Re: Check in & Reporting Thread for All NEW YEARS Atkineers!

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I restarted induction on January 2 (had to eat the blackeyed peas and greens on the 1st). I have done atkins a few times over the years and in 2003 lost 50 lbs and felt better than I have since high school! In 2004 I got pregnant with my 3rd baby (a beautiful baby girl to go along with 2 beautiful boys) and strayed from the plan during pregnancy. After I had her in 05 I started atkins again but could not lose much weight so I would get discouraged, quit, then try again a month or two later-still with no luck. So I gave up. And now I am so determined to make it work because I do love the diet, but, 8 days since starting again and only 1 lb. gone. I am SOOO frustrated!! Any suggestions on how to jumpstart the weight loss for the multiple timer? Has any one else had this happen and get out of it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! By the way I'm back up to needing to lose about 55-60 lbs now!

      Hi Everyone,

Glad to have reassurance that the power surge everyone speaks of is just around the corner, i'm feeling so tired the past few days. However, food wise everything is going great, i'm not hungry at all. I haven't stepped on the scales yet. I think il wait till i've got to day 14. Day 7 now, so half way there.

Re: Check in & Reporting Thread for All NEW YEARS Atkineers!

hey! ok so today is day 11 for me and my fiance. as some of you read in my other post, yesterday got really hard. i was so frustrated i wanted to give up. but i knew i would feel terrible. thanks to your encouraging words and tips, i got through it and am holding my head high today. i didnt have time for breakfast today and i'm really upset about that. i'm having a decaf coffee...and i'm sooo hungry. i might have a string cheese to hold me over.

anyway, i'm still at 200 pounds on the dot. i want soooo bad to get below 200...i think i'll have a party when i do! any tips?? i think i may be having a bit too many sweeteners...but i dont get sugar cravings or anything. and maaaaybe i'm having an ounce or two more cheese than i should...think that could be it?? i'm gonna work on it, starting today!

i tried a sugar free peanut butter cup yesterday, actually i had half a serving (about 3 pieces)...boy will i never do that again! went right through me, if ya know what i mean!

ok, and a question for my fiance. his starting weight was 245. today is day 11 for him as well. he was down 5 pounds to 240 and was real happy...however, this morning (two days after seeing 240) the scale read 245 AGAIN! i dont want him to get upset...hes been doing better than me actually. hes been going to the gym every day, lifting and cardio. he does notice his clothes are loser, and i see a difference. i hope its muscle...or just a bad morning weigh-in.

wow what a long post! i'm sorry for rambling...just giving my update! thanks for reading!

I started New Years and I've lost 6.2 pounds. I can see and feel a difference. My blood sugars are normalized. Other than PMS my moods are much better. I will be doing an extended induction..

day 10 for me. i feel pretty good - no cheating. am working trying to cut out the splenda from my coffee... decaf coffee that is.

hey, i have to state for the record that i don't feel this "burst of energy" that everyone gets. hmmmm... maybe it's more psychological than physical, but i don't know. i would still take a 3-hour nap in the middle of the day if i could.

              hi everyone,

Day 8, whaoo i've passed the half way mark! I can't believe how NOT hungry I am its great. I'm even surprised I'm not having coffee/sugar cravings. There must be something in this diet! But like Lulubell, I'm sooo tired. I went ot the gym yesterday to see if i could build up some energy but i felt worse after it.

I stepped on the scales in the gym even though i was gonna hold out till next thursday and I'm the same weight????? I don't understand it. Surely i should have a pound off at the very least! I really thought i'd lost a few pounds, maybe I was just imagining a flatter stomach this week. Well I'm not giving up il keep going till next thursday and hopefully something will have shifted. It's lucky i cleaned out my cupboard before i started or i would have thrown in the towel last night.

Positive thoughts though. Heres to next week.

I could have written this all but the third baby part - I lost almost to goal in 2003 (40+ pounds) and re-started SO many times after I began to gain it back...I never stuck with it more than 3 days and ususally would start out fine until evening and cave...because of that, I too started back on Jan 2 with almost 60 to lose

I am not counting anything officially until day 15, but so far this time I am losing even better/faster than in 2003. What's different between then and all the false starts and now?
                  1) I started exercising from day 1
                  2) I pretended that I didn't do this before and I read and re-read the book before a single food or beverage crosses my trap.
                  3) I started with at least 3 liters of water a day from day 1.

In 2003, I lost about 11 pounds of the 45 I wanted to lose over 14 days of induction. That put me in the low resistance category. However, I didn't drink nearly enough water and I didn't exercise...if someone asked me, I would have said that not drinking enough water and not exercising clearly wasn't hindering my loss - ...considering this go round I believe I was definitely wrong!

All of that is to say that it is worth the time and effort to go through the book over and over and look at your foods with a fine tooth comb and make sure that there isn't anything in there that might be holding you back. Looking back on all of my failed re-starts, I was NOT really doing things to the letter. I was in denial about that just like I had been about regaining the weight.

You know that you can be successful on this WOE - you've done it already! Hang in there and chug that water! and come to this board whenever you feel the urge to vent or veer off your plan! Best wishes on your Atkins journey!

Ok... Now to follow up on some posts as best as I can:
(until someone who knows WAY more than me can give you a better answer!! LOL)
Welcome kjones74 to your first post!! Glad you came out to join us Sounds like you have a beautiful family! I think that your body will just take time to adjust, I’ve read that when you back and forth it will do that. You CAN still do this, you will just have to be a bit more patient! Have you found your way over to the STAC yet? Be sure to check them out too. That is the second time around club - Here is a link - I’m sure they will have some ideas for you. (I see LOTS of stickies with advice!!) Good luck! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=82

Hi Ke15 - How are you today? I hope you are feeling better. Believe me I think we have all been there - it is O.K. to vent once in awhile. I think it is Adena who calls it sending out the FAT signal and someone will come along to help. Looks like you had a great response and very helpful ideas for you! Yeah, that is why I Love ADBB!!

I would be sure to keep your limit of 3 sweeteners as an occasional "treat" only. Even though they may not cause you to have cravings, I think they could cause your losses to slow - Again, everyone is different though. Anytime I stop losing, I immediately review my journal and evaluate what I have eaten differently that may have caused it, then I take it completely out of my menu for a few days. Then add items back in slowly and you can usually find the trigger. Anyway, if you are not eating sweeteners everyday, this will be much easier to do. Same with the cheese. I fondly remember an affair I had with pepper jack cheese in week two of my induction. I thought it was the next best thing to S*X... Well, you know - I was eating too much so I just stopped myself all together - worked like a charm. You are doing great though! This is exactly what I think induction is about - LEARNING what YOUR body can handle - within the plan guidelines!!

Welcome MelissaF-07!!! - Glad you are feeling good - those (what I call) "withdrawal" moods can be tough! Congrats on your 6.2 lbs!! Whooo Hoo!! Stinks having the TOM on induction - (I did too!) I’ve heard that Evening Primrose oil may work for moods during this time. I think it helped me but who knows? I am the queen of mood swings on TOM - so it could have been anything!! LOL!! Glad you are here!

Lulubell - Hi! Great job on Day 10 and no Cheating!! Way to go!! I think it will come - everyone is different! I can’t wait to hear about it when it does!

colleenmag - Hang in there! So glad you didn’t throw in the towel last night - YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS!! It takes everyone a different amount of time. Give your body the full 14 days! Even if you do not lose a few lbs. At first, if you are feeling better, clothing is fitting better and you are exercising - this is all good. Scales are beasts anyway!! If you have just started exercising, you are coverting fat to muscle. You are doing great!! I’m so proud of you for going to the gym even when you didn’t have the energy! Great job!

Ok Now EVERYONE - AT the Same time - LETS DRINK OUR WATER!!!
                    Stella

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the encouraging words. I have been having a problem getting my water in everyday and I think I may use splenda a little too much. I haven't started back exercising yet (I do plan to)! I am definitely going to get through this rough spot!! Good luck to everyone else!

Hey kjones! Water is hard at first but it will get easier. I had never in my life been much of a water drinker. I REALLY disliked it. At first I had to make myself drink my 64 oz and it was really hard. Soon though I started to crave it! Now the more I drink the more thirsty I am! Always thought that was strange because sometimes I used to go 1/2 of the day with nothing to drink at all. Now every 5 min. I take a few gulps.

I do find that I still can not drink it out of regular glassess. I have those clear hard plastic 32 oz. Nagelene (I think) bottles. I carry one with me everywhere - I have one I keep at work too.

Good luck - you ARE doing it!!

                              Hello everyone,
Yes, we are all doing great! I do wish I could give more support by logging on more and actually spending time browsing this community. Perhaps on Sunday I will. I am not even counting days or lbs anymore...ooops, heehee. I am just trying to focus on eating correctly. I am eating all the acceptable foods but now I have to eat less. That is my next goal...eat less but ONLY eating acceptable foods. I am also trying to be more creative with my dishes...lastnight, I did a bacon with green peppers and onions "tingy" haha. It tasted nice to me!
                              Have a productive day everyone!!!
