    Re: Another Week, Another Pound...

Erin, is there a reason why you don't eat whole eggs? I know some folks don't like the yolks. Personally, the yolk is completely the reason why I eat eggs!

Hmmm, to up your protein and not add more fat AND not consume more cheese . . . how about adding more chicken or fish to your diet? Are you eating any red meat? I roast a couple of chicken breasts every few days to have as snacks. Does that help?

I also started a probiotic regimen called Daily Dophilous that I got at Whole Foods. I believe my ratios were a little more in check during induction. I got to that high of a fat ratio, I believe by A. being a complete butter fiend and B. 2 eggs every morning.
Oh I'm sure you are seen the quote from the Atkins folk about the lady who had cinnamon/Spenda butter stick as her nightly snack and didn't lose any weight during induction. Over consumption of fats can have a dramtic effect on us. Eggs are almost a perfect OWL food with nothing added to them. they need just a touch of fat to be a perfect induction food.

FYI any fermented food like pickles and even mayo or mustard can give you the same yeasties issues.

In regards to my original intent with this thread. I am tweaking things by dropping fat and thus upping the protein. It's not that I necessarily want to CONSUME more protein, but as not2late mentioned, it's more just tweaking the ratio.

Other than having egg whites...any other suggestions?
The easiest way is to drop one or two tablespoons of added fat per meal. So, eat those whole eggs, just eat them boiled or poached (no added fat). Whole eggs really need no additional fat because they are about 67% fat.

Instead of using 3 tablespoons of salad dressing or mayo, use only 1. Use 1 tablespoon butter, rather than 2.

Eliminating a serving or two of added fat is the easiest way to decrease the fat percent. The only caveat is to make sure that you keep your carbs the same---if you want the protein to increase, as you decrease the fat.

If a mod felt so inclined to ban me from the forums for complaining about what I have, I wouldn't be surprised. I can think of nothing else that would be a more fitting proverbial icing on the cake than to be banned for speaking out against a militant, judgmental attitude.

As for us being the same person...I'm sure whoever manages the technical aspects of the board can see two very distinct IP addresses if they were to look under the site floorboards. I may be an *** sometimes, but I'm not THAT devious.

I generally don't eat any mayo to begin with.
Stazia I just recently cut out yolks to readjust my percentage, as it was one of the easiest things to knock out. I'm a freak in that I HATE chicken breast (literally more than a few bites and I want to gag). I'm all for dark meat though. Red meat is good and I LOVE fish. Especially sashimi.

Okay then - how about roasting up some thighs? Do you like wings? They make great snacks! Fish is such an excellent food, that increasing it a bit would also be good. I try to keep the red meat to 3 times a week, which is hard for this farmer's granddaughter!

If you take Megs' suggestion and lower your other fats (butter, etc), maybe bringing the egg yolk back would be a good idea. Remember that the yolk is the part of the egg that contains amino acids and vitamins! A heck of a lot more nutrition than a pat of butter! Would that work for you?

I have some wings in the fridge ready to be made into some yummy goodness Stazia. This is my first time ever making them. Have any good recipes?
Thank you for the great suggestions. I'm sure with a little more tinkering I will have it just right.

Well there, you have it: go ahead and have your yolks with your eggs, but try to limet the number of eggs per day to 3 or fewer. Then add away lots of lean red meat and seafood.

I'm a bit of a purist . . . or lazy . . . I'm not sure which! But I like my wings with ranch dressing and a little mustard. I'm sure there are some great recipes on this site -- Heidi is a great one for cooking creativity. Linda's site, http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/, is also good for ideas. A lot of the chicken breast recipes can be modified for thighs and wings!

I used mayo as an example. By the way, in addition to butter, what added fats do you eat and how much of it do you eat?

I was just doing some math and if you ate a 1500 calorie diet with 75% of it coming from fats, that would be about 125 grams of fat. 125 grams of fat translates to roughly 11 tablespoons of butter or about 1 1/4 sticks.

In terms of red meat, the fattier cuts of beef, like a rib eye steak, has only about 7 grams of fat per 3 ounces. So using the above 1500 cal diet with 75% fat, about 51 ounces (about 3 pounds) of the rib eye would yeild about 125 grams of fat. And these values are for raw ribeye, cooking removes some of that fat.

Rib Eye is n0matters FAVORITE cut of meat, so it's had in our household quite a bit though I much prefer filet mignon. Could that be one of the culprits? I can honestly say that I don't eat over a stick of butter a day! I'd say half at the VERY most. I think it comes from little add ins. Like when I make my omelettes, I add a splash of cream. I like to use olive oil to pan sear steaks before throwing them in the oven. My daily breakfast for a while was this fakecake concotion I made with 2 eggs, 2oz of cream cheese, 2T of flax meal, a packet of splenda and cinnamon. That had quite a bit of fat in it...
I also have a thing for having a half of an avocado as a snack but I HIGHLY doubt that's my problem.
I've also been known to eat a spoonful of cream cheese straight up to stave off the hungries.

Erin - how often are you having avocado? It is really high in fat -- and of course really yummy!

I agree with Megs (I think she said this) that doing a little haircut on the butter might help you out. What do you think about that? You are right that the "add-ins" do add up. Are you using FitDay? I found that by being super-diligent about every little thing I was eating, I was able to see when I needed to change.
