    Re: Another Week, Another Pound...

I dunno about the avocados fo snacks - - only eat 1/2 in a day, right? And ribeye has more fat than most other cuts of beef, unless you trim it off.

I eat 1/2 an avocado a day at the most. It's not even a daily thing.
Like I won't have one as a snack today because there was actually some in my egg white omelette.
By the way...kick *** thing to do with egg whites it beat them till their fluffy and make an omelette that way. I'd say I like it better than with yolks.
I saw that on this low carb cooking show on Fit TV.

I'm sorry if I'm being dim, but are you still in Induction? If so, avocado should be an occasional treat, I believe. One of the mods - please correct me if I'm wrong!!

I envy your ability to eat just egg whites. I just can't do it. I'm a weenie!!

Please allow me to correct myself. I found this information on another thread. Sorry for the misinformation. However, please note the second sentence regarding possible weight-loss slow-down!

          "Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat 10 to 20 olives, half a small avocado, an ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods."

Sorry, Erin! I didn't mean to lead you astray!

whiiping eggwhites and cooking them as a crust was an old Atkins technique back in the 70s before the low carb commercial breads arrived.

I know you don't like the read the book folk replies but recheack your DANDR chapter 11 special catagory foods, they come with a note that for some folk they can slow or stop weight loss so if you aren't happy with your rate of loss that is one place to look.

              Re: Another Week, Another Pound...

Technically I'm on OWL, but I've had a bit of a setback in cutting out the only thing that I added from the dairy rung, which was sour cream and nuts (I don't like them without salt, and I'm trying to chill out with the salt) and berries (musn't feed the yeasties). So what I'm left with is more vegetables. Which is harder to accomplish than one might think...I generally do this by having the higher carb veggies like eggplant, etc.

I can honestly say that I don't eat over a stick of butter a day! I'd say half at the VERY most. I think it comes from little add ins. Like when I make my omelettes, I add a splash of cream. I like to use olive oil to pan sear steaks before throwing them in the oven. My daily breakfast for a while was this fakecake concotion I made with 2 eggs, 2oz of cream cheese, 2T of flax meal, a packet of splenda and cinnamon. That had quite a bit of fat in it...
I also have a thing for having a half of an avocado as a snack but I HIGHLY doubt that's my problem.
I've also been known to eat a spoonful of cream cheese straight up to stave off the hungries.
Are you counting the oil you use for searing meat into your daily count? For example, you use 2 tablespoons of oil to sear two steaks. Are you counting 1 tablespoon of oil as part of your steak? See it doesn't make much sense to count it unless you eat the oil in the pan.

According to fitday.com, half a stick of butter has 45.8 grams of fat, half an (Haas or california) avocado about 15 grams, heavy cream about 11 grams per fluid ounce (about 2 tablespoons per fluid ounce), cream cheese about 5 grams per level tablespoon.

You might want to sit down, review all your food, and do some food measuring for a few days to see if you really are eating the amounts you think you are. A "splash" of something can differ from person to person. So my splash might be a 1/4 cup and yours might be 1 teaspoon. Even a "spoonful" can be different person to person because most people use "heaping" spoonfuls, rather than "level" spoonfuls and heaping can double or triple the real amounts.

Interesting. I also have a salt issue, and purchase a salt alternative (NuSalt) which is derived from potassium. Maybe buying unsalted nuts and tossing them with NuSalt? You could do the same thing with Mrs. Dash. A thought, maybe?

Hmmmm, with all those rungs being bypassed, aren't you at the alcohol rung?! LOL!! A martini would be good this morning - well, at least for me!

As Dr Atkins said it is up to each of us if we use those special catagory foods or not as part of our Atkins. I didn't use any of them for the first 100 pounds. Some folk have issues with the sugars in onions and tomotoes as Dr Atkins writes in DANDR. the fellow doing the foodtv low carb show didn';t use any onions for his first yr doing low carb because of the high sugar content in them.

you have to decide just as you did on day 15 how you are going to do your Atkins. some folk want rapid results so they cut all frills out. some folk want to have a luxurious weight loss trip and have cheesecake and all the other high fat extras they can but with a slower trip down the sclaes.

Me, I just love food WAY too much to have just a chicken caesar salad EVERYDAY for lunch. I'd want to cry.

I LOVE fresh foods. Even when I was little my mom would always say "shop around the perimeter of the store". I'm now addicted to Whole Foods like crack. I just came back with my lunch. A spring mix salad from the salad bar that I topped with jicama, red pepper, broccoli, cucumber and 8 medium shrimp from the seafood section. For dressing, 1T of EVOO and 1tsp of organtic apple cider vinegar. All told $4.25. I rock the system at WF.
