Amen Kathi22. There are things I am confused about and afraid to ask for fear of the response I might get. So I just try to figure it out myself.

Re: I can see it happening to the newbies...

I'm at a loss trying to figure out why people get bored on this WOE -- the food has ACTUAL FLAVOR....it's not cardboard tasting or fake tasting. I haven't had the same thing more than 2 times in 3 weeks and the only reason I had it more than once was because it tasted so good the first time!!!

At night before I go to bed I do my posting for exercise challenges then I make up my menu for the next day. On nights I didn't do this I was trying to figure out what to eat the entire day and I don't like that feeling. I went to the sites where the recipes are and if something was induction friendly (and I really wanted it now) I took out whatever wasn't legal or substituted cauliflower for it.....it's amazing how many different flavors you can get out of cauliflower! I change up my salad ingredients so it doesn't taste the same everyday...I go out of my way to make food interesting. I don't want to sabbotage myself before I get very far along on the plan. I can honestly say I look forward to eating everyday because I love what's on my plate.

Thanks for the straight talk Chef....I think it was a needed sobering dose of tough love for those who need it!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE don't stop asking questions regardless of how odd they seem. As suggested before, if you don't like the direction a post is going just don't follow it. Don't let a few people discourage you. Post on another forum, or for goodness sake, PM me... (I remember being a newbie) I can only give you my opinion. I may refer you back to the book for clarification but I'll be darned if I'm going to criticize you or any other newbie. You will eventually gain confidence in this WOE.. stay positive you CAN do this! I kind of look at this like a fine wine.. as it ages (grows) it gets better and better. Everyone, no matter how seasoned in this woe learns something new on occasion.

That's too bad. I'd think that people taking the time out of their day to share their experience and the things and attitudes that brought them success would be a good thing- even if it's not always what you want to hear.

That said....it does make me sad that anyone would feel that way. If that's truly the case, the search feature here is an amazing tool. I haven't seen a question asked that the search feature wouldn't grab 12098354092834098 responses on.

Totally agree, when I have a question.... I first search. I love it!

Re: I can see it happening to the newbies...

I am new to this site but not new to Atkins, however, having done it before I still have TONS of questions and not once have I felt criticized or attacked in any way here, I have been so inspired and encouraged, reading others stories and getting advice. I am very grateful at having found this site. I am not afraid to ask a question, because I believe the only stupid question is the one that you don't ask...and if I ever get a snippy answer, well, you know what, it's the internet and this is a huge board and there are a lot of people here who are positive so it's a great place to ask and learn about low-carb lifestyle. I think what you posted, Chef, was a wonderful "HELLO" to everyone, not just newbies, there are a lot of options, we just have to put the effort into to it, it's worth it because we are talking about our lives, our lifestyles, our self esteem, our health, all that good stuff, so you take the good with the bad, you live and learn, and you move on. Good post Chef!

Re: I can see it happening to the newbies...

I loved your post Kevin. I think in order to be succesfull in this WOE you need to be proactive when things aren't going well. When I have had stalls, I look to see if I am exercising enough, eating too much cheese, drinking diet soda, etc. Usually, I can find something to adjust to get the ball rolling again. I haven't been bored with the food really because food is no longer my focus. Now that I have more energy, I'm just not that concerned about what I'm putting in my mouth except that it is within the boundaries of this WOE. Although, a friend gave me this great idea that I have enjoyed. Make frittatas using a variety of cheeses, meats spices, herbs and then refrigerate ( and freeze) them so that you have something different to pop into the microwave when you need to eat. They're so easy to make and I usually make a lot of them and freeze them and don't have to cook all the time.

Re: I can see it happening to the newbies...

Bravo Chef Kevin. I thought the post was GREAT!

I think people are confusing "bored" with "inconvenient" at times.

Low carb recipes require a bit of effort, some more effort than others. There are tons of recipes on Lindas sight and others. Some require very little effort, some require a bit more.

We are a nation of convenience. Prepackaged convenience foods you just open and eat or heat up in a microwave.

Nobody wants to take the time to prepare foods anymore.

Although there are grab and go things on this WOL, you still have to make the effort to have them available for you. Hard boil some eggs, wash and cut up veggies and put them in ziplocks in the fridge, buy some pepperoni sticks or beef sticks, etc...all of these things you can grab as a snack or on the go.

This whole lifestyle hinges on planning. You need to take some time out of your busy day to plan your foods for the next day or the next few days or the week. Then you will have success.

So many failures occur through no planning or poor planning.

I'M worth the time and effort it takes for me to succeed...aren't YOU?

That being said, any newbies, please don't be afraid to post questions...we want you all to succeed...really we do.

If I really had written this as a tough love post, I think you would kick me off the board.

                      This wasn't a "don't ask questions" post.

I just saw some patterns happening (many of us who have been here a while saw it too) about common issues.
                      Boredom
                      Cravings
Weighing everyday (or even more often)
                      Atkins bars and shakes

I was trying to show that we have all gone thru it. You need to change your mindset about food and body image. We all want instant results, but it doesn't happen like that.

I really thought it was an encouraging post. About as huggy and touchy-feely as I can be. If I was any more "go get'em" I would be in a pep rally.

Instead, I have people telling me that I am mean. Hmmmm..... I just don't get it. I must have struck a chord or something.

                      Not sure.

So, I'm not sure what I should have said differently. I guess if you were offended by what I wrote you should go to your ignore list and add me.

I dunno, I thought it was good but I am prone to telling myself to suck it up fairly regularly. Different people respond differently to different things. What is important is the way you, Kevin, intended your post to be percieved and that was in a motivational way to knock people out of their gloomies. Hand holding and coddling won't help anyone to lose the weight and it's not motivational, it's enabling. Give me a kick in the pants anyday
                          Just my two cents...

Great post. I still consider myself a newbie I have been only doing this since September and there is still alot that I don't know about atkins. I still have'nt got past the introduction in DANDR. I have been cheating by using this website. There is so much good information on here. I have lost 70lbs so far and I feel great and am not tired during the day. I plan to start reading the book since I am still quasi - induction phase becasue I am a bit confused about the rungs. I think some of the reasons that people fail is because they are not doing atkins properly. This woe works if you stick with it. I plan to read the book move up the ladder and have a better quality of life because of it. I regret that I didnt try atkins sooner in my life.

I don't think your mean at all! and all the recipes I see and try out are quite helpful, I do see a few tough love posts on here every now and then, but you really can't get mad at someone if they are trying to help you out with a problem and they don't listen anyway and wonder why the weight has not come off.

But to me Atkins is more harsher with the carbs than other diets, even when you get to the last phase, only up to 100 carbs?! That's still very little. I guess that's my main beef with it, but it did help me lose weight the first time so I'm still a believer in it, I just wonder what about the first time seemed so much easier than this time.

I did read this article posted here on why low-carb is harder the second go at it, and it explained my situation to the T so that's helped me not quit.

I just wish I could have more than i cup of califlower cause that means more cali-pizza for me!!
