Re: Just had a lecture from my doctor

My doctor said that the Atkins diet was great, I guess it's just a personal opinion with docs instead of basing their assumptions on facts.

Re: Just had a lecture from my doctor

my mother's oncologist lost 40 pounds using Atkins, and he did it in a short period of time - that was 3 years ago and he's kept it off. He is the only person I know who followed Atkins to the letter. A friend in California followed his version of Atkins (Monday through Friday he ate only Atkins approved food - on weekends he ate whatever and drank whatever he wanted) - he lost 50 pounds in a year....

The oncologist told me he felt better the 3rd day he was on the plan and hasn't looked back since. He was the reason I actually started thinking of looking into the Atkins plan. I can't wait for her next appointment so I can tell him how well I'm doing - and thank him for being one of the only open minded doctors on the planet!!

Re: Just had a lecture from my doctor

My doctor is "ok" with my diet but wants to check my blood work regularly. Everyone at work tells me this diet is dangerous. They have me worried. But somehow I can't think of any reason why not eating flour and sugar products could possibly be dangerous.

The people you work with are either idiots or woefully misinformed. I had the same thing happen to me at my job and when I asked them why they thought it was dangerous, they told me that it was because I had to stop eating fruits and vegetables. When I showed them the induction criteria, many of them had the same response of "Oh, I didn't know that!" A few told me it was still dangerous because Dr. Soandso told them it was dangerous but when pressed, they couldn't tell me why. Mmmmm...I see. Thank you Mr. Knowitall! Next time I need to know nothing, I'll ask you first. Go with the plan and all will be well!

My doc recommended low-glycemic - not too far off from Atkins really. I did that for awhile and then moved on to Atkins on my own.

Re: Just had a lecture from my doctor

I think when the low carb craze was going on a couple years ago people were doing it without reading the book, so they didn't know you were supposed to eat your leafy greens, all they ate were eggs and meat, I think that that is the dangerous part everyone thinks of.
