  • What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

I was just wondering if anyone else out here had any stories about the rude and insensitive people we have encountered along the way. I have several "Horror Stories" about being embarrassed, or humiliated because of my weight and wondered if anyone out here would like to share? I know this sounds negative, but I think it can be a positive so we all know that it is not just us, that we are all affected by this. If you don't like this idea by all means do not post, but, if you would like to share some of the things that motivated you to be here, by all means get it OUT!

Re: What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

I will start. At the time my new Sister-in-Law (the B*#@% from H@**)
It was Christmas Dinner and she came and brought her friends and her children with her joining the other about 25 people that were there. I had prepared the entire supper by myself and I was exhausted. When I say supper it was an expansive 2 Buffet tables long, help yourself of anything you can thing of. I finally went and sat down to rest when in walks the SiL with her kids. Everyone has eaten at this point and the compliments are flying and I guess she could not handle it because in front of the entire friends and family group she yelled at her children from across the room, "EEeeWW, don't sit by her she stinks, all fat people stink get away from her!" the room fell silent and I went from the happy bliss of everyone enjoying my food to being so humiliated that I have never cooked or attended any family get togethers since. Not one person there said one word to her. I asked my husband (He was not there for the show) if I smelled and he said I was sweaty was all. I cried myself to sleep that night and I have hated her every since.
I miss the babies, but they have all but grown since then.
This is only one of many.
    Love, Light and Blessings

Hi Suesue, Oh that must have been so hard. I know when I get rude comments about my weight, I'm depressed for days. I get allot of kids in stores saying things like "hey mommy, look at that fat lady".
I also wanted to tell you that your buffet meal sounds like my Christmas and Thanksgiving meals. I'm cooking for day and then almost to tired to enjoy the meal. You must be a wonderful cook. I bet they all missed your meals when you stopped.
I'm sorry I don't have any advice on how to handle rude people. I've been dealing with it for years also and still don't handle it very well. Just want to give you a big hug.

Re: What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

Ahhh!!! Thank You Susan. I have to tell you that is a really nice name you have there . I may just be able to remember it since we share it. LOL
Yes, I can not imagine if heavy people went around constantly making snide comments to skinny people. I bet someone would sue! I hate how movies place fat people at the butt of almost all the jokes. Making out like if your fat your stupid, illiterate or both. It is discrimination but because people view weight as a choice it is just pushed under some rug and left.
Shallow Hal really irritated me was it me or was she not a lot heavier than she was suppose to be?
I know a lady who is 375lbs. at 5'5" tall and get this...She says she hates fat people! I think maybe it is a self loathing thing, but I just don't know. I was hired by a lady and I did work for 5 months and then one day I was called, by another provider mind you, to let me know my services would no longer be needed. When the story was finally told she fired me because I was heavy! She hired be because I was the only person in this <500 town that would work for what she paid and would come 7 days a week and at a moments notice, AND until she could find a trim person. She found a lady that was average size and I was canned. First time in my life I was ever let go! It was a real painful period for me. She told me that my work was above and beyond what was called for (over achiever right here) but that she was afraid I would break something and she did not like to have people see me in her house it was embarrassing. I was down for days, it really broke my heart for many reasons mostly because I needed to make aliving at the time and it was the only job for miles. I got past it for the most part but it has taken me 4 years to not want to go and tell her what I thought of her. Time lessens hurt but does not erase it.
Well, better get off here for now.

It was from the sweet lips of my son several years ago, when i was 30 pounds heavier than now...I was taking a bath minding my own business when he walked in on me. He proceeded sweetly to say, "momma, were you born fat????"

Well I went to a private Christian school and still have those friends from that school and I have grown close to many of their families as well. My parents are Christians also and so are my sisters (I am also, if anyone was wondering). My point I guess is that I don't really run into much humiliation or embarrassment. Everyone is very nice and no one ever brings it up.

In fact, the most embarrassed I have ever been around them is when someone brings up a fat comment or mentions a womens small breasts, I think in my head that the rest of the room is thinking of me being overweight and my man-boobs. However, they never say it.

Yes, that hurts also, but at least when it comes out of the mouth of babes you know it is innoscent not like adults that do it to intentionally to hurt you. Like the men that Moo at women in the store. Have you ever seen Fried Green Tomatoes? Well that car scene is a replay of my friend Marie's reaction to a smartelic guy in Olathe, Co. She watched him leave and then politely said excuse me and proceeded to mash his car with hers several times and then came back in and finished shopping until the police arrived. Our local cop told her he had to ticket her for the damages until the store manager told him how the guy was harrassing her and then he told the guy that he would ticket her but that he was going to get a ticket also for ??? ( it equaled harrassment in public ) the guy said he wanted to forget the whole thing. Over right? Wrong... Dumb A** had a warrent, so she got off and he went to the pokey. We still laugh to this day about it. DISCLAIMER "Don't try this at home, this stunt was done by a really luck *Phat Woman*

Suesue, (That was my nickname in high school. Don't ask me why )
Isn't it funny how it's against the law to be prejiduce against blacks and the like but people can treat the overweight any way they please. That just really sucks she would do that to you. I've never gotten fired because of my weight but I think I was never hired because of it. It's a hurt that the skinnys of the world could never quite understand.

What happened (with respect to the job situation) was WRONG! but weight is an option. Most people can lose weight - Black people can't change their skin color by eating different.

This is so true, but people can not lose the weight overnight so they do get a taste of what others suffer. I however, am one of those people that could never lose weight until this WOE. So, if I had never found this WOL I would be stuck in this shell for life. Maybe there is a different reaction to it too, I mean I have never heard any of my friends wanting to kill themselves because of color, but it happens all the time with people that are burdened with excess weight and see no hope. I have seen women moo'ed at, people beeping when your backing up a grocery cart, stepping in front of a heavy man at a fast food restuarant and telling him back off fatty you can afford to wait a little longer. If you have a valid complaint face that person, but to use color, size, abilities or anything else is just wrong, and I hope every single person who does so reaps exactly what they sew. Ok, I will get off my bandwagon now.
MoreStylish you commented on man-boobs, hows this I have lost 50 lbs. and can you guess where I lost it? Floppsie and Moppsie!!! Just disgusting. My husband has started a savings jar He says when I reach goal he is buying the girls a "MakeOver"
What the heck I might just let him as long as he includes the tummy tuck, inner thigh, and flapping arm wings to go along with it. Lets face it how attractive would the girls be if they were surrounded by all that other stuff. Soooo....maybe I had better help him save...heehee

"So when is your baby due?"m That was the worst thing though well intentioned.

Worse than what wassaid though was the absolute knowledge that my kids were ashamed that their mother was fat all during their school years. They never said so directly, but I could always tell from little comments and behavior. Well they are pretty proud of me now!

It is understood what you mean by prejudices against African Americans and "the like" but lets bring this back into perspective. Prejudice against someone's ethnicity is TOTALLY not in the same stratosphere as a person's body composition. I think it is absolutely necessary to make that distinction. Again, I understand the intent of the analogy but there is no comparion.

At any rate, I have been called elephant britches, asked what size bra I wear and even told by my brother that I sweat bacon grease (goof ball)! That brother is my TWIN brother, by the way. We are fraternal twins and his physique is WAY more muscular. He has the nerve to look like Jean Claude Vandamme! (Yes I am a little ticked by that!) He works hard to look that way, though, I do not blame his idiotic tendencies for my present conditioning.

What if the person is happy with themselves and doesn't want to change?

I agree with you to a certain extent, but when you look at the broader picture, both are just discriminating against how someone looks. The overweight people can change, but they shouldnt HAVE to in order to keep their jobs. The premise that skinny people are better than fat people is the same kind of hateful, intollerant behavior as racism.

although i do agree that they are on different levels, and it might be inappropriate for someone overweight to say they have experienced the same thing as someone who has been racially discriminated against, I can certainly see some similarities.

My two worst comments happened back to back.

First, I pulled up at a convenience store and got out of the car, a guy coming out blurted out "Oh my god!" and backed up in shock when he saw me.

The very next day I was at a fair. Standing there minding my own business while looking at this huge draft horse. Guy walks behind me and says, "Wow, something that weighs more than you do."

I accept the fact that I'm pretty much the biggest human being most people have ever seen, but it still hurts and it limits where I go and what I do. People stare all the time.
