        Congratulations, Gillart!!

This WOE is such a blessing, once you get the hang of it.

Today was the 1st time I saw this thread, and at the post #1, you had me worried a few minutes... Whew!

((Dis ain't a no carb diet!!)) If you follow DANDR, this is the kind of eating you can do for life, once you've gone through the rungs of OWL, and not have to worry about gaining all your weight back with come-pound interest!!! LOL (That's what happened to me repeatedly when I tried the protein-sparing fast and other quick fixes once I got bored and quit... all that happened waould be a few pounds off, my body learned how to slow the loss down and also how to gain weight faster than a speeding bullet!)

Good luck, C'ya round (((oops- U round- on the board! )

Re: I'm about to quit after 15 days Carb-Free...

Well I "stopped" dieting for Dec. 23-30 and you know what? I sort of missed the diet. As I ate Christmas cookies and had bagels for breakfast I wasn't like "OH YEAH! I'VE MISSED THIS!" it was more like "This crap tastes so bad for me and I'm not really even enjoying it", and almost right away I started feeling worse, physically and emotionally. I also gained 4 pounds back in only a week (SEE: Drake's Cakes). So screw you bad carbs - you're not going to own me again. I'm back on induction - day 3 - so I can destroy this 4 lbs plus 10 more. I have some sugar withdrawal headaches but they feel good because that's what I had 2 months ago when I started this thing then lost 20 lbs. Let's do this!

Good for you sticking to it and getting where you wanted to be, I'm so happy for you. Also I know what it's like to allow myself those "treats" of regular sugar loaded cookies and junk, be SO careful, because for me it was the total "kiss of death", even the tiniest taste can ruin it for me, and has...I lost 80lbs on low carb, then went back to my old habits and gained more than half back, and my body is not thanking me for it, I can't breathe when I walk across the floor, I'm always tired, eveyrthing hurts, its not good for you, so kudos to you for getting back on the wagon, and remember its a life style change, not a quick fix! CONGRATULATIONS and good luck to you!

It's tough on the road. I travel a couple of weeks a month and it gets hard at night in the hotel. Just picked up a ball of mozzarella and a cucumber - that'll have to do.

I'm on Day 10 of re-induction and I've lost the 4 lbs from Xmas. Back to 198 (-19).

Sugar free jello, cheese sticks, and slim jims helped me when I did a lot of traveling (I spent weekends in Flagstaff w/ my b/f, before we married) also, I know this might sound disgusting if you don't like them, but pork rinds were a major convenience, too. Full meals are different, you can't pick up a steak from a vending machine, but atkins shakes were good, you can pick up boiled eggs from any deli usually, and if you have a microwave in your hotel room you can do steamed veggies from the frozen foods and ready to eat bacon - hope that helps

Thanks all (as usual). Pork Rinds are a new additon to the diet for me and boy can they fill you up! And every late night gas station seems to have a bag somewhere. So much better than cheating.

~Day 85 and I'm -20. (217/197) New goal: 187. Can I really lose 30 pounds? WHAT A GREAT FEELING TO BE THINNER! SO AWESOME!

Day 135 or so. I've been maintaining for a good several weeks now.

                          217 is now 194 (-23 lbs).

Chugging water all the time makes a huge difference.

Re: I'm about to quit after 15 days Carb-Free...

I am no pro but, with exercise have you taken any measurement?? I was disheartened to see no loss in weight but, I was losing inches. Atkins is pretty amazing at helping you build lean body mass. It is totally different for those who do not exercise and those who do. I would go months without losing but, in the end would be down 2-3 pant sizes. Now if I went by my weight I would have quit long before I started.

There are more ways of guaging progress than the scale. The scale is the worst. You can flutuate 5-8 lbs in a day just from eating too much salt and not enough water or by exercising in the way you are. Your body will retain fluid for repair. It is crucial that you, especially if you are working iout at the intensity you are suggesting you drink tons of water. I mean more than the recommended. For every 15 minutes of vigorous exercise you should be drinking 1 glass of water. It will not oly help your body say, ok I am not dehydrated it is not critical I hand onto this weight, I can let it go. Try drinking more for a week. I am guessing your body is in panic mode from not drinking enough and can't get rid of all the toxins and ketons and fat in your system. Water will help your body flush all the crbage and start to losing.

                              Hi Gillart
Im on my 4th week and in a stall.I lost 6 lbs the first week then 1 or 2 lbs since. It is frustrating if you dont see the results after doing everything right. From past experiances i know that you can go weeks and not lose a pound then whosh a whole bunch is gone. The worst mistake i have is looking at the scale every week.If your in ketosis you are burning body fat, thats the important thing. The weight will come off if you are doing what you say, trust me.

A note for those who might be mislead by this, although I am quite sure this does not apply to you, Gillart.

Just because the ketostix register ketones does not mean one is necessarily burning body fat. It could be dietary fat (e.g. if you are eating more calories than your body needs and most of these come from fat, most of the ketones will come from lipids you ingested). Even drinking alcohol can give you a "false" positive. I don't want to hijack the thread, so here is more about ketostix for those interested:

Gillart, congratulations for losing 23 lbs!
