I'm not going to add to this topic, but I've just have to post so that I can say how beautiful Juli looks in her new photo. The word "gorgeous" just doesn't even cover it.

Geoff is a lucky, man, indeed!

Have y'all ever heard of the lemonade diet? It's lemonade, cayan pepper (I think, some kind of pepper anyway) and I beieve vinegar??? I don't know if my info is accurate or not but a friendof mine was going to try it. It's supposed to flush out your system. Here's the crazy part (if I listened correctly)...you're supposed to drink this mess for 10 days. Nothing to eat. If I am off somebody tell me because I thought that was complete insanity. Needless to say I didn't try it

What I hate is when Atkins is part of every introduction to "the best way to lose weight", when the say "fads, like Atkins, are not the way to eat, they don't work." They then proceed to introduce the most difficult way to eat (any impossible to stick with)..low-fat, low calorie, AND low carb. The Biggest Loser trainers, you know who you are!!

I agree G-Mom...what I'm wondering is how the participants on the show actually keep the weight off...sure, while they're on the ranch, everything is pretty structured...but man, when they get home, they must want to go hog wild!

                Re: worst diet advice?

The worst dieting advice is probably fasting / extreme low-calorie. Your metabolism plumets and you lose an incredible amount of lean muscle tissue. Another would be temporary dieting as a whole. Some people can pull it off (say people who slipped up due to severe stress, but have previously been physically healthy and energetic) but most people have gained the weight they have based on a combination of lack of dietary discipline and general exercise. If you get someone like that going on a quick-fix, they're simply going to gain the weight back on, and they're actually worse off for having lost a lot of that lean muscle tissue only to replace it all with the same fat and then some.

Yeah, when they go back to their jobs and the real world. I do have to say that Ken did really well when he got home and so did Brian (was that his name?) Those guys looked GREAT in their videos.

One thing that amazed me about the at-home contestants, was that so many of them didn't even really try! I checked their progress, and some barely lost anything.

I think--for me-- the worst advice is "Moderation is ok".

No, it's not. It's not ever ok.

I think the worst advice I ever got was from my grandmother. She is one of those typical, "You're going to eat that?!" mixed with the disapproving look types. She would always go on and on about how she'd been thin as a rail her whole life (though somehow she's in terrible shape and 30 pounds heavier now) because she'd learned how to eat "right" growing up in the wake of the Great Depression.

I usually eat a big breakfast, and it used to be some breakfast cereal and other various food items. Well, a couple years back, she basically told me to skip breakfast. "You shouldn't be eating all that, you need to diet. For 20 years, all I ate for breakfast was a piece of toast, and I weighed 120 pounds. That's the key."

Yeah, whatever. I like this way better.

WORST diet advice I have ever received was by some fellow Atkineers who told me to eat a stick of butter or pats of butter when Hungry! HELLO?!??!! Saturated fat is good, in moderation. IT can cause inflamattion and problems in excess.

Uhh maybe your grandma meant well. I know she didn't say it in the best way but maybe her plan worked for her and she thought it would help you with your weight loss. There's no need to put others down for their plans, that's like them putting you down for being on Atkins.....

I agree with Twilight--it's been proven that breakfast is the most important meal of the day--it jumpstarts your metabolism and "wakes you up" for the day. Eating a larger breakfast also keeps you fuller and you might even eat less during the day.

All I know is, a single piece of toast would NEVER do it for me!

I have gotten such a kick out of the commercial for one of the diets being touted now.

Their "secret" is the GLYCEMIC INDEX! WOW what a revelation!

Also, I love to read the small messages at the bottom of the ad.

                              "results not typical"

and for only $10.00 a day for the food (of course in the small print it states that you have to supply the dairy/fresh veggies/fruit etc etc.)

                              OH PLEASE!!

Worst diet advise I ever received. "Don't do Atkins, it will kill you". Worst diet I was ever on was in the 70's. The doctor had me on pure speed and 800 calories. Oh yeah, I could do that the rest of my life.........NOT!

OMG, I did that too. Little black pills. I didn't sleep, chewed my cuticles to shreds and had the cleanest house in the county. And I lost some weight but goodness, that will kill you. Funny thing is while I was taking those pills I was doing my own version of low-carb. I think all I ate was cottage cheese and hot dogs.
