Parsnips are one of the OWL rung 8 veggies. You CAN have turnips and celeriac (celery root) on induction though which make passable fries.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Morning all - just checking in. In spite of the way I've been eating the last few days, I AM still "on Atkins." I've just had a few high carb days! (there is a spaghetti rung, right?)

robin - stick it out. That feeling DOES pass, usually in the first week. I ocassionally have days where I feel light headed and it seems to be on days where my calorie count is really low, so you might check that (I track on Fitday).

Aleby - welcome to the buddy list!

Hope everybody has a good day.

Robin...on induction you can have zucchini fries. Or try green bean fries. I have tried the zucchini fries and Bill has tried the green beans. Both get a thumbs up on this list.

Mike...dahling...baby...what the heck is going on? what are you telling yourself when you are making those choices?? You know that all that food is not going to be off limits forever. Tell yourself you are choosing not to have it right now but you will again in the future. The only way to break the addition is cold turkey right now. You got to stay on plan 100%. You are so worth it! Believe it and do it!! Good for you for staying on the boards while you are struggling!!!

Elizabeth...appetite suppression is one of the great side effects. Make sure you are eating enough. Great job staying on plan at the work conference.

Morning everyone!! This week sure has been slow here.

Elsie - I'd blow it in the morning, then fall into the trap of thinking "well, this day's shot - might as well have some of this." Self-defeating, I know. The first 2 hours of the morning are my danger zone - if I can make it to 8:00 am, I'm usually ok.

Happy Tuesday and welcome to all of the new buddies!

DH and I are now on Day 9 of Induction. We made a decision last night to stick with Induction for a month before moving to OWL. I'm still scared to get on the scale, but I do feel good in clothes. I guess that's what matters most. DH has definitely lost weight. A pair of shorts that couldn't fit him about a month ago, now fit perfectly!

I'm trying to get DH to build up his water intake. That's his downfall. He'd rather drink everything else but that. He said to me last night "Well I drank 2 glasses at work," and was proud of himself. I had to laugh as I made him drink another glass right in front of me. If anyone has ideas on how to help me help him drink more water, that would be great.

As for me, I'm at about a little over 3 liters a day, but I like drinking water.

Mike...let's try to come up with a plan to help you start your day successfully. Is the problem at home or on the way to work or at work??

Carmella...don't worry about the scale until your induction is over. Then step on it to see did and refer to page 158 (my book) to see what your resistance is. After that you don't have to weigh until you want to. You may want to do once a month...or whatever. Water...DH should be drinking his through out the day. No good downing it all at once at night just so he can say he drank it all. Some people to really well with a water bottle. Others prefer glasses. some like a slice of cucumber in their water. Sounds weird but gives it a nice taste. Some like it at room temp. Some cold. Would he prefer the water bottles like you buy by the case? Gives him a visual of how much he has to drink and I would refill them a few times to help save the landfill and to save my money...LOL! After awhile it will become a habit for him. He'll be grabbing one to drink on the way to work before you know it. I keep a filled water bottle by the puter at all times. It disappears before I even know it.

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't checked in in a while. I have a new guy in my life and we've been spending a lot of time together (hee hee! ) Things are going well but I had a few slip-ups over the weekend and ended up knocking myself out of ketosis (I had some mimosas at brunch.) I'm going to do induction until I get back into ketosis (hopefully it will only take me a day or two) and then back on to the nut rung. I'm started week 2 of C25K today and that is going well. Hope everyone is doing well.

Sassy - if you have any question about sweeteners, ask Sherri. She's kind of an expert on them. She turned me on to xylitol which I now use all the time, along with erythritol. They are all natural and very good, plus they have a ton of health benefits. I use a honey substitute called "Tastes Like Honey" made from xylitol that is delicious. You can order it from Carbsmart:
CarbSmart.com - Get "Carb Smart" at CarbSmart! Low Carb, Sugar Free, and Diabetic Foods
I order stuff from there all the time. Just a warning to people ordering from there though - they have an "induction friendly" section and most of the stuff on it is not actually induction friendly. So be careful and read those labels.

Mike--Mornings are tuff--what time you eat dinner? maybe later will work for you? or get up earlier and either enjoy your full breakfast--or work out? (boy that was easy to say!! LOL--getting it done tho? )
I am still struggling with schedule myself--I am now excercising in the early A.M.(mostly to avoid the hot, hazy, humid miserable day)--but found I wasn't eating anything till 2 p.m sometimes not till
                    4 p.m.--skip lunch and dinner was 8-9 pm--clearly didn't work!
almost back to reasonable times by eating small meals thru out the day--

Re: Buddy List July 28 - Aug 3

                        Hi everybody,

I haven't checked in for awhile. It's been a really busy time for us--we moved, plus we run a business and summer is our busiest time of year.

Considering all that, I feel like I'm doing pretty well vis a vis Atkins/health.

I am having a little difficulty completing a 2 week clean induction. I stay 20 grams of carbs or less, but have been occasionally drinking alcohol (very moderate usage, but I know that's "cheating").

Still, the weight is coming off.

And today, for the first time, I felt like we were living in a house instead of simply "wading through rubble" (due to almost non-stop sorting and moving and getting rid of stuff on my part), so I walked to work today. It's around 4 miles, it took me a little more than an hour, and it was great!

So, I'm still going to try for a clean 2 weeks, but not stress too much about it.

Hope all is well with everyone,
                        Ruth
