    Re: Cayenne Pepper

Heidi, I guess I got carried away as well but I must say you have a VERY toned stomach. I am very very thin but even my stomach doesn't look like that. You know what's bizarre , I have very think arms and legs and fit into a size 2 but I still have a tiny pooch that will never go away. Genetics maybe?

.No harm this place can take a little getting used to

about my tummy .. ..if you zoom in you can see my stretch marks and scars ...but I really credit eating this way to the fact I do not have a lot of belly fat ..I did not retouch the pics nor did I have any surgery ..God forbid..I did dry brush a lot as I have mentioned ad nauseum... ..I think when I was on a low fat diet I stored belly fat...now I don't ...that is the best part of all of this and the reason a 48 year old woman will flash her tummy in public!!!

I did nothing but follow the Atkins book all the way through ..

2Big...howEVER I never counted my herbs and spices because no matter what you can toss out about this...I believe there is a difference between trading one compulsion for another ..and I also believe ...the bennies of using herbs and spices out weighs the possible 1 or 2 carbs you may add..so I say only if you can not stand to know everything ...let this one go!!!....these wonderful things add varliety and life to your food and work synergistically to help you absorb more nutrients....not to mention your attitude....

gazaleh see what happens here we are really bad!!!!

Hello. I think I may be a lurker at heart, but I just had to respond here. I am SO happy to hear this. I think that from watching the people on TV who weighed alot that I thought I would have to use clothespins to hold up the skin because I could never afford surgery! Aspie1

What did I do??? I'm on your side.....read back through the pages and you will see that mine was a general statement as well I was referring to 2bigs reference to counting carbs in herbs and spices. I simply stated that I see too many people caught up......not you. I'll be more careful from now on. I apologize if you took me the wrong way......not my intention at all.

Now 2big....I agree with you when people start purchasing pre-packaged spices and rub mixtures that is where this stuff adds up definitely......taco seasonings, chili seasonings, etc.

If I sound beastly, I'm not.......ask Betty I'm just passionate.

              I have been fat
              I have been depressed
              I have smoked
              I verged on alcoholism
              I ate M&M's in bed

I have been there and I am here now to help people get out of "there"

My dad also uses this as a healing aide. He used to work in the woods and cut himself with a chainsaw (it slipped and hit his arm...thank GOD not THAT bad considering)anyway, he doctored himself us and used cayanne pepper, within days the cut was beginning to heal...don't get me wrong, he did state it "stung a little" but he uses it all the time on external cuts.

                  Re: Cayenne Pepper

I take these twice a day. I take a pill because I have never been able to tolerate anything spicy (or garlic) - I get a huge pain in the chest like I've tried to swallow a brick. I can manage the cayenne tablets but I've tried garlic tablets and I get the pain reaction from those too. I'd love to be able to eat the stuff but it has been so bad when I've tried that the doctor kept me in the hospital overnight, so I just take the pills and be grateful I can tolerate those.

Cayenne is fabulously good for you and plays a role in clearing cholesterol from the blood vessels. Cannot vouch for the improved metabolism but I feel great after taking it. Caution: it can give a bit of heartburn like pain - just drink lots of cold water or have a spoon of cream or yoghurt if this happens.

I haven't ever smoked, or drank for a long time. But I'm fat, depressed, and I've been known to dump M&M's on the bed in the middle of the night and eat them one at a time until they were gone....

..I did smoke and I do drink but not that much to be honest...I was fat and I have had funks ...and for sure I have eaten M&M's in bed both kinds peanut and regular mixed in a HUGE bowl with pretzels that made me feel more of a funk that a string of bad luck that is for sure ..talk about a carb hangover!!!

one thing I will say ..again and again...I never ever ever counted a single herb or spice carb and I say load up they are good for you and make your food go from boring to bursting with flavor ..and as I have pointed out ad nausium the health bennies out weigh the tiny amt of carbs ...

Analog I am sorry your tummy can not handle you eating herbs and spices and garlic most of all (another thing I never counted because it was so healthy it negated the tiny amt of carb it added to my food)

I'm going to stick with that idea too.... it makes boring food so good, and those few carbs are absolutely nothing compared to the hundreds I was getting every day in the fast food and other junk.

garlic tiny amount? LOL it is almost one net carb a clove and in my garlic cheicken that has 40 cloves that is a lot of carbs not to count. Dr Atkins ranks it in his list of bang for your carbs as the top super nutrient food but again when we allow ourselves carb creep to run wild we run into trouble. Use all the herbs and spices you want but count them in your totals. Having a higher CCLL is a blessing many many low carbers don't have.

2big carb creep is only going to happen if you are eating processed or too much food in general......it is nuts to think that <1 carb in a tsp of a spice is going to matter in a serving for four ...if you buy premade foods and eat too much of any one thing ... then yes it could matter ...

but I respectfully disagree at the need to count herbs and spices when you are cooking fresh foods and eating with in reason....

this idea is what I worry makes people so carb phobic in life is the need to count for a fraction of a carb and have it matter ..if you are eating well all day and if your food is fresh and wholesome then the percentage of a carb from the spices you add is NOT I repeat NOT going to cause a problem no matter what your metabolic function is ...

sugar will yes but I defy you to find one person who eats a wholistic diet that has had trouble with spices causing wt gain or carb creep ...please..

When I first looked up the carb count for garlic I was kind of surprized, because I used alot of garlic in my cooking.

I use herbs, spices, and garlic in my cooking, but I factor their carbs into the total carb count of the dish. Yeah, in small amounts the carb count of the herbs or spices won't affect the overall carb count, but in larger amounts it will.

I remember a newbie posted that they used a tablespoon of ground cinnamon for their mock danish and was shocked that the tablespoon had about 2 net carbs. (I was more shocked they could eat anything with that strong a cinnamon flavor....)
