and have sent each other eastcoast/westcoast food (she sends me chourico and stuffies every year I send her coffee and smoked salmon)...so fun!!!..but every time I have gone home something came up and we could not meet...

today we set a date for this coming Wednesday she is going to pick me up and we are going to have a full day of finally meeting and Portuguese food..wine... and food/wine shopping I am beside myself you guys!!!!

              this is so exciting!!!!

I had wonderful Maine lobster with steamed clams and drawn butter this afternoon ! Hard to imagine while eating it that I can eat "lobsta 'n steemas" and stay on Atkins. It was so good, it seemed like a guilty pleasure! Yes, I'm a Mainiac.

growing up in Prov the "f" bomb was part of my everyday vocabulary it just kind of rolls off my tongue! I still use it pretty freely ....now is that good or bad?...at this point in my life ..who cares!!! it is a very common term in my liine of work actually

I would have fallen into that same f bomb trap had my dad, as mentioned before been an English teacher and a staunch advocate of bigger and better words for expressing your displeasure.
That said, I don't think I said fking qweeya as much as I said fking weeyad.
NP on the thread Heidi! I hope you have a fab time back on your old stomping grounds! I'm counting down to August 12! (And hoping I look fab and much more slender by then! I want to surprise my mom...she's always been my biggest weight loss cheerleader).
