Ok so Im GOING to be cheating!

    I won't support other people cheating on their diet because i have no idea on how it will effect them. i will let you know that when i "cheat" i take full responsibility of my actions since it's mine to deal with. I know come november time frame i have a 4 day vacation somewhere in Iraq(from what i hear is a blast) and i intend to let loose and have fun. I won't of course go back to my old ways but i will indulge in food that isn't low carb. Once the trip is over it's back to the diet and i pretend it never happened.

    my opinion is that if you cheat, then you should take full responsibilty of whatever happens to your weight and see what needs to be done to get back on track.

    Started Atkins 01AUG05 @235lbs
    Restarted Atkins 21JUL06 @185lbs
    SW 235lbs CW 158lbs GW 145lbs

    Currently losing weight on a modified low carb diet and vigorous exercise. Let the pain begin!

        yes i'm stationed in Iraq and i'm in the Navy. Qatar(the place where i'll be heading) is know as a rest and relaxation place for military members to take part in once they have done a certain amount of time in a war zone.

            Oh, I got my dates confused

            So It's not too late to give my advice?

            Well - here goes. Five day cheat is too much. Pick just 2 or 3 meals to go off plan. Maybe just one. The shorter your cheat the better chance you have of getting back on track. If it is the pizza, just pick one meal - all bets are off - eat till you puke.

            The other thing to think about is that you are opening the door to become an habitual cheater. Now I know ONE of those that still does well.

            Do you really believe Atkins is the way to go? This first cheat takes a great opportunity in NY. Next time it might be something less special. It might eventually only take something being available.

            Have you cheated before on purpose?

            I admit that once I was slipping and slipping. I decided to have one blow out day. Anything goes and then back on plan. I did it but now I think it was a bit silly.

              Forest, out of curiosity, with only 20 pounds left to lose, what rung are you on?
              Technically if you are on the higher rungs you are not cheating anyway....

                whats a "rung"?

                20 lbs gets me to 190 and at 5'11'' i think thats a perfect weight for me

                  I am focused and determined to get to my goal weight and have incredible willpower when it comes to this type of diet.

                  Atkins is the easiest diest for me to follow because i can eat until im full as long as i eat the right foods. So yes it is the right way to go for me personally.

                  I know ALOT of people that cant handle this diet.

                    Try milo's !!! or per se ( those are probably on some top 10 list ) along with lugers.

                      BTW NY pizza went way down hill in the last 10 years.
                      This is not a racial thing by any means but many of the pizzarias are now not run by italians ( I will leave it at that ). You could see that some quality went downhill.

                        you know whats weird? we are similar on our thoughts and approach on this diet since we are soo close to our goal weight. i do(on the other hand) have a planned cheat day once a week while still maintaining a low carb diet the other six days along with my daily exercise. Still steady with the weight loss because i know i have to workout an extra 30 minutes just to burn off that caramel ice cream i had a few hours ago(for example).

                        i totally agree with the whole personal willpower, it definately keeps me on track on my non cheat days. too many exceptions or cheats consistently leads to failure. i've had my fair share with trial and error thats for sure but i always learn to stand up and try to not make the same mistake and hopefully make a better first choice.

                                Are you serious?

                                As mentioned by barb, not all the foods are necessarily 'illegal' if you were in OWL or premaintainance, which i think you should be. if you have the pastrami on rye, that would be a grains rung food (i love rye bread and do eat it in maintanance). do they have whole grain bagels? again not necessarily an illegal food. I'd avoid white flour sugar etc. try to stick to plan to the most part, and if you really must, try to stick to a higher rung food, the damage wont be as bad.
