I tried something like that, as well, many years ago. Basically, I wanted to go out and wash down the whole garage, with a sponge. I couldn't eat, at all, but drank liquids non-stop and smoked like a chimney all day. The sleepless nights were miserable.

But, as Mystical said, my place sure was clean!

A long time ago (about 5 years ago), I asked my doctor about Meridia and she said that insurance won't cover it and its REALLY expensive, so she gave me a script for "something else". I can't remember what it was but I think it was like speed. I took it to the pharmacy and and the pharmacist looked at me funny and said that drug had been discontinued FOR YEARS.

Needless to say, I never went back to that Quacktor.

I'd have to say the worst diet plan I ever got was from my own doctors...the 1200 calorie diet. The "starve yourself and be hungry all day" diet

I'm thinking I've been on that one a couple of times...felt like I was herded into the scale like wild cows or something. Never any privacy and always pushing their labeled crap.

                  Re: worst diet advice?

My own worst diet experience was the cabbage soup - and like many people, I never got past the 3rd day either.

The most annoying thing I've seen about Atkins was a TV show called 'Diet Doctors' (I think) where in the same show they had a piece about a woman who 'had nearly died' from Atkins - but it turned out she'd had three fry ups a day and lost a lot of weight very quickly and so had loose skin which she had surgically removed. Her wound got infected and it was very dangerous, which is obviously bad, but not, I would say a direct result of the Atkins diet.

They also had a thing about an athlete who was obviously, very healthy, and they had him eat a huge load of red meat every day on top of what he usually ate and surprise! he gained weight and felt ill which was used as evidence that 'high protein diets don't work and are bad for you'. I felt really mad about it - they should at least try and be vaguely scientific before they make these programmes! And people will be influenced bu them. Grr!

                    Re: worst diet advice?

My parents did weight watchers, and I wanted to lose some weight too (this was in the 90s at some point), so I just filled out the charts to track what I ate, I didn't go to meetings. My mom explained how veggies were unlimited, each box was a serving of food, what amount equalled a serving, etc. I think I attempted this plan for about 4 days.

So basically what I would do was eat all of my meat and carb requirements for the day--especially carb servings, those went quickly--but I would still be hungry--I might add a piece of fruit, but usually what I did was keep eating servings of bread, but filling in the boxes for other categories. LOL. I remember eating 6 dinner rolls one night and filling in 3 veggies, 3 fruits.

I will have you know that I don't cheat like that on Atkins...in fact, I don't cheat at all. I don't have to!

Here's a good one my very own mom told me when I was in high school. She said she lost weight when she was in high school by only eating a candy bar and a coke for lunch and nothing else the rest of the day. Yeah I lost weight starving myself by skipping meals and whole days of not eating. I also gained blackouts in the morning for 2 or 3 years afterwards.

I was on Metabolife for a while as a teen, and THAT is some scary stuff. I finally figured out that maybe I should get off it when I started having heart palpitations. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that stuff was chock full of ephedra, and I'm glad I was only on it for a short while.

Also, have you guys seen that commercial for Lipozene? The "miracle" pill that they charge out the keister for? It's nothing but glucomannan - the stuff that shirataki noodles are made from! I guess the fiber keeps you full longer, so you eat less. But still, why pay so much for it when you could just eat some shirataki for 99 cents a bag?

I've never been on WW. My MIL is/was and it worked, but I don't know if that's a lifestyle I could do long term.

worst diet advice ever.....when I was a little girl and my mother told me to "clean my plate" or she "rewarded" with food.

Actually, Lisa (or, should I say "Juliette?") I was really referring to the statement about always being hungry. When I did WW, that's how I was. I would go to bed at night thinking about the next day's breakfast, and after having that breakfast, I'd begin fantasizing about what I'd be eating at lunch. I was always so hungry that I couldn't get food off my mind. Now, you know, a weight loss plan like that can not possibly achieve long term success!

That's exactly how I felt being on the 1200 calorie diet. It just felt like "deserved" punishment for being overweight, which is awful!

I will say that I have tried some WW frozen dinners, a long time ago. But after eating one, I'd still be hungry so it didn't do me any good.
