Yeah, for me it's like looking into a crystal ball to view 16-year old me. I wish her the best, but this is why people think Atkins doesn't work. They say they are doing the diet when they have no idea about the lifestyle.
Start date: 03/14/09 Goal #1 - 260 - Met 04/12/09! Goal #4 - 230 - Met 08/03/09! Goal #2 - 250 - Met 05/22/09! Goal #5 - 220 - Met 01/29/10 FINALLY! Goal #3 - 240 - Met 06/20/09! Goal #6 - 210
a friend of mine wanted to do atkins with me a few years back when i lost weight the first time, but when she found out she couldn't eat sugar, she quit. because it was 'too hard' because she couldnt get what she wanted. i was like well no @#$@ you can't eat chocolate cake for breakfast, then whine that you don't lose weight. *sigh* it was like talking to someone who speaks chinese.
then another friend a few years later constantly tried to derail me. she didnt have the willpower to do it, so she didn't want me to succeed either. she constantly got on my case for not eating what she was eating. "c'mon i made this (insert sugar filled food) for both of us!" or we'd go out to eat after work, and she'd complain that i was messing up our tradition of going out. i was still there, but i wasn't eating the breaded/fried crap she was, so apparently my just being there with her wasn't good enough.
You are in the wrong place if you are looking for someone to justify your cheats. People here will tell you how to correctly do the Atkins diet. This diet works for alot of people, but if you want to modify it, you will get little support here. Not because we are die0hard about this, its just that we know that if you follow the book it is difficult to fail. However when you start adding cheat days or increasing your carb intake too quickly, you will prbably get discouraged and say that the Atkins diet DOES NOT work. Stick with the book and who knows, if you are like me, you may get lucky and be able to eat around 100 carbs a day and maintain your weight. I hope that is the case, I would check out the recipe page though for something to satisfy your sweet tooth. I recomend the low carb cheesecake.

Maintenance
Started July of 2008.
Hit my original goal of 200 in 2 months.
Hit my altered goal of 180 in 4 months.
My max weight goal is 175 and Im trying to keep between 165 to 170.
its frustrating to hear people say they are sick of the food on atkins, when over in the food forums there's thousands of amazing things to eat, a lot of it brand new to me, totally tasty, and good for you! its fun to try the new stuff. my bf asked me once 'dont you get bored eating the same things every day?' but i dont eat the same things every day, as my journal confirms. while he is the ultimate picky eater, and eats maybe 5 things, over and over, every day. its funny how peoples perspectives change between eating the same things because they want to, and eating the same things because someone told them they should. its just good old fashioned insolence lol

Well last night I gave in and had some Junk but it felt wired doing this . When I finished off 2 rice crispy treats I asked myself " And why is junk not tasty to me " ? Im not kidding at all ! My tastes buds where like your eating paper sugar * that's what it tasted like * But I felt full after . I don't know what happened but I never felt so hungry last night and I have a problem with watching my fat and calorie intake but completely fell out ! Im going to eat zero carbs today but when my sweet tooth kicks in I think I will not know what to do because I can only limit my carbs to 30 -
I know il never give up coffie thats a no ! Can't do it . I just use sugar free pack splenda and (half caffeine) coffee - I love coffee way way to much * takes a sip * yummy
Cheese cake sounds good and I looked for it but they all have over 30 carbs ..
Defected - you are beginning the process of some serious dieting disorders. If you don't want to give up junk food, I suggest going to weight watchers where they have a point system and you can eat any food you want within their system. I just don't think this is for you. Good luck.

People on here are so testy ! Second Im not in the process of Dieting disorders I just want to lose 20 pounds and I workout daily ( I don't drink or smoke and I keep away from heavy fatty foods ) . I just want to get my weight down quickly its simple as that .
Second im asking questions and searching for ideas because I have a deadly sweet tooth and must be quenched ! Sugar free seems like a healthy treat .
When I say junk I mean sugar free junk and only here and there not every minute of the day .
( in 12 days I have lost 5 pounds so far and 20 to go )
How is sugar free Junk food when Atkins has treats that are beyond what I would eat - So sugar free Jello pudding is junk but Atkins treats and cheesecakes are not ?
I get the diet but some things on it don't qualify for heathy choices - I will keep studying Atkins but I will make it my own ! Biology works different with different tactics
People here are honest. They're telling you things that you may not want to hear.
I HAD a killer sweet tooth too. I could polish off a whole cheesecake in one sitting and still go back for ice cream. Since doing Atkins properly, keeping under 20g. of carbs per day and eating whole foods, I dont have that sweet tooth anymore and Im only a week into this. Im thrilled that I no longer have those cravings and I know I have Atkins to thank for that.
The truth is, if you still want to eat the junk food, even if it's sugar free then this may not be the plan for you. I started Atkins because I no longer wanted to eat that and I no longer wanted to be a slave to my carb cravings.

Dr. Atkins recommends eating whole foods and staying away from processed foods - sugar free or not. Atkins treats sold under the Atkins name are really a marketing gimmick in my opinion. After Dr. Atkins passed away, the products changed - I wouldnt trust eating them now. Anyone doing Atkins from 2002 or before holds true to not eating Atkins treats, especially during Induction.

Yeah but here's the thing Im still in the area of my carbs even after a jello treat ! So what harm is that ? Really I mean I workout for 1 hour 10 mins a day -- so why should I feel guilty for enjoying a simple treat each day and staying under my carb intake ?
Defeated, it's not that we're testy, exactly... it's just that this board is based on the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. It gets frustrating to answer questions that are absolutely against the plan... especially when all of this is spelled out word for word in the book.
There are tons of low carbs boards on the internet... if you are not interested in following Atkins, surely you can understand how we can come off as testy on a board dedicated to Atkins. I will be the first one to admit that following Atkins takes a great deal of commitment and patience. If you're looking at Atkins as just a way to lose weight, and plan on abandoning the plan as soon as you hit goal, I can promise you, you are quite likely to regain the weight. As someone who has been in Maintenance since November 2007, I can tell you that Maintenance is more difficult than dropping the weight.
You wrote: "Im going to eat zero carbs today but when my sweet tooth kicks in I think I will not know what to do because I can only limit my carbs to 30"
Zero carbs is NOT Atkins... and the majority of the carbs that we do eat, should come primarily from vegetables. I just have one favor to ask of you... please don't tell anyone that you are doing Atkins if you're not. There are already so many misconceptions out there about Atkins... when a person gets sick from eating zero carbs, Atkins is blamed... when a person puts all of their weight back on because they go back to eating junk after reaching goal, it is said that Atkins "didn't work".
The truth of the matter is, you get out of Atkins, exactly what you put into it. I grow weary of defending my way of eating to those who think it's unhealthy or doesn't work, when the truth of the matter is, that Atkins is extremely healthy and effective when done by the book.
